  • This study was conducted in order to investigate body awareness and dietary life according to gender. Subjects of the study were 120 men and 127 women aged 20 to 30 years, who exercise regularly at a fitness center in Seoul. The subjects were asked to fill out a questionnaire on body awareness, reason for regular exercise, dietary behaviors, and nutrition knowledge. The percentage of overweight and obesity was 69.2% in men, and 25.2% in women. The percentage of subjects who considered themselves as overweight was 38.3% in men and 59.8% in women. Intake of protein in men was higher than the recommended nutrient intake (RNI). Intake of energy in women was lower than the estimated energy requirement (EER). Men who considered themselves as overweight showed lower energy intake than men who considered their body weight as under and normal, whereas no difference in energy intake was observed between women who considered themselves as overweight and women who considered their body weight as under and normal.

  • In Korea, with a dramatic growth of Super Supermarket (SSM) in the wake of opening up the retail market and diversifying distribution, the consumer's purchase behavior about food and consumer goods changed. In order to investigate this change, this study was carried out through collecting and analyzing questionnaires from 190 men and women consumers at ages between twenties and sixties, living in Ulsan and Pusan. The result suggested that in overall features, men were mainly affected by design factors such as packaging design, color, and product design, whereas women were mainly affected by cost factors such as price and configuration. As for product properties, it was suggested that women put importance on the price concerning ail products, but men didn't. In addition, it was identified that women were impressed by advertisements on TV, and men and women both often purchased the product after confirming its information among the displayed products. Considering these results, we concluded that for a product whose main target is men in particular, the product development should focus on design. Moreover, as the packaging design and display affect on both men and women as important factors, hereafter a complementary study on the effects of the packaging design and display of manufacturers related to the products in this study is to be proceeded with greater interest.

  • Objectives: In the past, latent dreams were emphasized in the psychiatric field, but these days the interest in manifest dreams is increasing as ego psychology develops. Hall and Nordby proposed that there are similarities between manifest dreams and real life. The Hall/Van de Castle System is a method of dream content analysis, which considers both the quantitive and qualitive analytic aspects of manifest dreams. Methods: The dreams of 232 males and females (M:F=127:105;mean age=21.02.7) were collected through the Most Recent Dream Method. Collected data were analyzed using the Hall/Van de Castle System. Results: Female subjects tended to be more detailed and meticulous in reporting their dreams. The dreams of male subjects showed a higher percentage in self-negativity (2=6.64, df=1, p=0.004), and the dreams of female subjects showed a higher percentage in group character (2=6.64, df=1, p=0.0099), dreamer-involved success (2=3.12, df=1, p=0.048), and good fortune (2=4.52, df=1, p=0.034). Conclusion: This study suggests the norm of dream content of Korean college students, and it presents the differences between Korean males and females, and between Korean college students and American college students. This study may contribute to further studies on dream content analysis.

  • In order to examine cause-specific mortality in Korea by comparing mortality of Japan, various mortality indicators are calculated using 1995 of ficial statistics of twonations. The mortality measures are cause-specific mortality rate by sex, age, andmarital status, cause-specific age-standardized death rate and potential years of lifelost, and their ratios by sex and nation. Items of major causes of death include allcauses (total deaths),tuberculosis, malignant neoplasm, diabetes mellitushypertensive diseases, heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, liver diseasestransport accidents, and suicide. Major characteristics of mortality in Korea are asfollows . (1) Death rates from most causes except suicide are higher in Korea thanJapan and especially death rates from tuberculosis, hypertensive diseases, liverdiseases, and transport accidents are higher for economically active Koreans : (2)Death rates from tuberculosis, liver diseases, transport accidents, and malignantneoplasm are salient for Korean children (3) Sex-differentials in mortality fromliver diseases, tuberculosis , and transport accidents are large for economically activeKoreans, because male mortality is higher than female mortality : (4) Suicide ratesare lower for economically active males, and higher for females aged 10s and 20s inKorea than Japan : (5) Death rates are highest f3r divorced or widowed under 45years of age depending on causes, but death rates from all causes are highest fornever-married of the age 45 and over in Korea : and (6) Sex-differentials inmortality are greatest for widowed in Korea and for divorced in Japan.

  • This study examined the contribution of the risk factors that cause cardiovascular disease in Koreans. The subjects were 20,012 adults aged 30~74 years who were enrolled from the 2005~2013 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, had filled the risk factors data, and had no cardiovascular disease history. Data analysis was conducted using SAS 9.3, and a weighted composite sample design analysis was performed. The contribution was obtained by applying a squared semi-partial correlation. As a result, they were higher in the order of age (63.9%), smoking (17.3%), systolic blood pressure (7.9%), diabetes (6.9%), antihypertensive medication use (3.0%), and BMI (0.9%) in men. In women, the contributions were in the order of age (54.1%), systolic blood pressure (23.5%), diabetes (13.6%), antihypertensive medication use (5.1%), smoking (3.1%), and BMI (0.6%%). According to age bracket analysis, smoking (51.8~33.7%) was the biggest risk factor, followed in order by age (26.6%) in their 30s and systolic blood pressure (17.3~21.0%) in those older than 40 years in men. In women, the systolic blood pressure (56.2~40.5%) was the main contributor to the risk factors, followed by age (24.0%) in their 30s and diabetes (13.6~32.6%) in those older than 40 years. The contribution of the income level was similar. Therefore, to prevent cardiovascular disease, various programs that reflect the contributions of the risk factors should be developed. Moreover, it is recommended to use the results shown in this study as basic data.

  • This paper identified the values and awareness of Koreans in 20s regarding Hanbok, the traditional clothing of Korea, and proposed an approach to promote the traditional clothing culture. The subject of the survey were male and female Koreans in their 20s who wear modern street clothes in places people frequently visit including in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong-do as well as those who wear Hanbok in Seoul and Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do. In accordance with the analysis of the survey, Koreans in their 20s rented Hanok rather than buying it. The respondents wore Hanbok for events, festivals or national holidays or while travelling. Elements to improve in Hanbok rental services were designs, materials, washing and stains. The decision factors for renting Hanbok were 'personal tendency' and 'advice from an expert.' While Koreans in their 20s had a positive awareness of Hanbok, they thought it was difficult to buy, rent and put on Hanbok and that it was not comfortable to wear. There was not sufficient opportunity and means to wear Hanbok due to insufficient accessories or shoes to match. On the basis of the analysis of the survey results, the following approach was proposed for the development of the traditional clothing culture. First of all, develop traditional clothing designers who can satisfy the personalities of Koreans in their 20s. It is necessary to develop experience-focused and participatory programs that provide systematic education regarding traditional clothing to pass down this tradition. In addition, it is necessary to create a social and cultural atmosphere that enables the Koreans in their 20s to easily wear Hanbok by popularizing Hanbok.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of brand familiarity and brand recognition on the acceptance of 10 commercial Korean rice wines (yakju). For the consumer preference testing, 104 rice wine drinkers (males, 56; female, 48) from their 20's to 40's were recruited. Consumers first rated the preferences and purchasing intent of the samples without accompanying information about each sample. During a break, brand familiarities and demographics were surveyed. The consumers then rated the preferences and purchasing intent with information about each sample. An analysis of variance was constructed to evaluate the effect of gender, age, and samples on the liking and purchasing intent of the rice wine products. Significant differences were observed for the likings and purchasing intents among the 10 samples with and without brand information, respectively. A paired t-test was performed to evaluate the effect of brand recognition between with and without brand information. A significant effect of brand recognition was confirmed, particularly for the samples with higher levels of brand familiarity. Internal preference mapping was performed to understand the overall relationships between each consumer's liking of the 10 samples with and without brand information. Acceptance tended to shift toward more familiar products when the information was presented.

  • We evaluated the contour using corneal asphericity of the myopic cornea in Korea and investigated the relationship between refractive error and other ocular dimensions in Korean myopia, including anterior chamber depth and asphericity. The monoocular asphericity value of 50 myopes with $-4.83{\pm}2.38$ D between early 20 age and early 30 age in adult was included. Cycloplegic refraction, corneal asphericity and anterior chamber depth using corneal topography were examined. The mean asphericity values were$-0.27{\pm}0.13$ and the corneas of 96.0% were prolate ellipse. Refractive error was related to asphericity and anterior chamber depth among myopes. However, asphericity only were significant difference in high and low myopia group. Corneal configuration on the contact lens fits are discussed. We think that the longitudinal study for myopia and asphericity was required.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating effect of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness on the relationship between covert narcissistic tendency of adults in their twenties and the satisfaction of interpersonal relations. Methods: 194 male and female adults in their twenties completed the self-report questionnaires on covert narcissism, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and interpersonal satisfaction. A mediated model was tested using the SPSS Macro by Hayes. Results: We verified that the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness played a mediating role in the relationship between covert narcissistic tendency and interpersonal satisfaction. In terms of the characteristics of relationship, except for the superior person, the relationship between lover/spouse and friends/colleagues showed the mediating effect between covert narcissism and interpersonal satisfaction. Conclusions: The covert narcissistic tendency itself affects low interpersonal satisfaction, but the ambivalence over emotional expressiveness affects low interpersonal satisfaction when the covert narcissist interacts with lover/spouse, friends/colleagues. We discussed the directions of intervention for the covert narcissist having low satisfaction in relationships, limitations and future suggestions of this research.
