In this study, the femur, the tibia, the articular cartilage and the menisci are three dimensionally reconstructed using MR images of healthy knee joint in full extension of 26-year-old male. Three dimensional finite element model of the knee joint is fabricated on the reconstructed model. Also, the FE models of ligaments and tendons are attached on the biologically suitable position of the FE model. Bones, articular cartilages and menisci are considered as homogeneous, isotropic and linear elastic materials, and ligaments and tendons are modeled as truss element and nonlinear elastic springs. The numerical results show the contact pressure and the von Mises stress distribution in the soft tissues such as articular cartilages and menisci which can be regarded as important parameters to estimate the failure of the tissues and the pain of the patients.

Silica is an essential material in the electronics industries of LCDs and OLEDs, which particularly require high purity. This study attempted to find the optimal design of a magnetic separator for silica sand containing iron compounds using CFD simulation. Three designs of magnetic separation were prepared and their efficiency was examined. As a result of the evaluation, the sufficient contact of particulate silica with the surface of magnetic emitters improved the magnetic separation effects. In addition, the loss of $SiO_2$ and the removal rate of $Fe_2O_3$ depended strongly on the particle size, flow rate and magnetic flux density. In addition, magnetic separation is quite effective for a particle size of $10{\mu}m$ with a 0.2 m/s flow rate.

Lightweight parts with very uniform precision are manufactured by an indent method and the press technique has been improved. Upon assembly with an indent method, a deformation force due to the compressive force occurs between the pin and hole and the contact surface is affected by damage. Therefore, a 3 dimensional model was made using the CATIA program and the damage on the surface contacted with indent was estimated through the ANSYS program in this study. In the analysis result, the maximum load applied at the PCB plate was 21.3 N when the pin goes through the PCB plate. When PCB plate came out of the pin, the maximum load was 19.24 N. As the structural analysis result, the maximum equivalent stress of Pin 1 was 192.96MPa because the maximum stress occurs at Pin 1 among all parts of this study model. By examining the damage property of the contacted indent and applying this study result to the design of real indentation, the damage can be prevented and the durability can be estimated.
We examined the effects of ${\beta}$-glucan-reinforced PLGA film and scaffold on HDFs (human dermal fibroblast) attachment and proliferation. The PLGA films were prepared by simple solvent-casting method. The prepared films were grafted with $(1{\to}3)(1{\to}6)-{\beta}-glucan$ in various ratios after plasma treatment on surface. The surface of the film was characterized by contact angle measurement, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectrophotometer (FT-IR). The amount of $(1{\to}3)(1{\to}6)-{\beta}-glucan$ in the prepared film was indirectly determined by phenol-sulfuric acid method. The HDFs (Human dermal fibroblasts) were used to evaluate the cell attachment and proliferation on PLGA specimens before and after plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ treatment. The result showed that the plasma treated groups exhibited more mont of ${\beta}-glucan$ might be grafted than the non plasma treated groups. Cell attachment was significantly enhanced in the plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ grafted group after 4 hours incubation (p<0.05) due to the improved hydrophilicity and cytoactivity effect of the ${\beta}-glucan$. The cell proliferation of plasma/${\beta}-glucan$ (2mg/ml) grafted group was the highest rate among the groups (p<0.05).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of high-heels (HH) modification on metatarsal stress in female workers. Method: Seven females who work in clothing stores ($heights=160.4{\pm}3.9cm$; $weights=47.4{\pm}4.1kg$; $age=31.3{\pm}11.1yrs$; $HH\;wear\;career=8{\pm}6.5yrs$) wore two types of HH (original and modified). The modified HH had been grooved with 1.5 cm radius and 0.2 cm depth around the first metatarsal area inside of the shoes using the modified shoe-last. Participants were asked to walk for 15 minutes on a treadmill and to stand for 10 minutes with original and modified HH, respectively. Kinetics data were collected by the F-scan in-shoe system. After each test, participants were asked to rate their perceived exertion using the Borg's 15-grade RPE scale and interviewed about their feeling of HH. Nonparametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test and effect size (Cohen's d) were used to determine the difference of the variables of interest between the original and modified HH. Results: In the present study, modified HH of the peak contact pressure of 1st metatarsal (PCP) left, PCP right, pressure time integral (PTI) left, peak pressure gradient (PPG) left during standing and PPG right during walking are greater than original HH. And even it didn't show statistically significant, the average in all pressure values of modified HH showed bigger than original HH. It surmised to be related to awkward with modified HH. Even though they said to feel the comfortable cause of big space inside of HH in the interview, they seemed to be not enough time to adapt with new HH. So their walking and standing postures were unstable. Conclusion: Modified the fore-medial part of HH can reduce the stress in the first metatarsal head and big toe area during standing and walking.
The building process of any geological map involves linking sparse lithological outcrop information with equally sparse geometrical measurements, all in a single entity which is the preferred interpretation of the field geologist. The actual veracity of this interpretative map is partially dependent upon the frequency and distribution of geological outcrops compounded by the complexity of the local geology. Geophysics is commonly used as a tool to augment the distribution of data points, however it normally does not have sufficient geometrical constraints due to: a) all geophysical inversion models being inherently non-unique; and b) the lack of knowledge of the physical property contrasts associated with specific lithologies. This contribution proposes the combined use of geophysical edge detection routines and 'three point' solutions from topographic data as a possible approach to obtaining geological contact geometry information (strike and dip), which can be used in the construction of a preliminary geological model. This derived geological information should first be assessed for its compatibility with the scale of the problem, and any directly observed geological data. Once verified it can be used to help constrain the preferred geological map interpretation being developed by the field geologist. The method models the contacts as planar surfaces. Therefore, it must be ensured that this assumption fits the scale and geometry of the problem. Two examples are shown from folded sequences at the Bathurst Mining Camp, New Brunswick, Canada.
Rock properties and the effects of chemicals that were used for conservation were studied for effective conservation treatment of Seated Buddha rock carving, which is composed of grayish white tuff, at Golguram Hermitage, Gyeongju. The rocks contain 3-5% montmorillonite, a swelling mineral and reacting with water, the d spacing of swelling minerals was increased (1.54-2.69%). On the one hand, the physical properties of the rock samples, such as surface hardness, water absorption rate, and porosity improved after the application of ethyl silicate-based stone strengthener. On the other, the interlayer of swelling minerals decreased and greater the of swelling mineral content, the greater is the extent of swelling (4.23-12.12%). When the ethyl silicate-based stone strengthener was applied after pretreatment with a swelling inhibitor, the physical properties were similar to those of the stone strengthener alone. There was no interlayer spacing change of swelling minerals due to swelling inhibition treatment; however, when the stone strengthener was applied after the swelling inhibitor, interlayer changes were similar to those when only the stone strengthener was treated (4.10-11.85%). Though the peak intensity of swelling minerals in X-ray diffraction pattern decreased, the effect of the swelling inhibitor was almost negligible. Therefore, it is not appropriate to use ethyl silicate-based stone strengthener for Golgulam rock containing swelling minerals and supplementing them with a swelling inhibition system is not effective. Because weathering rapidly progresses when swelling minerals contact moisture, for now, measures to prevent water contact, such as expansion of the canopy, are needed in the lower and side parts of the carving.
The solution polymerization was conducted to synthesize pressure sensitive adhesive for polarizer film using acrylic monomers. 2-Ethylhexylacrylate, butylacrylate, acrylic acid were used as acrylic monomers. The ratio was 2-ethylliexylacrylate:butylacrylate:acrylic acid=25:50:3.6 by reflecting $-40^{\circ}C$ of glass transition temperature in the pressure sensitive adhesive. When 1 wt% of coupling agent was added to the polymerized pressure sensitive adhesive, the light transmissivity was significantly increased. This result is due to the enhancement of adhesive power against liquid crystal cell by Si-O bond of coupling agents. Cross-linking agent was added by 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 wt% with respect to the synthesized polymer. Initial tackiness decreased, while cohesion increased with increasing crosslinking agent. In the analysis of contact angle, the increase of crosslinking agents yielded the enhancement of surface energy, resulting in the decrease of contact angle. From the measurement of heat resistance, the acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive showed excellent heat resistance regardless of change in temperature and contents in crosslinking agent. In the observation of a cutting plane, the increased crosslinking agent represented a smoother and cleaner section. Comprehensively, the optimum additive amount of crosslinking agent was determined to be 1.0 wt% to monomer.
Purpose : With increasing number of school accidents, it is crucial to find out necessity of first aid training among school health educator. This study has been conducted to have an clear idea on the demands and necessity for first aid training and what kind of training is most required from school health educator. Method : In this study, questionnaires from 87 school health educator in elementary, middle and high school health educator in the city D were analyzed. The survey was carned out from May 26, 2008 to June 7, 2008 and from the collected data, frequency, independent two samples t-test, paired T-test, one way ANOVA and pearson's correlation were conducted with SPSS 14.0. Result: 1. 51.61 % of nurse-teachers experienced emergency situations and the relations between the necessity they felt from experiencing those situations and demands for first aid training were not statistically meaningful(t=1.87, p= .175). 2. Necessity and demands for the first-aid training were checked with three point scale and there were statistical significance between the two with $2.44{\pm}.47$ and $2.24{\pm}.47$ respectively(t=3.275, p= .000). 3. 86.20%(75 persons) of the respondents have had received first aid training and the training they received were CPR 82.75%(72 persons), primary survey 81.60%(7l persons), contact to 911 79.30%(69 persons) and wounds treatment(lacerated wounds, bum and chilblains) 75.86%( 66 persons) in order. 4. As for the questions that ask on confidence of first-aid treatment, 80% answered they are confident on some limited kinds of treatments, 16% said they are confident and 4% answered they lack confidence. As for the treatment that they can show the highest confidence, wounds treatment topped the list with 93.24%, nose bleeding and removing foreign substance, and stanching followed the list with 82.43% and 81.08% respectively. 5. 97.67% of respondents said they were willing to take training and 89.62% answered to take the training to deal with emergency situations that are taking place in their schools. As for the question that asks for the most wanted treatments, CPR topped the list with 32.18%(28 persons) and treatment for obstruction of airway and shock followed the list with 35.63%(31 persons) and 27.59%(24 persons). Conclusion : Currently, first aid treatment has been centered on CPR, primary survey, contact to 119 and wounds treatment. However, since most of school health educator are fairly confident with wounds treatment, stanching and other first aids, in future training it will be more desirable to focus on CPR and treatment for obstruction of airway and shock that were shown to be most wanted by school health educator.
Optimal dispersion and fabrication conditions of carbon nanotube (CNT) embedded in phenolic resin were determined by electrical resistance measurement; and interfacial property was investigated between plasma treated carbon fiber and CNT-phenolic composites by electro-micromechanical techniques. Wettability of carbon fiber was improved significantly after plasma treatment. Surface energies of carbon fiber and CNT-phenolic nanocomposites were measured using Wilhelmy plate technique. Since surface activation of carbon fiber, the advancing contact angle decreased from $65^{\circ}$ to $28^{\circ}$ after plasma treatment. It was consistent with static contact angle results of carbon fiber. Work of adhesion between plasma treated carbon fiber and CNT-phenolic nanocomposites was higher than that without modification. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and apparent modulus also increased with plasma treatment of carbon fiber.
