  • Parameterizing a model is one of the most efficient ways of conducting "virtual prototying" i.e. exploring the "What if?" scenario. But it is very difficult to construct parameterized models in commercial based FEM programs, because they usually adopt the mouse inputs in their GUI, which cannot be parameterized. We consolidated a parametric modelling technique in OPERA-3d preprocessor, which is one of world leading electromagnetic analysis programs, by combining the mouse inputs in GUI with it's FORTRAN-based self script command language.

  • In urban areas, runoff flow is drained through sewer networks as well as surface areas. Therefore, it is very important to consider sewer networks as a component of hydrological drainage processes when conducting urban inundation modelling. However, most researchers who have implemented urban inundation/flood modelling, instinctively simplified the sewer networks without the appropriate criteria. In this research, a 1D-2D fully coupled urban inundation model is applied to estimate the influence of sewer network simplification on urban inundation modelling based on the dendritic network classification. The one-dimensional (1D) sewerage system analysis model, which was introduced by Lee et al. (2017), is used to simulate inlet and overflow phenomena by interacting with surface flow. Two-dimensional (2D) unstructured meshes are also applied to simulate surface flow and are combined with the 1D sewerage analysis model. Sewer network pipes are simplified based on the dendritic network classification method, namely the second and third order, and all cases of pipes are conducted as a control group. Each classified network case, including a control group, is evaluated through their application to the 27 July 2011 extreme rainfall event, which caused severe inundation damages in the Sadang area in Seoul, South Korea. All cases are compared together regarding inundation area, inflow discharge and overflow discharge. Finally, relevant criterion for the simplification method is recommended.

  • This paper deals with the analysis for the operation characteristic of PV 3 phase inverter, considering the state equation through d-q coordinates transformation, and proposes an algorithm of controlling current using PI(Proportional Integral) controller to control the output and the theory algorithm of sinusoidal PWM method to design inverter. And also this paper performs PV modelling using PSCAD/EMTDC S/W which is commonly used in analysis of distribution system and confirms effectiveness of the modelling proposed in this paper by analyzing and comparing the EMTDC/PSCAD simulation result with the theoretical method.

  • Bridge piers typically have circular or rectangular shapes without decorative design. Prefabrication for accelerated construction has been widely adopted in bridge structures. Cost for steel formwork is a main restriction of creative irregular shapes. 3D modelling techniques allow creative design of columns and 3D printing provides possibility to minimize the fabrication cost. In this paper, 3D design process of bridge piers was suggested by converting 2D picture into 3D decorative shape. Formwork design using 3D printed panels was also proposed and mock-up tests were conducted. Precast columns need accurate geometry control from fabrication to assembly. Laser scanning and geometry control devices were adopted. Through the digitalized process of design, fabrication and assembly, creative design of structures can be realized in reasonable cost range.

  • Research studies on the scale effect on triaxial strength of intact rocks are scarce, being more common those in uniaxial strength. In this paper, the authors present and briefly interpret the peak and residual strength trends on a series of triaxial tests on different size specimens (30 mm to 84 mm diameter) of an intact granitic rock at confinements ranging from 0 to 15 MPa. Peak strength tends to grow from smaller to standard-size samples (54 mm) and then diminishes for larger values at low confinement. However, a slight change in strength is observed at higher confinements. Residual strength is observed to be much less size-dependent. Additionally, this study introduces preliminary modelling approaches of these laboratory observations with the help of three-dimensional particle flow code (PFC3D) simulations based on bonded particle models (BPM). Based on previous studies, two modelling approaches have been followed. In the first one, the maximum and minimum particle diameter (Dmax and Dmin) are kept constant irrespective of the sample size, whereas in the second one, the resolution (number of particles within the sample or ϕv) was kept constant. Neither of these approaches properly represent the observations in actual laboratory tests, even if both of them show some interesting capabilities reported in this document. Eventually, some suggestions are provided to proceed towards improving modelling approaches to represent observed scale effects.

  • CXCR6 is a major target in drug design as it is a determinant receptor in many diseases like AIDS, Type I Diabetes, some cancer types, atherosclerosis, tumor formation, liver disease and steatohepatitis. In this study, we propose the active site residues of CXCR6 molecule. We employed homology modelling and molecular docking approach to generate the 3D structure for CXCR6 and to explore its interaction between the antagonists and agonists. 3D models were generated using 14 different templates having high sequence identity with CXCR6. Surflex docking studies using pyridine and pyrimidine derivatives enabled the analysis of the binding site and finding of the important residues involved in binding. 3D structure of CXCL16, a natural ligand for CXCR6, was modelled using PHYRE and protein - protein docking was performed using ClusPro. The residues which were found to be crucial in interaction with the ligand are THR110, PHE113, TYR114, GLN160, GLN195, CYS251 and SER255. This study can be used as a guide for therapeutic studies of human CXCR6.

  • This paper investigates stereo 3D viewing for linear pushbroom satellite images using the Orbit-Attitude Model proposed by Kim (2006) and using OpenGL graphic library in Digital Photogrammetry Workstation. 3D viewing is tested with KOMPSAT-2 satellite stereo images, a large number of GCPs (Ground control points) collected by GPS surveying and orbit-attitude sensor model as a rigorous sensor model. Comparison is carried out by two accuracy measurements: the accuracy of orbit-attitude modeling with bundle adjustment and accuracy analysis of errors in x and y parallaxes. This research result will help to understand the nature of 3D objects for high resolution satellite images, and we will be able to measure accurate 3D object space coordinates in virtual or real 3D environment.

  • This paper is to study the wind effect of the large scale gantry crane. It is used to control the sway of gantry crane in the loadingiunloading job of containers. I'hls is very important in the automated container terminal because the sway of handling equipments in pard is caused by thc l~nexpected disturbance such as wind and dynamic inertia by deriving force. This study shows the process of the modelling simulation of the wind effect of the sway motion of the gantry crane. Pro-Engineer, ANSYS and DAD'; ~ rr . used for 3D solid modelling and dynamic simulation. Though this study did not use the real parameters. the ; cwl ~ shows the trend of the wind effect is very large in the large scale crane and should be considered in design of the large scale gantry crane. In future, if the study is done by using the real parameters, the result is much more ~ise!'ul for dynamic control and design of gantry crane.

  • P2X receptors are ATP-activated ion channels in the plasma membrane. P2X receptors have a role in a diverse range of disorders, making them a valuable therapeutic target. Hence, the present investigation employed homology modelling of the P2X receptor based on the crystal structure of 5SVJ, 6AH4, 5YVE and 5SVL. Twenty models, using both single- and multiple template-based methods, were developed, and the best model was chosen based on the validation result. We observed that a strategy based on multiple templates provided greater accuracy. Future studies involving binding site and docking analysis can make use of the produced structures.
