The flow characteristics and the aspects of riverbed changes were analyzed for the upstream and downstream sections of Gongju Bridge. The upstream and downstream had complex topography, and the sections had the confluence of tributaries and several structures. In order to simulate the flow characteristics of the target sections, 1D HEC-RAS and 2D RMA2 were applied. As a result, the longitudinal water level of the target sections matched the results of simulated 1D and 2D samples. Also, 2D SED2D were applied to predict riverbed changes. As a result of the simulation, quantitative analysis was able to be performed for longitudinal riverbed changes from the sections of sudden change, bridges, the confluence of tributaries, and bends. Also, the distribution of riverbed changes on the main sections was in close relation to flow velocity. As a result of evaluating the sensitivity of SED2D, the concentration of suspended sediment, the thickness of sand beds, and the size of sand grains affected riverbed changes sensitively. These results will be used to apply the models of riverbed changes in the future.

The purpose of this study is to simulate the riverbed profile changes downstream of Daecheong re-regulation dam from 1988 to 2001, to evaluate the model's applicability and to predict a long-term riverbed-level variation between 2002 and 2017. As a result of simulation 14 sediment transport equations provided by GSTAR-1D, it was found that Acker's & White formula was the most stable relatively. The interval used to calculate its stability was 7 days for bankful discharge$(1,000m^2/s)$, 3 days for daily maximum flow$(4,273m^2/s)$, 1 day for hourly maximum flow$(7,605m^2/s)$ and minimum flow$(8.5m^2/s)$. The simulation results of river bed changes were evaluated and compared to its measure data from 1988 to 2001. It was showed that there was the degradation for a section between Daecheong re-regulation dam and Maepo water stage gage station due to bed-material, and the degradation for a reach between Maepo and Gongju water stage gage station due to massive aggregate collection. Also, as a result of simulating the river profile change for 2002 to 2017, it was predicted that the section between Daecheong re-regulation dam and Geumnam Bridge would remain as the present profile and the reach between Maepo and Gongju water stage gage station would have some degradations in several parts, which would be stable as a whole unless it was due to artificial river profile change.
Tree in river have environmental functions such as ecosystem preservation and flood control functions that protect the riverbank. On the other hand, excessive tree development can have the negative effect of fixing the sand bar and reducing the cross-sectional area. Nays2D simulation results performing two flow conditions (average dam operation discharge and two-year frequency discharge) and four tree density conditions (current, zero, low, high tree density) used as input data for PHABSIM to calculate WUA (Weighted Usable Area). The results show that riverbed changes occur more significantly in the zero tree density than presence of trees, which could have a positive impact on the biological habitat environment of Zacco platypus.

When the hydraulic structures, such as bridge and weir, are consecutively installed to a short section of a river with complicated cross section, analyzing the flow characteristics and the riverbed change modality of the river is very important. In the 250 m section of the Taehwa river near the Samho-bridge, which passes through Ulsan city, three bridges has been installed, and the tributary water is flowing into both up and downstream of the section. Due to these factors, when the flood occurs, the cross section of the river changes vastly by the water level change and scour. Even so, due to the fact that the Samho-bridge divides the section into two parts, the national river and the regional river, each part is being analyzed separately by the onedimensional model. In this study, the flow characteristics due to the bridge concentration and the tributary water inflow were jointly analyzed for both up and downstream by using the one-dimensional HEC-RAS model and the two-dimensional SMS model, such as RMA2. The riverbed change modality of the section was also investigated by using the SED2D model. The results showed that the water level difference between the HEC-RAS and RMA2 was 0.87 m when applied to the three consecutive bridges. The riverbed change simulation using SED2D showed that the maximum scour was 0.231 m and it occurred at the Samho-bridge, which located in the middle and has short pier distance. In conclusion, when planning the river maintenance for the regions with concentrated bridges or the sections with severe changes in cross-section and flow, estimating the flood elevation by two-dimensional model and establishing countermeasures for the scouring of the bridge are required. In addition, an integrated analysis on both the national river and the regional river is necessary.
Channel-bed of erosion and sedimentation, where eroded bed and bank materials re-deposit through the action of flow, is a natural phenomenon in alluvial systems. Analysis using a numerical model is important to understand the sediment transport mechanism associated with erosion and sedimentation near weirs and other hydraulic structures within riverine systems. The local riverbed change near a hydraulic structure (Changnyong-Haman multi-function weir in Nakdong river) has been analyzed in order to examine the effect of hydraulic structure on local bed change. A 2D numerical model (CCHE-2D) has been implemented to simulate the sedimentation and erosion over a reach (10 km) including the weir. For the calibration and verification of the model, the rainfall data from a real event (Typoon 'Maemi' in 2003) has been used for flow and stage simulation. And the simulated results show a good agreement with the observed data for whole domain. From the result, it was found that the installation and operation of weir can aggravate the local bed change caused from the flow field change and resulting redistribution of sediment.

And the simulated results show a good agreement with the observed data for the whole domain. From the result, it was found that the installation and operation of the weir could aggravate bed changes by typhoon between movable weirs, and which resulted in redistribution of sediment.

The calculation method using the numerical model developed is currently one of the mose required method to predict sediment transport and bed changes in the rivers. Specially, it is real condition that is applying as it is a single sediment transport equation and sediment transport mode mostly without verification process with field data. The sensitivity analysis and calibration process considering the different sediment transport equations and sediment transport modes should be performed for the accurate bed change prediction of the specified study reach using the a model. Through its process, the optimum sediment transport equation and mode for the study reach should be defined. In this study, bed changes for the actual river are computed using the CCHE2D model allowed to select various sediment transport equations and modes. The bed change sensitivity analysis with different ranges of river flow discharge through its process, the optimum sediment transport equation and mode for the study reach should be defined. The bed change simulation with the actual hydraulic condition and the modeling results are compared with the field survey results.

A water pipeline buried under the riverbed could be exposed by bed erosion, therefore safe crossing sections should be analyzed for preventing damages due to the exposure of pipelines. In this study, flow and bed changes have been simulated using a two-dimensional numerical model for selecting the optimized section of pipeline crossing in the Geum River. As a result of simulation with the 20-year recurrence flood, sediment deposition has been distributed overall in the channel and bed erosion over 2 m has occurred near bridge piers. For the extreme flood simulation, the channel bed near the bridge piers has been eroded down to the buried depth. Therefore, within 140 m upstream of the bridge piers, bed erosion affects a buried pipeline in safety due to bridge pier effects and the crossing section over 150 m upstream of bridge piers is selected as a safe zone of a water pipeline.

The river management in Korea had been focused on line based 2D spatial data for the developing river management application system. In this study, the polygon based 3D spatial data such as aerial photos and satellite images were selected and used through comparing their resolution levels for the river environment management. In addition, 1m detailed DEM (Digital Elevation Model) was constructed to implement the real topography information around river so that the damage area scale could be extracted for flood disaster. Also, the social environment thematic maps such as a cadastral map or land cover map could be used to verify the real damage area scale by overlay analysis on aerial photos or satellite images. The construction of these spatial data makes possible to present the real surface information and extract quantitative analysis to support the scientific decision making for establishing the river management policy. For the further study, the lidar surveying data will be considered as the very useful data by offering the real height information of riverbed as the depth of river so that flood simulation can give more reality.
Because of the rapid rising of water related disasters due to the global warming, the extreme design criteria of levee construction for severe flood has been applied in several developed countries such as USA and Netheland. In Korea, the national river restoration projects were carried out on 4 major rivers in recent several years. The projects consisted of riverbed dredge and levee reinforcement, and new construction have caused wide change of river environment. However, concrete countermeasures for levee safety and river management have not been suggested until now. Therefore, this study assesses the levee safety of Yulji levee located in Hoechon, Nakdong Basin, where the Levee Seepage Monitoring System installed. The stability of levee is assessed based on the simulation performed by SEEP/W(2D unsaturated seepage model) and the simulated results are compared with the observed data. The effects of the flood wave and levee shape on the levee safety are investigated through several simulations.
