Numerical Study on Unified Seakeeping and Maneuvering of a Russian Trawler in Wind and Waves

The maneuvering performance of a ship on the actual sea is very different from that in calm water due to wave-induced motion. Enhancement of a ship's maneuverability in waves at the design stage is an important way to ensure that the ship navigates safely. This paper focuses on the maneuvering prediction of a Russian trawler in wind and irregular waves. First, a unified seakeeping and maneuvering analysis of a Russian trawler is proposed. The hydrodynamic forces acting on the hull in calm water were estimated using empirical formulas based on a database containing information on several fishing vessels. A simulation of the standard maneuvering of the Russian trawler was conducted in calm water, which was checked using the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards for ship maneuvering. Second, a unified model of seakeeping and maneuvering that considers the effect of wind and waves is proposed. The wave forces were estimated by a three-dimensional (3D) panel program (ANSYS-AQWA) and used as a database when simulating the ship maneuvering in wind and irregular waves. The wind forces and moments acting on the Russian trawler are estimated using empirical formulas based on a database of wind-tunnel test results. Third, standard maneuvering of a Russian trawler was conducted in various directions under wind and irregular wave conditions. Finally, the influence of wind and wave directions on the drifting distance and drifting angle of the ship as it turns in a circle was found. North wind has a dominant influence on the turning trajectory of the trawler.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether the accuracy and internal porosity of removable partial denture frameworks differ depending on the build direction in the selective laser melting method. Methods: A partially edentulous maxillary study model was scanned, and the anterior-posterior palatal bar was then digitally designed. The angles formed between the z-axis and the path of the insertion and removal were divided into five groups: -60°, -30°, 0°, 30°, and 60°. For each group, three removable partial denture metal frameworks were fabricated and used as specimens. The inner surface of each sample was scanned and superimposed on the design file to obtain the root mean square (RMS) value, and the average RMS value of each group was measured. One sample was randomly selected from each group, and the equivalent diameter and sphericity of the pores were analyzed using industrial X-ray three-dimensional computed tomography. To compare statistical differences between groups, the Kruskal-Wallis test of SPSS Statistics ver. 27.0 (IBM) was used (α=0.05). Results: The average RMS values of the whole inner surface accuracy of the specimens were in the order of -60°<0°<-30°<30°<60° (p<0.05). The equivalent diameter and sphericity of internal pores were significantly different among groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: The build orientation of the selective laser melting method influences the accuracy and internal porosity of removable partial denture frameworks.
With increasing interest, there have been studies on LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging)-based DEM(Digital Elevation Model) to acquire three dimensional topographic information. For producing LiDAR DEM with better accuracy, Filtering process is crucial, where only surface reflected LiDAR points are left to construct DEM while non-surface reflected LiDAR points need to be removed from the raw LiDAR data. In particular, the changes of input values for filtering algorithm-constructing parameters are supposed to produce different products. Therefore, this study is aimed to contribute to better understanding the effects of the changes of the levels of GroundFilter Algrothm's Mean parameter(GFmn) embedded in FUSION software on the accuracy of the LiDAR DEM products, using LiDAR data collected for Hwacheon, Yangju, Gyeongsan and Jangheung watershed experimental area. The effect of GFmn level changes on the products' accuracy is estimated by measuring and comparing the residuals between the elevations at the same locations of a field and different GFmn level-produced LiDAR DEM sample points. In order to test whether there are any differences among the five GFmn levels; 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, One-way ANOVA is conducted. In result of One-way ANOVA test, it is found that the change in GFmn level significantly affects the accuracy (F-value: 4.915, p<0.01). After finding significance of the GFmn level effect, Tukey HSD test is also conducted as a Post hoc test for grouping levels by the significant differences. In result, GFmn levels are divided into two subsets ('7, 5, 9, 3' vs. '1'). From the observation of the residuals of each individual level, it is possible to say that LiDAR DEM is generated most accurately when GFmn is given as 7. Through this study, the most desirable parameter value can be suggested to produce filtered LiDAR DEM data which can provide the most accurate elevation information.

The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The purpose of this study is to analyze the astronomical thinking level of elementary, middle, and high school students using ordered multiple choice items. For this purpose, we constructed a questionnaire comprising three items about spatial thinking and system thinking. This survey was conducted and applied to 1,066 students in the 5th grade, 8th grade, and 11th grade in 12 schools located in Gangwon Province. The collected student response data were analyzed by applying inferential statistics of classical test theory and Rasch model. The results of the analysis were as follows; First, in the level of spatial thinking, students were able to grasp the spatial location and orientation of the celestial body, but were not able to convert the celestial motion of two-dimensional plane into three-dimensional plane, and it was revealed that there is no statistically significant difference in the spatial thinking of students among grade levels. Second, in the level of system thinking, students were able to identify the components and relationship between components of the celestial motion system, but could not identify the patterns of the system, and it was revealed that there was statistically significant difference among the system thinking of students in different grade levels, unlike in spatial thinking. Third, the astronomical thinking expressed in certain context (content) was very similar regardless of grade level, Through this, we could confirm the context-dependency or content-dependency of the astronomical thinking of students. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data for exploring ways to enhance astronomical thinking level in school science classes.
In this study, we suggest a system to build the monitoring model for compressed natural gas (CNG) stations, operated in only non-stationary modes, and perform the real-time monitoring and the abnormality diagnosis using principal component analysis (PCA) that is suitable for processing large amounts of multi-dimensional data among multivariate statistical analysis methods. We build the model by the calculation of the new characteristic variables, called as the major components, finding the factors representing the trend of process operation, or a combination of variables among 7 pressure sensor data and 5 temperature sensor data collected from a CNG station at every second. The real-time monitoring is performed reflecting the data of process operation measured in real-time against the built model. As a result of conducting the test of monitoring in order to improve the accuracy of the system and verification, all data in the normal operation were distinguished as normal. The cause of abnormality could be refined, when abnormality was detected successfully, by tracking the variables out of the score plot.
The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of nitrate removal by conducting the column test in order to see the performance of surfactant modified zeolite (SMZ) as a permeable reactive barrier material. The prediction of nitrate removal was tested using the one-dimensional advective-dispersive model fitted to the experimental breakthrough curve. A methodology for scaling up to in-situ permeable reactive barrier was also proposed. The breakthrough of nitrate in the column packed with SMZ was well predicted using linear equilibrium adsorption model. The breakthrough time and half-life obtained by breakthrough experiment with variation of flowrates were decreased with the increase of flowrates. When 10㎥/day of groundwater containing the 50 mg/l of nitrate is to be treated to satisfy the potable water quality criteria (10 mg/l) by SMZ reactive barrier, 300 tons of SMZ and about 6 years of breakthrough time will be required, suggesting that 165 million wons are needed as barrier material expenses in each 6 years besides the initial design and construction expenses and the minimal monitoring and maintenance expenses.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of train-induced end rotation of simple supported track girder on the performance of a direct fixation track system (DFTS) in Yeongjong grand bridge. In this study, the influences of deflection of a DFTS and track girder on dynamic rail-track girder interaction forces for the track girder ends currently employed in airport express lines were assessed by performing field tests using actual vehicles running along the service lines. Therefore, the dynamic displacement of rail and track girder and the fastener stress on the center and ends sections of DFTS were measured for two different trains (AREX and KTX) running in Yeongjong grand bridge. A three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) model using the time-history function based on the design wheel load was used to predict the train-induced track and track girder displacement, and the FEA and field test results were compared. The analytical results reproduced the experimental results well within about 3-7% difference in the values. Therefore, the FEA model of DFTS on track girder is considered to provide sufficiently reliable FEA results in the investigation of the behavior of DFTS. Using the analytical and experimental results, the influence of train-induced end rotation of simple supported track girder on the interaction behavior of rail and track girder installed on a simple supported track girder ends, i.e., upward displacement of rail-track girder and the fastener stress, was investigated. It was found that the train-induced end rotation effect of track girder was not significantly affected by the upward displacement of rails and the fastener stresses of track girder ends. Further, the interaction behavior of rail and track girder were similar to or less than that of the general railway bridge deck ends, nevertheless the vertical displacement of track was higher than that of conventional DFTS on the general railway bridge. From the results, the dynamic responses of the DFTS on track girder ends were not significantly affected by the safety and stability of DFTS ends.
