  • This paper presents a lumped model to predict crosstalk characteristics of thermally driven inkjet print heads. Using the lumped R-C model, heating characteristics of the head are predicted to be in agreement with IR temperature measurements. The inter-channel crosstalk is simulated using the lumped R-L network. The values of viscous flow resistance, R and flow inertance, L of connecting channels are adjusted to accord with the 3-D numerical simulation results of three adjacent jets. The crosstalk behaviors of a back shooter head as well as a top shooter head have been investigated. Predictions of the proposed lumped model on the meniscus oscillations are consistent with numerical simulation results. Comparison of the lumped model with experimental results identifies that abnormal two-drop ejection phenomena are related to the increased meniscus oscillations because of the more severe crosstalk effects at higher printing speeds. The degree of crosstalk has been quantified using cross-correlations between neighboring channels and a critical channel dimension for acceptable crosstalk has been proposed and validated with the numerical simulations. Our model can be used as a design tool for a better design of thermal inkjet print heads to minimize crosstalk effects.

  • A tunable wavelength filter was proposed and demonstrated by using the UV nanoimprint technique. It consists of a Bragg grating in polymer waveguides and a heating electrode. The manufacturing of the grating was substantially simplified with the introduction of a smart imprint stamp containing a waveguide pattern integrated with the grating pattern. The center wavelength of the filter was successfully tuned by taking advantage of the thermooptic effect in polymers, which was induced by supplying electrical power to the electrode. For the fabricated device, a transmission dip of ${\~}$15 dB and a 3-dB bandwidth of 0.8 nm were obtained at the Bragg wavelength of ${\~}$l560 nm. The achieved thermooptic tuning efficiency was ${\~}$0.28 nm/mW, while the center wavelength was shifted from 1560 nm to 1558 nm with the electrical power consumption of 7 mW.

  • Depending on point of view, a service can be defined as interactions between customers and service providers or service delivery processes or customer's experiences. To develop and design a new service, the most of approaches presented in the previous researches represent a service mainly by the interactive activities or functions between customers and providers. The critical features of services which differentiate services from physical products are the inseparability that production and consumption occur at the same time and the heterogeneity that each customer ask their requirements to providers. To reflect the characteristics on the service model, we have to include contextual features in the service model. For the purpose, we define a service as the process of solving the customer's problems and a service is structured into three components: contacts, informations, and activities. We suggest the job mapping diagram to model a service process by the three components and then apply it to a hotel service process and compare the result with it of a blueprint.

  • The purpose of this study was to manufacture a wrist brace using a computerized tomography system, clinical design software (MediACE 3D Program), and 3D printer. After acquiring the Dicom file of the upper limb with a computed tomography, the wrist brace was designed using the MediACE 3D Program to create a "stereolithography" file. The designed wrist brace was printed using a 3D printer. To verify the effectiveness of wrist assistive device manufactured by 3D printing technology, the stress distribution of the pressure and orthosis applied to bone and skin is represented by finite element analysis. It is expected that the wrist brace can be manufactured by reinforcing the part where the damage caused by pressure and breakage of the brace frequently occurs with the result of finite element analysis when producing the wrist brace.

  • In this paper, small sized half-wavelength circular loop antenna which attached beneath a visor of helmet is designed and fabricated at the resonant frequency of 449MHz. To reduce the size of the antenna, double series-shorted stubs are inserted inside the loop for practical use of a vacant space of loop inside. Also, It is designed for the printed type to install the helmet easily. The size of antenna on helmet is reduced to 87.75%(diameter : 70mm, height :.36mm) compare with general type antenna(diameter : 200mm height 101mm). The return loss, -10dB bandwidth and gain are -13.2dB, 17.6MHz(3.9%), and -1.78dBd. And, radiation pattern is omni-directional pattern at H-plane. Therefore, it can be seen that the half-wavelength circular loop antenna using double series-shorted stubs is proper structure for the miniaturization and the installed antenna of the helmet.

  • In this study, basic research was conducted to provide guidelines for selecting printers and materials suitable for each application case by analyzing 3D printing method and surface characteristics of materials suitable for microfluidic system. We have studied the surface characteristics according to the materials for the two typical printing methods: The most commonly used method of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) printing and the relatively high resolution method of Stereolithography (SLA) printing. The FDM prints exhibited hydrophilic properties before post - treatment, regardless of the material, but showed hydrophobic properties after post - treatment with acetone vapor. It was confirmed by the observation of surface roughness using SEM that the change of the contact angle was due to the removal of the surface structure by post-treatment. SLA prints exhibited hydrophilic properties compared to FDM prints, but they were experimentally confirmed to be capable of surface modification using hydrophobic coatings. It was confirmed that it is impossible to make a transparent specimen in the FDM method. However, sufficient transparency is secured in the case of the SLA method. It is also confirmed that the electroporation chip of the digital electroporation system based on the droplet contact charging phenomenon was fabricated by the SLA method and the direct application to the microfluidic system by demonstrating the electroporation successfully.

  • 3D printers are widely used to verify the designs in the early stage of product development, and are required to have short build time. However, the build time is still too long for a quick design review for engineers. This research focuses on how to split the prototype in order to reduce the build time and improve surface roughness. In order to verify the feasibility of prototype splitting, the build time and the roughness have been experimentally measured for various parts and build orientations. Based on the experimental results an expert system was developed for splitting the original CAD mod el by using an efficient splitting method. It can recommend a splitting plane based on build time, surface roughness and the number of divided parts. It is shown that the model splitting reduces the build time significantly and improves surface quality wit bout rough surfaces where the support was removed.
