  • 3D printing technology is attracting increasing attention as a key technology of the fourth industrial revolution that can change the production paradigm of existing industries. The introduction of construction 3D printing technology has been slower than other industries because of the characteristics of the construction field. On the other hand construction automation using 3D printing is required to reduce the production population, as well as improve productivity and safety. In this study, a construction 3D printing work breakdown structure and link method to a standard estimation system were developed as a preliminary preparation for introducing 3D printing to construction. Based on expert consultation on construction and 3D printing, a hypothetical scenario was developed based on existing construction 3D printing technology. According to the scenario, 16 kinds of works required for 3D printing construction work were derived. The existing work breakdown structure and standard estimation system were analyzed, and the 3D printing work was linked. 3D printing works that were the same as the existing breakdown structure were found, and non-existent works were added to the similar breakdown structure. These results are expected to be helpful for future 3D printing construction management and cost estimation. The actual standard estimation system through 3D printing work will need to be calculated.

  • In this paper, a small and effective attitude estimation system for a humanoid robot was developed. Four small inertial sensors were packed and used for inertial measurements(3D accelerometer and three 1D gyroscopes.) An effective 3D pose estimation algorithm for low cost DSP using an extended Kalman filter was developed and evaluated. The 3D pose estimation algorithm has a very simple structure composed by 3 modules of a linear acceleration estimator, an external acceleration detector and an pseudo-accelerometer output estimator. The algorithm also has an effective switching structure based on probability and simple feedback loop for the extended Kalman filter. A special test equipment using linear motor for the testing of the 3D pose sensor was developed and the experimental results showed its very fast convergence to real values and effective responses. Popular DSP of TMS320F2812 was used to calculate robot's 3D attitude and translated acceleration, and the whole system were packed in a small size for humanoids robots. The output of the 3D sensors(pitch, roll, 3D linear acceleration, and 3D angular rate) can be transmitted to a humanoid robot at 200Hz frequency.

  • Estimation of 3-D objects from 2-D images is inherently performed by either motion or scene features methods as it has been described in different literatures. Structure from motion as a method employed in this study uses calibrated camera and reconstructed 3-D points from the structure of the scene for reliable and precise estimates. In this study we construct 3-D shapes using color pixels and reconstructed 3-D points to determine observable differences for the constructed 3-D images. The estimation using reconstructed 3-D points indicates that the sphere is recovered by the use of scale factor due to its known size while the one obtained by using color pixels has look similar to the former but different in the scales of the axes.

  • According to "structure-conduct-performance" paradigm in IO, market structure (concentration) determines conduct (R&D investments), and conduct yields market performance (ratio of price to marginal cost). Previous empirical studies on Schumpeter Mark I, II assumed that the explanatory variable (market structure) and the disturbance are uncorrelated in the R&D equation. In this situation, Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimates of the structural parameters are inconsistent, because the endogeneous variables (R&D and market structure) can be determined simultaneously. So, in this study, full information (or system methods) estimation is used to test Schumpeter hypothesis since joint estimation can as well bring efficiency gains in the seemingly uncorrelated regressions (SUR) setting.

  • This paper presents a new sensor system, CALOS, for motion estimation and 3D reconstruction. The 2D laser sensor provides accurate depth information of a plane, not the whole 3D structure. On the contrary, the CCD cameras provide the projected image of whole 3D scene, not the depth of the scene. To overcome the limitations, we combine these two types of sensors, the laser sensor and the CCD cameras. We develop a motion estimation scheme appropriate for this sensor system. In the proposed scheme, the motion between two frames is estimated by using three points among the scan data and their corresponding image points, and refined by non-linear optimization. We validate the accuracy of the proposed method by 3D reconstruction using real images. The results show that the proposed system can be a practical solution for motion estimation as well as for 3D reconstruction.

  • 3D bridge information models for a concrete box-girder bridge were built and a typical application example for the estimation linked with the 3D models was proposed. 3D geometry objects with PBS (product breakdown structure) were constructed using standard classification codes and 2D drawings. Information on the amount of materials according to the classification codes was utilized for the estimation system. A process for the estimation of concrete and rebars was developed and verified through the pilot test. Optimization of rebar fabrication was suggested as an additional function and was utilized for the cost reduction and standard fabrication.

  • In this study, a numerical estimation method for 3D underwater radiated noise pattern using hull vibration and total acoustic power of the vibrating structure in the far-field is proposed. The underwater radiated noise pattern is known to be predicted using the vibration signals and radiation efficiency of each surface patch. But it is very difficult to know radiation efficiency of each surface patch which is one of important factors to calculate the 3D underwater radiated noise pattern. Instead of using radiation efficiency of each patch, the underwater radiated noise level is modified with the total acoustic power of the vibrating structure. The suggested estimation method for underwater radiated noise pattern is discussed with numerical model.

  • Construction automation is needed to improve construction productivity. 3D printing is a key technology of the 4th industrial revolution, and when applied to the construction field, the ripple effect is very large. In this paper, we propose a 3D printing method that can predict the 3D printing process and estimate the construction duration for each process. Through literature review and expert consultation, eight 3D printing activities for structure work were derived. Construction duration and cost estimation for each activity will be needed in the future research.

  • An algorithm is presented for estimating the 3-D location (i.e., azimuth angle, elevation angle, and range) of multiple sources with a uniform circular array (UCA) consisting of an even number of sensors. Recently the rank reduction (RARE) algorithm for partly-calibrated sensor arrays was developed. This algorithm is applicable to sensor arrays consisting of several identically oriented and calibrated linear subarrays. Assuming that a UCA consists of M sensors, it can be divided into M/2 identical linear subarrays composed of two facing sensors. Based on the structure of the subarrays, the steering vectors are decomposed into two parts: range-independent 2-D direction-of-arrival (DOA) parameters, and range-relevant 3-D location parameters. Using this property we can estimate range-independent 2-D DOAs by using the RARE algorithm. Once the 2-D DOAs are available, range estimation can be obtained for each source by defining the 1-D MUSIC spectrum. Despite its low computational complexity, the proposed algorithm can provide an estimation performance almost comparable to that of the 3-D MUSIC benchmark estimator.

  • In designing the coastal structures, the accurate estimation of wave forces on them is very important. Recently, the empirical formulae such as Goda formula are widely used to estimate wave forces, as well as 2-D hydraulic and numerical model tests. But, sometimes, these estimation methods mentioned above seem to be unreasonable to predict 3-D structure of wave pressure on the coastal structures with 3-D plane arrangement in the real coastal area. Especially, in case of consideration of phase difference at harbor and seaward sides of the large-sized coastal structures like a composite breakwater, it is easily expected that the real wave pressures on each section of coastal structure have 3-D distribution. A new numerical model of 3-D Large Eddy Simulation, which is applicable to permeable structure, is developed to clarify the 3-D structure of wave pressures acting on coastal structure. The calculated wave forces on 3-D structure installed on the submerged breakwater show in good agreement with the measured values. In this study, the composite breakwater is adopted as a representative structure among the large-sized coastal structures and the 3-D structure of wave pressures on it is discussed in relation to the phase difference at harbor and seaward sides of it due to wave diffraction and transmitted wave through rubble mound.
