  • It seems that the education of environment in a discipline of morality has not been systematically given in the middle school. In the Seventh Course of education, the aim of moral education for the middle school has no content concerning environment. And there is no chapter of environment in all the textbooks for the first, second and third grade in the middle school. The content of environment is largely introduced in order to explain a series of key content in the chapters of discussing 'personality', 'courtesy of neighborhood', 'conflict of value', 'civil morality' and so on. Even we can say that its descriptions are aimless, instrumental and secondary for education. Recently, it is no exaggeration to say that the education of environment is not effectively carried out in a discipline of morality of the middle school. In the 2007 revised course of education, there are some content of environment in the aim of morality and its education, and a chapter of "environment and Morality" is newly established. From now on, a new textbook of morality is being made according to the currently revised course of education. It will be gradually useful for the first grade in 2010, for the second grade in 2011, and for the third grade in 2012. It is possible to say that it will add momentum to effectively carrying out the education of environment as part of a discipline of morality in the middle school. Taking it into a detailed consideration, however, the education of environment in this revised course of education cannot help including a serious problem, either. This is because, a chapter of environment is included only in the first grade of middle school, and, according to a prescription of writing criterion established by the Ministry of Science and Technology, there can be no overlapping content for each grade. It will more likely that the education of environment will be given only in the first grade, not in the second and third grade at all. Therefore, it seems to me that, firstly, such a prescription established by the Ministry of Science and Technology will get free, and then the education of environment will be systematically given to the levels of the second and third grade.

  • Informatics curriculum has been revised for informatics principles and concepts to effectively teach. According to the revised curriculum, researches are verifying the educational effects of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving abilities using programming language by applying it to various area. However, researches in programming education considering the level of student are yet incomplete. This research has analyzed the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness. As results of difference of project completeness, a high perceived level of problem solving group's performance of project completeness was higher than a low perceived level of problem solving group's one. Analysis of the impact of the perceived level of problem solving on the performance of project completeness, 'problem finding' factor had a significant impact. This research suggested the importance of 'problem finding' and self-reflecting introspective 'reviewing' stages in problem solving process using programming language.abstract of your study in English. • The purpose of this study was to investigate how 'free inquiry' was implemented in middle school science classrooms. In order to do this, survey and interviews were administered. The subject of survey was 165 science teachers at 58 middle schools and interviewees were 4 teachers and 10 students. As a result, 49.6% of science teachers in school year 2010, and 34.1% in 2011 applied 'free inquiry'. Teachers applied 'free inquiry' during one semester, and they let the students select topic of 'free inquiry'. Teachers grouped students according to students' opinion or their gender and ability, and one group was consisted of 4 students. The effect of applying 'free inquiry' was that students improved the interest on science, science inquiry ability and self directed learning capability. Students were interested in doing 'free inquiry', and they wanted to do it again. Teachers claimed that it took much time and effort to apply 'free inquiry', and students lacked science inquiry skills and interest on science. The teachers who did not apply 'free inquiry' stated reasons such as the shortage of instructional time, and they didn't think that 'free inquiry' should be implemented. For the effective implementation of 'free inquiry', this study suggested that teachers should be recognized the intention of 'free inquiry', teaching-learning materials about 'free inquiry' be developed and provided, and laboratory assistants be employed.

  • The national mathematics curriculum revised in 2007 emphasized students' mathematical communication and the curriculum is currently applied to all grades. In order to promote students' mathematical communication, the teacher needs to understand full implications and apply them to instruction. This study examined how teachers employed mathematical communication in their instruction and how they perceived it. The results showed that teachers had lack of understanding of student-centered instruction and mathematical communication. They also did not use various representation activities and discussion-based activities as expected. The number of students per classroom was reported by teachers as a main barrier to promote mathematical communication, but it did not make substantial differences in practice. Building on the results, this paper included implications for improving teachers' conception of mathematical communication.

  • The mathematics curriculum revised in 2007 includes 'problem fabrication'. So it is necessary to analyse the texts how much they include problem fabrication. In mathematics, problem fabrication and problem solving interact and stimulate each other. Also the main purpose of problem fabrication is to improve the students' problem solving. There are 16 different texts of grade 7 algebra which contain problems concerning 'problem fabrication'. We count the number of such problems in each sections. Also we divide problem fabrication into five types. Then we count the number of problems in each type and its frequencies in a section.

  • Developing textbook evaluation criterion is as important as textbook development in education. Home economics subject has been involved in textbook evaluation since 1995, at which the first home economics textbook was under the national authorization system in South Korea. There has been little research on home economics textbook evaluation criterion even though there were more studies using textbook analysis. The purposes of this study were to explore the reason why subject perspectives were reflected on the textbook evaluation criterion, the relationships between the perspectives presented by national curriculum and technology home economics textbook evaluation criterion, and the future direction for developing textbook evaluation criterion. So this study was related to analyze practical arts(technology home economics) textbook evaluation criterion and the meaning of subject perspectives in textbook evaluation criterion, to drive perspectives consistently presented by the 2007 revised and 2011 revised national curriculum, to analyze the relationships between the perspectives in national curriculum and textbook evaluation criterion, and to provide the future direction for textbook evaluation criterion development. Textbook evaluation criterion is very important because it provides subject perspectives for developing textbook, delivers the core concepts and unique values of our subject, and provides the direction for teacher education. According to the analysis of both national curriculum, the perspectives such as management competency, life competency, practical experience, integrative competency for understanding individual and family, career and life planning, and life problem-solving were presented in this study. Implication for future research would be needed to develop the factors of textbook evaluation criterion based on the perspective presented by national curriculum.

  • In a EFL situation, most Korean students and teachers are exclusively dependent on English textbooks to acquire the cultural factors of English. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze cultural elements in the English Textbooks. The results of the study are as follows: First, although all of the textbooks contain the culture part at the end of each lesson, it is insufficient for students to build a cultural schema. Second, in the analysis of cultural types, three types of cultures are presented in a similar percentage. Third, the culture elements were analyzed based on the 7th national curriculum revised in 2011. The most dominant is the culture regarding arts and literature. Forth, in nationality analysis, universal culture takes up the largest portion. Therefore, it is required more efforts to improve students' knowledge of the American and English culture.

  • This study analyzed the visual images covering 'the changes of weather' in elementary science textbooks by 2007 curriculum revision from a perspective of linguistics. The findings showed that there were inclined to increasing in terms of ideational and textual metafunctions. It meant that the informative images were increased and the form of images became more abstractive. It also showed an increase in terms of interpersonal metafunctions. It was interpreted as decreasing the ratios of images inducing epistemological detachments and increasing images help familiarity and involvement between images and readers. These results showed that the visual images of 'the changes of weather' in 2007 revised elementary science textbook were professionally, technical, and abstractive in terms of the contents and formality. And these trends of images were complemented by the involvement and familiarity of images in the aspect of interpersonal metafunctions.

  • This study was designed to analyze instructors's perceptions on legislation of the amendments of the Higher Education Law in 2011 and discuss some issues related to direction for revision henceforth. This study explored two research questions. First, how do instructors perceive the legislation of the amendments of Higher Education Law? Second, how do they think the directions for the revision of the law? To complete this task, the author conducted in-depth interviews with 16 interviewees; 13 instructors and 3 specialists of the higher education. As a result of in-depth interviews, the author found that instructors perceive the law as condescending law or election-based law even though they recognize the significance of the law. They predict that the law can increase non-tenure track faculty members. In addition, they emphasize the law should be revised to improve the instructors' labor condition substantially, for instance increase of the teaching pay and employment stabilization. However, instructors' opinions on the law itself and its revision direction are divided according to their age and major. Based on the results of this study, I discussed some potential issues of the revision of the law and suggested improvement plans.
