  • In this paper, we have proposed the new configuration of wideband antenna using CPW fred lines. The proposed antenna has CPW feed lines and U-slot to achieve wade bandwidth with good impedance matching. The use of CPW feed line can decrease the number of substrates. It is compared with the conventional antenna find by a microstrip fled line. The parameters of CPW fred lines were studied by using the quasi-static approximation which is based on the conformal mapping method. The analysis of CPW discontinuities such as the tapered-step structure and the open ended gap were studied by using the quasi-static approximation which is based on the boundary element method. Also, the equivalent circuit model of multi-layer antenna were proposed using the cavity model. Experiment results of the proposed antenna 7how wide-bandwidth characteristics and good radiation patterns in passband.

  • We propose a 2D 'crack' element for the simulation of propagating crack with minimal remeshing. A regular finite element containing the crack tip is replaced with this novel crack element, while the elements which the crack has passed are split into two transition elements. Singular elements can easily be implemented into this crack element to represent the crack-tip singularity without enrichment. Both crack element and transition element proposed in our formulation are mapped from corresponding master elements which are commonly built using the moving least-square (MLS) approximation only in the natural coordinate. In numerical examples, the accuracy of stress intensity factor $K_I$ is demonstrated and the crack propagation in a plate is simulated.

  • The time-stepping boundary element method has been so far applied by the authors to transient heat conduction in isotropic solids as well as in orthotropic solids. In this paper, attempt is made to extend the method to 2-D transient heat conduction in arbitrarily anisotropic solids. The resulting boundary integral equation is discretized by means of the boundary element with quadratic interpolation. The final system of equations thus obtained is solved by advancing the time step from the given initial state to the final state. Through numerical compuation of a few examples the potential usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated.

  • As a truly meshfree method, meshless equilibrium on line method (MELM), for 2D elasticity problems is presented. In MELM, the problem domain is represented by a set of distributed nodes, and equilibrium is satisfied on lines for any node within this domain. In contrary to conventional meshfree methods, test domains are lines in this method, and all integrals can be easily evaluated over straight lines along x and y directions. Proposed weak formulation has the same concept as the equilibrium on line method which was previously used by the authors for enforcement of the Neumann boundary conditions in the strong-form meshless methods. In this paper, the idea of the equilibrium on line method is developed to use as the weak forms of the governing equations at inner nodes of the problem domain. The moving least squares (MLS) approximation is used to interpolate solution variables in this paper. Numerical studies have shown that this method is simple to implement, while leading to accurate results.

  • Superplastic forming/diffusion bonding (SPF/DB) processes were analyzed using a 3-D rigid visco-plastic finite element method. A constant-triangular element based on membrane approximation and an incremental theory of plasticity are employed for the formulation. The coulomb friction law is used for interface friction between tool and material. Pressure-time relationship for a given optimal strain rate is calculated by stress and pressure values at the previous iteration step. In order to improve the contact searching, hierarchical search algorithm has been applied and implemented into the code. Various geometries including sandwich panel and 3 sheet shape for 3-D SPF/DB model are analyzed using the developed program. The validity fer the analysis is verified by comparison between analysis and results in the literature.

  • This paper addresses the framework of object-oriented image coding, describing a new algorithm, based on monodimensional Legendre polynomials, for texture approximation. Through the use of 1D orthogonal basis functions, the computational complexity which usually makes prohibitive most of 2D region-oriented approaches is significantly reduced, while only a slight increment of distortion is introduced. In the aim of preserving the bidimensional intersample correlation of the texture information as much as possible, suitable pseudo-bidimensional basis functions have been used, yielding significant improvements with respect to the straightforward 1D approach. The algorithm has been experimented for coding still images as well as motion compensated sequences, showing interesting possibilities of application for very low bitrate video coding.

  • In this paper, a control method is presented to improve performance of haptic display on a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators. In displaying a virtual wall with the passive haptic device, an unstable behavior occurs with excessive actions of brakes due to the time delay mainly arising from the update rate of the virtual environment and force approximation originated from the characteristics of the passive actuators. The previous T.D.P.C. (Time Domain Passivity Control) method was not suitable for the passive haptic device, since a programmable damper used in the previously introduced T.D.P.C. method easily leads to undesirable behaviors. A new passivity control method is evaluated with considering characteristics of the passive device. First, we propose a control method which is designed under the analysis of the passive FME (Force Manipulability Ellipsoid). And then a passivity control scheme is applied to the proposed control method. Various experiments have been conducted to verify the proposed method with a 2-link mechanism.

  • The current paper proposes a new vertex selection scheme for polygon-based contour coding. To efficiently characterize the shape of an object, we incorporate the curvature information in addition to the conventional maximum distance criterion in vertex selection process. The proposed method consists of "two-step procedure." At first, contour pixels of high curvature value are selected as key vortices based on the curvature scale space (CSS), thereby dividing an overall contour into several contour-segments. Each segment is considered as an open contour whose end points are two consecutive key vortices and is processed independently. In the second step, vertices for each contour segment are selected using progressive vertex selection (PVS) method in order to obtain minimum number of vertices under the given maximum distance criterion ( $D_{max}$$^{*}$). Furthermore, the obtained vortices are adjusted using the dynamic programming (DP) technique to optimal positions in the error area sense. Experimental results are presented to compare the approximation performances of the proposed and conventional methods.imation performances of the proposed and conventional methods.

  • In a IS-95 cellular systm, blocking will occur when the reverse link user interference power reaches a predepermmed level which is set to maintam acceptable signal quality. In this paper, it is assumed that a mobile rdio channel is a shadowing channel and Erlang capacity is calculated for the reverse limk of an imperfect power controlled IS-95 cellular system. the blocking probability is derived using lognornal pproximation and the results according to guassian and lognormal approximation method are compared and analyzed respcctively. Assuming that blocking probability is 1% at the data rate of $R_b$=9.6kbps and $R_b$=14.4kbps, it is shown that Erlang capacity using Iognormal approximation is 13.68 Erlang and 7.08 Erlang and then the approximation erroris occurred about 24.4% and 40.4% inthe garssian approximation, respectively. It is also observed that if the power control becomes periect, the Erlang capacity is increased more 6.99 and 4.21 Erlang than that of the imperfect power control that the power contrl error is 2.5dB, and if voice activity is considered as 10%, the Erlang capacity is increased more 8.21 and 1.25 Erlang than that using non voice activity, respectively.

  • In the superconducting $Sr_2VO_3FeAs$, containing bimetallic layers, with maximum $T_c{\approx}\;46\;K$ correlation effects on V ions have been investigated using LDA+U method. Within the local density approximation (LDA) this system has the one-third filled $t_{2g}$ manifold of V, decomposed into $d_{xy}$ of bandwidth W=2 eV and nearly degenerate $d_{zx}d_{yz}$ of W=1 eV. Consideration of correlation effects leads to a metal-insulator transition on V ions $t^{2\uparrow}_{2g}\;{\rightarrow}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{xz}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{yz}$ at the critical on-site Coulomb repulsion $U_c$= 3.5 eV. At U=4 eV, the electronic structure, in which V ions are insulating, leads to several van Hove singularities near $E_F$ and similar Fermiology with other pnictides. Applying U to V ions results in increasing Fe moment as well as V moment, indicating somewhat hybridization between Fe and V ions even though this system is strongly 2-dimesional. Our results show possible importance of correlation effects on this system.
