  • 3-Dimensional panel method is now developed to the level that one can calculate the lift of a three dimensional body with the same accuracy of wind tunnel test and some current codes can consider the boundary layer effects due to the viscosity and unsteady motion in the calculation of lift. This paper is also aimed to develop these kinds of computing programs, and as a beginning, the authors restricted the problems to the steady potential flow cases. The calculation of 3-Dimensional body, wing and tandem wing carried out, using source panel and vortex ring panel. Finally, the interactions between 3-Dimension symmetric body and a wing are also calculated.

  • Currently, the lack of equipments for the medical practice and education made it impossible for the people in medical institution to carry out suitable experiments for observing human bodies. In this paper, the authors embodied three dimensional images and moving pictures for the human skeletal structure, digestive organs, cardiovascular system and their processes over the internet framework. The three dimensional images and moving picture made it possible for the general people as well as the specialists to observe and obtain informations with regard to the human body. Especially, the authors realized a framework for visualizing the human bodies in three dimensional images, via which a detailed and realistic architecture for the human body and its organs can be obtained. The system developed in this paper can be used in the practice and education of the people engaged in medical fields.

  • As a method for modeling a three-dimensional object, there are a method using a 3D scanner, a method using a motion capture system, and a method using a Kinect system. Through this method, a portion that is not captured due to occlusion occurs in the process of creating a three-dimensional object. In order to implement a perfect three-dimensional object, it is necessary to arbitrarily fill the obscured part. There is a technique to fill the unexposed part by various image processing methods. In this study, we propose a method using GANs, which is the latest trend of unsupervised machine learning, as a method for more natural hole-filling.

  • A 74-year-old female patient, who underwent surgery for a left distal tibiofibular fracture 40 years earlier, visited the hospital with an ankle varus deformity due to malunion. The patient complained of discomfort while walking due to the ankle and hindfoot varus deformity but did not complain of ankle pain. Therefore, correction using supramalleolar osteotomy was planned, and through virtual surgical simulation, it was predicted that a correction angle of 24° and an osteotomy gap open of 12 mm would be necessary. An osteotomy guide and an osteotomy gap block were made using three-dimensional (3D) printing to perform the osteotomy and correct the deformity according to the predicted goal. One year after surgery, it was observed that the ankle varus was corrected according to the surgical simulation, and the patient was able to walk comfortably. Thus, for correction of deformity, virtual surgical simulation and a 3D-printed osteotomy guide can be used to predict the target value for correction. This is useful for increasing the accuracy of correction of the deformity.

  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of impulse turbine for owe type wave energy conversion device. Numerical analysis was performed using a commercially-available software FLUENT. This parametric study includes the variation of the setting angle of guide vane. Since parametric study at various flaw coefficients requires tremendous amounts of computing time, two-dimensional cascade flaw approximation was employed to find out optimum principal particulars in rather simple manner. Full three-dimensional calculation was also performed for several cases to confirm the validity of two-dimensional approach. Results were compared to other experimental data, for instance Setoguchi et al (2001)'s extensive set of data, and found to be well demonstrating the usefulness of 2-D analysis. Advantages and disadvantages of each method were also evaluated.

  • The success of a three-dimensional blockbuster movie, AVARTA, brought an public attention on the expansion of three-dimensional computer applications, and it allows experts predict further hardware technology developments to support the such applications. Futhermore, an internet based infra structure and three-dimensional structure, third generation network community, advanced computer networks have influenced advancement in computer technology within the 3D game industry and the spread of 2D computer animation technologies. This advancement of computer technologies allow the industry to overcome a limitation of generating cultural design contexts existed within 2D network community. However, despite of the expansion of 2D and 3D computer technologies, a limitation of analysing designers' intentions on morphology of digital contents and user interface still exists. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze (1) present conditions of the 3D industry and (2) protocols of designers' cognitive design processes based on their design communication, contents, and tools. Analysis was conducted based on literature reviews and case precedent analyses. For the analysis, a 2D Avarta sketch character was designed and then applied into a 3D game system. Observations how designers solve cultural problem within the structure via Avarta were conducted. Outcomes were then coded for further analysis.

  • Two and Three dimensional dynamic adaptation code is developed for transient computations. This code involves mesh refinement and coarsening to either add points in high gradient regions of flow or remove points where they are not needed, for high spatial accuracy. Temporary cell algorithm is used to maintain the original grid quality. To show the assessment of the accuracy and efficiency, two dimensional study and unsteady flows are computed. Also, three dimensional steady computations are made to assess the refinement using temporary cell algorithm. The result shows the high spatial accuracy primarily in discontinuity regions in steady and unsteady computation.

  • Time history analysis is usually performed to characterize the nonlinear seismic behavior of a spent fuel storage rack(SFSR). In the past, the seismic analyses of the SFSR were performed with two-dimensional planar models, which could not account for torsional response and simultaneous multi-directional seismic input In this study, three-dimensional seismic analysis methodology is developed for the single SFSR using the ANSYS code. The 3D- Model can be used to determine the nonlinear behavior of the rack, i.e., sliding, uplifting, and impact evaluation between the fuel assembly and rack, and rack and the pool wall, This paper also reviews the 3-D modeling of the SFSR and the adequacy of the ANSYS for the seismic analysis. AS a result of the adquacy study, the method of ANSYS transient analysis with acceleration time history is suitable for the seismic analysis of highly nonlinear structure such as an SFSR but it isn't appropriate to use displacement time history of seismic input.

  • We demonstrated transmission direct phase-measuring deflectometry (DPMD) with a specular phase object having discontinuous surfaces by using two displays and a two-dimensional array detector for display and by recording the distorted fringe patterns. Three-dimensional (3D) information was obtained by calculating the height map directly from the phase information. We developed a mathematical model of the phase-height relationship in transmission DPMD. Unlike normal transmission deflectometry, this method supports height measurement directly from the phase. Compared with other 3D measurement techniques such as interferometry, this method has the advantages of being inexpensive and easy to implement.

  • Recognition of three-dimensional objects with convexities and concavities is a hard and challenging problem. This paper presents a feature extraction method out of three-dimensional objects for the purpose of classification. This new method not only provides invariance to scale, translation, and rotation $R^3$ but also distinguishes any three-dimensional model objects with concavities and convexities by measuring a relative similarity in the information space where a set of characteristics features of objects is mapped.
