In this study, the simulation and analysis for the inundation in a coastal urban area according to the storm surge height are carried out using a 2-D numerical model. The target area considered in this study is a part of the new town of Changwon City, Gyungsangnam-do and this area was extremely damaged due to the storm surge generated during the period of the typhoon "Maemi" in 2003. For the purpose of the verification of the numerical model applied in this study, the simulated results are compared and analyzed with the temporal storm surge heights observed at the tide station in Masan bay and inundation traces in an urban area. Moreover, in order to investigate the influence of super typhoons possible in the future, the results simulated with the storm surge heights increased 1.25 and 1.5 times compared with those observed during the period of typhoon "Maemi" are compared and analyzed.
Constructing a reliable runoff model and reducing model runtime are important in research of real-time urban flood forecasting to reduce the repetitive flood damage. Sewer networks in the major urban basin such as Seoul are vast and complex so that it is not suitable for real-time urban flood forecasting. Therefore, the rainfall-runoff model should be simplified. However, the runoff results due to the simplification of sewer networks can vary depending on the subjectivity and simplification method of the researcher and there is a significant difference especially in 2-D inundation analysis. In this study, the sewer networks in various urban basins with different numbers and distributions of sewer networks were simplified to certain criteria. The accuracy of the simplification model according to the sewer network scale is evaluated by 2-D inundation analysis. The runoff models of Gwanak, Sillim, and Dorimcheon, frequently inundated basins were simplified based on four simplification ranges due to the cumulative drainage area set as a criterion for calculating the simplification range. This study will be expected that the inundation result of simplification models estimated through the analysis can contribute to the construction of a reasonable and accurate runoff model suitable for real-time flood forecasting.

Flood inundation map has various important roles in terms of municipal planning, timely dam operation, economic levee design, and building flood forecasting systems. Considering that the riparian areas adjacent to national rivers with high potential flood vulnerability conventionally imposed special cares to justify applications of recently available two- or three-dimensional flood inundation numerical models on top of digital elevation models of dense spatial resolution such as LiDAR irrespective of their high costs. On the contrary, local streams usually could not have benefits from recent technological advances, instead they inevitably have relied upon time-consuming manual drawings or have accepted DEMs with poor resolutions or inaccurate 1D numerical models for producing inundation maps due mainly to limited budgets and suitable techniques. In order to efficiently and cost-effectively provide a series of flood inundation maps dedicatedly for the local streams, this study proposed an OpenGIS-based flood mapping tool named Open Flood Mapper (OFM). The spatial accuracy of flood inundation map derived from the OFM was validated throughout comparison with an inundation trace map acquired after typhoon Nari in Hancheon basin located in Jeju Island. Also, a series of inundation maps from the OFM were comprehensively investigated to track the burst of flood in the extreme flood events.
In this study, quasi-3D inundation flow simulations were conducted for a simplified subway station configuration. The effects of variations in rainwater inflow locations and discharge were investigated, analyzing the resulting inundation flow patterns and flood risk. The inundation simulation results calculated the incipient velocities for slipping and toppling accidents to assess pedestrian safety. The results indicated that velocities exceeding the incipient velocity for slipping accidents mainly occurred on the flooded staircase. Meanwhile, velocities surpassing the incipient toppling accidents were observed around the staircase and the corridor near the staircase leading to B2F. This observation is consistent with the results from the specific force distribution analysis. To provide detailed flood risk assessments, the Flood Hazard Degree (FD) was applied with four levels of criteria, along with the Flood Intensity Factor (FIF). The results demonstrated that FD identified a broader area at risk of flood-induced consequences compared to FIF. When comparing the different inundation risk assessment methods, the specific force method tended to overestimate the risk area, whereas FIF tended to underestimate it. Furthermore, among all assessment methods, the influence of rainwater discharge was found to have a more dominant effect on flood risk assessment compared to the number of rainwater inflow locations. Additionally, the direction of inundation flow influenced the assessed risk, with collision-induced flow patterns leading to higher flood risk than those with identical flow directions.

In this study, 2-D Godunov type finite volume model which can apply the mixed mesh including triangular and quadrilateral meshes for flood inundation modeling is used to compare and analyze the flood height, flood extent and model execution time according to mesh type and resolution. The study area is the Upton-upon Severn watershed in Great Britain, where the flood occurred for 22 days from October 29 to November 19, 2000. For the flood modeling, topographic data were constructed using high resolution LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging). The results of the 2-D flood modeling by the mesh type and resolution were compared with four ASAR (Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar) images captured during the flood period. This study has shown that flood height and extent can vary greatly depending on the mesh type and resolution, even if identical topography and boundary conditions are used, and that the selection of appropriate mesh type and resolution for the purpose and situation of the 2-D flood modeling is necessary.
In this study, the simulations and analyses of flood flow due to a river inundation in a coastal urban area are carried out using a two-dimensional finite volume model with well-balanced HLLC scheme. The target area is a coastal urban area around Gohyun river which is located at Geoje city in Kyungnam province and was extremely damaged due to the heavy rainfall during the period of the typhoon "Maemi" in September 2003. For the purpose of the verification of the numerical model applied in this study, the simulated results are compared and analyzed with the inundation traces. In addition, the flood flow in an urban area is simulated and analyzed according to the scenarios of inflow variation due to the increase and decrease of the intensity of the heavy rainfall, which.
Five dictyostelid cellular slime molds were isolated from the littoral grassland ecoystems of the lake Paldangho, safeguard of waterworks, Kyounggi-do, South Korea. They were Poiysphoadylium violceum, Dictyosielium aureo-stipes var. aureo-stipes D crassicaule, D macrocephalum and D gigauteum. P. violaceum was dominant species. It live on the low nutrient and barren soils as the littoral zone destabilized in surface soils, litters and chemicals by inundation an rain precipitation. Key words: Cellular slime mold, Littoral grassland ecosystem.

Recently due to the typhoon and extreme rainfall induced by abnormal weather and climate change, the probability of severe damage to human life and property is rapidly increasing. Thus it is necessary to create adequate and reliable flood risk map in preparation for those natural disasters. The study area is Seo-gu in Daegu which is located near Geumho river, one of the tributaries of Nakdong river. Inundation depth and velocity at each time were calculated by applying FLUMEN model to the target area of interest, Seo-gu in Daegu. And the research of creating flood risk map was conducted according to the Downstream Hazard Classification Guidelines of USBR. The 2-dimensional inundation analysis for channels and protected lowland with FLUMEN model was carried out with the basic assumption that there's no levee failure against 100 year precipatation and inflow comes only through the overflowing to the protected lowland. The occurrence of overflowing was identified at the levee of Bisan-dong located in Geumho watershed. The level of risk was displayed for house/building residents, drivers and pedestrians using information about depth and velocity of each node computed from the inundation analysis. Once inundation depth map and flood risk map for each region is created with this research method, emergency action guidelines for residents can be systemized and it would be very useful in establishing specified emergency evacuation plans in case of levee failure and overflowing resulting from a flood.
Recently, due to the rapid industrialization and urbanization, a great number of infrastructure and population were concentrated in urban areas. These changes have resulted in unprecedent runoff characteristics in urban basins, and the increase in impermeable areas leads to the growth of the runoff and the peak flow rate. Although many cities have made a lot of efforts to check and expand the stormwater network, the flash flood or the local torrential rain caused a growing number of casualty and property damage. This study analyzed the stormwater passage rate in a target area using SWMM. By incorporating the flow quantity surpassing the storm sewer capacity, a 2D inland flooding analysis model was applied to route the inundated area and velocity.
