  • In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, everything is data-centric. The type and amount of data may be central, and new data may be required in special circumstances. As 3D printers are used in various fields, there are fields that are newly challenged. In particular, in the medical field, new attempts that have not been considered before are taking place. This paper is a study to enable research in fields that require physical properties of the human body. In the meantime, research using human organs has mainly used the materials made of silicon. We measure the physical properties of the human body from cadavers, apply these characteristics to develop new materials, and develop artificial organs with 3D printers. Using the artificial organs made in this way, you can practice surgery with a robot that removes kidney stones. In this paper, we would like to introduce a series of research processes to develop advanced materials similar to human organs.

  • The Skinned Multi-Person Linear Model (SMPL) is the most widely used parametric 3D Human Model optimized and learned from CAESAR, a 3D human scanned database created with measurements from 3,800 people living in United States in the 1990s. We point out the lack of racial diversity of body types in SMPL and propose K-SMPL that better represents Korean 3D body shapes. To this end, we develop a fitting algorithm to estimate 2,773 Korean 3D body shapes from Korean body measurement data. By conducting principle component analysis to the estimated Korean body shapes, we construct K-SMPL model that can generate various Korean body shape in 3D. K-SMPL model allows to improve the fitting accuracy over SMPL with respect to the Korean body measurement data. K-SMPL model can be widely used for avatar generation and human shape fitting for Korean.

  • The purpose of this study was to offer the basis contributes to extract the standardized body data from 3D body measuring for women aged 60 and older. The WB4 of Cyberware was used, and the measuring program of 3D scanning data was 3DM. This study was focused to verify the reliability of 3D data and to offer the effective utilization of 3D measuring on the research for elderly women■s body. Subjects were 19 women aged 60 and older. And three women in late twenties and three dressforms for women were comparing subjects to analyze the signiscant difference by age or human body variable making error. First, 3D scanning was executed twice on each subject, but any significant difference was not appear between two scanning data. So we certifed we could get the consistent and reliable data from the 3D scanner used in this study. Second, the reliability of 3D measuring data was analyzed, and the error range which meant the difference between 3D data and traditional measuring data was analyzed. In elderly women, the significant difference between two data was appeared in 19 body parts. The 7 of 19 were concerned with armpit point. In young women, three significant difference were appeared, and in dressforms, any significant difference was not certified. From these results, we could certify that age or human body variable produced the difference between two data. Third, the data of elderly women from three measuring methods, 3D measuring, traditional measuring, and measuring on 2D photographs were compared. From the result, we found that the 3D measuring data was quite reliable for most body parts excluding some width parts. But in elderly women, there were some limitation to extract reliable data because of their unique body characteristics. In order to be a role of the effective measuring method, the 3D measuring protocol reflected the body characteristics of each age or gender had to be prepared.

  • In this study, we propose a method to improve the classification accuracy of body mass index (BMI) estimation techniques based on three-dimensional gait data. In previous studies on BMI estimation techniques, the classification accuracy was only about 60%. In this study, we identify the reasons for the low BMI classification accuracy. According to our analysis, the reason is the use of the undersampling technique to address the class imbalance problem in the gait dataset. We propose applying oversampling instead of undersampling to solve the class imbalance issue. We also demonstrate the usefulness of anthropometric and spatiotemporal features in gait data-based BMI estimation techniques. Previous studies evaluated the usefulness of anthropometric and spatiotemporal features in the presence of undersampling techniques and reported that their combined use leads to lower BMI estimation performance than when using either feature alone. However, our results show that using both features together and applying an oversampling technique achieves state-of-the-art performance with 92.92% accuracy in the BMI estimation problem.

  • With the recent aging age, people's interest in healthy life is increasing. People are causing adult diseases or an increasing number of obese populations due to poor lifestyles, eating habits, and poor physical activity. Accordingly, skin beauty research is being conducted using medical information in the information and communication field. Existing systems have not been able to provide smooth information because they are not expressed in combination with various related measurement items. The system proposed in this paper scans the user's body shape using a 3D scanner and a skin care device, calculates the BMI (Body Mass Index) index using 3D image data, and allows you to view the collected data at a glance. Provide a service system. This will provide the user with the content managed by comparing and providing the continuous body change data. It is expected to be widely used in various U-health and beauty fields.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental information for standardization of 3D body measurement. This research analyzes errors occurring in the process of extracting body size from 3D body scan data. First, as a result of analyzing basic state of the 3D body scanner's calibration, the point number of each section was almost the same, while the right and left as well as the front and back coordinates of the center of gravity are not, showing unstable data. Nevertheless, the latter does not influence on the size of cylinder such as width and circumference. Next, we analyzed point coordinates variations of scan data on a mannequin nude by life casting. The result was great deflection in case of complicated or horizontal sections including the reference point beyond proper distance from centers of four cameras. In case of the mannequin's size, accuracy proves comparatively high in that measurement errors in height, width, depth, and length dimension occurred all within allowable errors, only except chest depth, while there were a lot of measurement errors in a circumference dimension. Secondly, analysis of accuracy of automatic extraction identification program algorithm presented that a semi-automatic measurement program is better than an automatic measurement program. While both of them ate very acute in parts related to crotch, they are not in armpit related parts. Therefore, in extracting of human body size from 3D scan data, what really matters seems to parts related to armpits.

  • The KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) began to produce the Korean human information called Visible Korean and Digital Korean since 2000 because there was no human information in Korea which could represent the physical characteristics of Korean human body. The Visible Korean consists of CT, MR, sectioned and segmented images of Korean human body. We obtained the serially sectioned images by grinding the Korean cadaver in horizontal direction and segmented these images by outlining the inner organs of human. We have produced the sectioned images of Korean male whole body, male head, and female pelvis in2008. The segmentation and 3D reconstruction of these images are now in proceeding. The Digital Korean consists of CT images of about 100 Korean cadavers. These CT images were segmented by individual bone, reconstructed to produce the 3D bone models and the skin surface model was also added. The mechanical properties of individual bones were obtained by measuring the property of individual bone sample. We have distributed these Korean human informations to users in domestic and abroad. About 70 institutes in domestic, and 20 institutes in abroad have used our data in research use and nearly 160 proceedings and articles were published since 2001. We think these human informations have a role of medical information infrastructure that could be used in the field of medical education, biomechanics, virtual reality etc.
