  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for improving a soft tennis forehand middle volley technique based on kinematic and kinetic analyses of volleys performed by four male national tennis players($33.3{\pm}2.16$ years). The results are as follows. The first phase of the stroke was the longest, covering 64.7% of the stroke time. The displacement of the center of gravity was 48.1% to the right and 54% to the front in the first phase. When impacted, the elbow joint showed the highest average velocity, 3.67m/s, and the upper arm segment displayed the highest angular velocity, $201^{\circ}/s$. The average of the elbow angle and the ball velocity were $149^{\circ}$ and 18.9m/s, respectively. In the ground reaction force, the left and right foot forces in both the x and y directions showed a statistically significant difference. This result seems to indicate that when the left foot is pushed to the right, the force of the right foot is proportional and symmetrical to the left, serving as a supporter.

  • In this study a 3-component rotating balance, which is designed to measure the thrust (Fz) and two moment components (Mx, My) simultaneously for a rotor test jig, is designed and its performance is validated experimentally. The low voltage signal from the strain gages mounted on the balance is amplified with a rotating amplifier, which is then fed through a slip-ring unit into the data acquisition system. In order to validate the accuracy of the calibration matrix obtained from a static calibration test, an additional reaction type balance is used to measure the thrust from a model rotor simultaneously, and shows very good result. Finally, the expanded uncertainty value, which is obtained from ISO method is estimated to be $2.82\times10^{-1}$, and the balance turns out to be reliable.

  • The girders of cable stayed bridge are subjected to not only the bending moments but also additional compressive axial forces due to the horizontal components of cable forces. Because of these axial forces, the stiffness of girder can be decreased, and this problem should be considered especially for under-construction model rather than the full model. Korean domestic design specification suggests the linear elastic eigen value analysis for the stability problem of cable stayed bridges. However, this method cannot be applied to the under construction model because various geometric nonlinear characteristics cannot be considered. Therefore, in this study, 3 models which are assumed to be constructed by balanced cantilever will be considered experimentally and analytically to analyze the behavior of steel cable stayed bridges.

  • A high Reynolds number transonic wind tunnel has been built in 2018 at Agency for Defense Development(ADD). The tunnel has a closed circuit with a 1.5m×1.5m test section and is injection driven from a 140bar air supply system. The Mach number range is 0.3-1.2 with a conventional contracting nozzle and 1.4 with a convergent-divergent contraction. The stagnation pressure range is 100-550kPa at the lowest Mach number. An AGARD-B standard model is tested in the transonic wind tunnel to obtain 6-DOF aerodynamic coefficients. The results are compared with those obtained from ADD trisonic wind tunnel and others. We verify that the transonic wind tunnel become available to develop an aircraft from the testing results.

  • In this study, forces and moments were measured on a projectile which consisted of a missile configuration body(shell) and a head installed control fins. The shell and the head were separated each other and the shell was rotated by an electric motor. The head rotated reversely against the rotational direction of the shell. The rotational force on the head was obtained from a couple of fixed fins of which angular displacement were set to the rotational direction equally. The air velocity was 40m/s on the experiment and the Reynolds number based on the diameter of head was $1.3{\times}10^5$. The other couple of fins were used to control the position and direction of the projectile by changing the angular displacement. From this experiment, the variation of force and moment were measured on the rotating projectile, and the effective amplitude and frequency were obtained through the FFT analysis.

  • The optimum cutting condition of rake angle in turning was investigated in SM45C and SM20C. Results of experiments in SM45C and SM20C are as follow. Specific cutting resistance became higher as the depth of cutting, feed or cutting velocity decreases at same rake angle and resistance became low value at 20.deg.(SM45C), 10.deg.(SM20C). The optimum cutting condition for SM45C is depth of cutting 0.7mm, rake angle 30.deg., cutting velocity 200mm/min, feed 0.1mm/rev, and for SM20C is depth of cut 0.5mm, rake angle 10.deg., cutting velocity 150mm/min, feed 0.1mm/rev.The rake angle for good roughness is 15.deg for SM45C, and that for SM20C is 25.deg. The roughness is influenced by feed and it has the lowest value at 0.1mm/rev and the cutting condition is closely related with the change of cutting velocity and feed.

  • Propeller performance measurement system for commercial propeller was designed and applied to the wind tunnel test for 3 commercial propeller models with diameters of 30 inch. The thrust and torque of the propeller was directly measured by using 6-components balance installed on the rotating axis. The measurement system was validated by using wind tunnel balance calibration equipment. Propeller test stand including measurement and rotating system was validated by using QTP propeller. In the hovering condition, we compared the performance test results and the specifications of the commercial propeller provided by the manufacturer and confirmed that there are differences in the thrust and the torque. We measured the propeller performance with various wind speeds, propeller models and angles of attack and was summarized by thrust coefficients. We confirmed that the trend of the thrust coefficients was different in the low angle of attack and high angle of attack. An aerodynamics database that can be used for future aerodynamic design of an unmanned aerial vehicle was secured.

  • The aim of this study were to measure and compare the stress level on three type brackets and each other material (stainless steel, ceramic) with tipping and torquing forces by using the finite element analysis and to design biomechanically favorable brackets. For this study, three kinds of brackets were selected(A:Transcend-RMO, B:Signature-Unitek, C:PAW: plain archwire appliance-applied for a patent in Yonsei Udiversity). The slot size of bracket was 0.022inch and the size of archwire was 0.0175x0.025inch and taper shaped archwire was used in PAW. Loading force in tipping was 4.27N and torquing force was 32.858N applied by archwire torsion with 19.7degree and 11.3 degree in C type bracket. The conclusions were that (1) The finite element method proved to be a useful tool in the stress analysis of orthodontic bracket subjected to various forces. (2) With tipping, the stresses were concentrated at the gingival wall of the wire slot where it meets the mesial bracket surface and the incisal wall of the wire slot where it meets the distal bracket surface and with torquing, the stresses were concentrated at the junction of the gingival or incisal wall and base of the slot. (3) The maximum stress value was higher in torquing force than tipping force and therefore it is desirable to design on the basis of torquing force. (4) It was considered that the change in material might be affect on the diminish of stress value in the place of stess concentration. (5) The maximum stress value was highest on PAW bracket when the tipping and torquing force was applied and therefore it would be desirable to use mechanically favorable material on PAW bracket.

  • This paper presents the rotating test techniques and the results of the roating test of the small-scaled hingeless rotor system with composite paddle blades in hover and forward flight conditions. The small-scaled rotor system was designed using froude-scaled properties of full scale rotor system. Metal flexures and composite flexures were made as hub flexures by the same dynamic properties of rotor system. The rotating tests of hingeless rotor system installed in GSRTS at KARI were carried out to get lead-lag damping ratios and aerodynamic loads of the hingeless rotor system. MBA(Moving Block Analysis) technique was used for the estimation of lead-lag damping ratio. 6-components balance was installed between hub and main shaft and straingauges on blades were instrumented for the measurements of aerodynamic loads of rotor system. Tests were performed on the ground and in the wind tunnel according to the test conditions of hover and forward flight, respectively.

  • In modern society in which the fourth industrial revolution has come to the fore and rapid technology innovations are taking place, a phenomenon of making and selling small quantities of various products that consumers want instead of mass producing one item has emerged. As the market is moving toward the multi-item small-sized production system, there is a need for a system in which a machine independently judges and carries out machining and post-processing. In order for a machine to judge processing on its own, it is necessary to measure the force applied to a product. This study aimed to develop a large-scale dynamometer that enables three-axis measurement using octagonal ring load cells. As for the device's configuration, four octagonal ring load cells, which were previously researched, were used to enable three-axis measurement. It was reconfigured by modifying the attachment position of the octagonal ring load cells' strain gauge and the Wheatstone bridge of each axis, and a system was set up to allow the monitoring of data measured through the monitor. The configured device calculated a strain rate by an experiment, and this rate was compared with the theoretical strain rate to find a correction value. The correction value was entered into a formula, deriving a modified formula. The modified formula was entered into the device, which completed the large-scale dynamometer.
