  • A majority of industrial robots are controlled by a simple joint servo control of joint actuators. In this type of control, the performance of control is greatly influenced by the joint interaction torques including Coriolis and centrifugal forces, which act as disturbance torques to the control system. As the speed of the robot increases, the effect of this disturbance torque increases, and hence makes the high speed - high precision control more difficult to achieve. In this paper, the joint disturbance torque of robots is analyzed. The joint disturbance torque is defined using the coefficients of dynamic equation of motion, and for the case of a 2 DOF planar robot, the conditions for the minimum and maximum joint disturbance torques are identified, and the effect of link parameters and joint variables on the joint disturbance torque are examined. Then, a solution to the optimal path placement problem is propose that minimizes the joint disturbance torque during a straight line motion. The proposed method is illustrated using computer simulation. The proposed solution method can be applied to a class of robots that are controlled by independent joint servo control, which includes the vast majority of industrial robots.

  • As the demand for the design of modular manipulators or special purpose manipulators has increased, task based design to design an optimal manipulator for a given task become more and more important. However, the complexity with a large number of design parameters, and highly nonlinear and implicit functions are characteristics of a general manipulator design. To achieve the goal of task based design, it is necessary to develop a methodology to solve the complexity. This paper addresses how to determine the kinematic parameters of a two-degrees of freedom manipulator with parallelogram five-bar link mechanism from a given task, namely, how to map a given task into the kinematic parameters. With simplified example of designing a manipulator with five-bar link mechanism, the methodology for task based design is presented. And it introduces formulations of a given task and manipulator specifications, and presents a new dexterity measure for manipulator design. Also the optimization problem with constraints is solved by using a genetic algorithm that provides robust search in complex spaces.

  • A torque transmission system composed of several gears and couplings is flexible. In order to get an exact response of motor, the torsional vibration due to an unexpected change of motor speed must be suppressed. Therefore, it is very important that motor control suppress vibration. Various methods to control it including dual inertia system are proposed. Specially, the method of vibration suppression is that vibration can be suppressed to fee㏈ack the estimated torsion torque via the disturbance observer filter being of normal filter. The suitable Proportional controller and coefficient parameter can be designed using CDM and the torsional vibration also be suppressed, but it has a low degree of adaptability to disturbance. The PID controller can be designed easily, but makes the excessive overshoot and oscillation for system response in the early period. To resolve these problems, simple and practical PID controller with two degree of freedom is proposed recently that it ran improve performance of obeying the reference unconcerned in any disturbance by changing the proportional gain by two degree of freedom parameter. But it has also the defect that parameter a must be changed to obtain the ideal Proportional parameter. On this paper, we design the controller which automatically adjusts parameter u using fuzzy Algorithm to overcome such defects. Also, we compare the proposed method with established one and evaluate them to confirm performance of the designed controller.

  • The spatial aggregation of data, in transportation and other planning processes, is an important theoretical consideration because the results of any analysis are not entirely independent of the delineation of zones. Moreover, using a different spatial aggregation may lead to different, and sometimes contradictory conclusions. Two criteria have been considered as important in designing zone systems. They are scale and aggregation. The scale problem arises because of uncertainty about the number of zones needed for a study and the aggregation problem arises because of uncertainty about how the data are to be aggregated to from a given scale problem. In a transportation study, especially in the design of traffic analysis zone(TAZ), the scale problem is directly related to the number dof zones and the aggregation problem involves spatial clustering, meeting the general requirements of forming the zones system such as equal traffic generation, convexity, and the consistency with the political boundary. In this study, first, the comparative study of delineating spatial units has been given. Second, a FORTRAN-based heuristic algorithm for designing TAZ based on socio-economic data has been developed and applied to the Korean peninsula containing 132 micro parcels. The vector type ARC/INFO GIS topological data mosel has been used to provise the adjacency information between parcels. The results, however, leave some to be desired in order to overcome such problems as non-convexity of the agglomerated TAZ system and/or uneven traffic phenomenon for each TAZ.

  • A Mobile manipulator - a serial connection of a mobile robot and a task robot - is a very useful system to achieve various tasks in dangerous environment. because it has the higher performance than a fixed base manipulator in regard to the size of it's operational workspace. Unfortunately the use of a mobile robot introduces non-holonomic constraints, and the combination of a mobile robot and a manipulator generally introduces kinematic redundancy. In this paper, first a method for estimating the position of object at the cartesian coordinate system acquired by using the geometrical relationship between the image captured by 2-DOF active camera mounted on mobile robot and real object is proposed. Second, we propose a method to determine a optimal path between current the position of mobile manipulator whose mobile robot is non-holonomic and the position of object estimated by image information through the global displacement of the system in a symbolic way, using homogenous matrices. Then, we compute the corresponding joint parameters to make the desired displacement coincide with the computed symbolic displacement and object is captured through the control of a manipulator. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by the simulation and real experiment using the mobile manipulator.

  • As avionics and mechanical devices have been developed, the size of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is getting smaller. However, the complicated and accurate missions are provided to the UAV. Among various types of UAVs, quadrotors are widely used for their availability by virtue of simple structure and hovering function. However, the control of quadrotor is highly constrained, because the quadrotor is an under-actuated system which has only 4 actuator inputs. To deal with this under-actuated problem, a new quadrotor model with two more actuators in addition to the 4 propeller inputs is provided to make the system fully-actuated. For the proposed model, a controller is designed using feedback linearization methods. To validate the model and to verify the performance of the proposed controller, numerical simulation is performed.

  • Reconfigurable flight control using various kinds of adaptive control methods has been studied since the 1970s to enhance the survivability of aircraft in case of severe in-flight failure. Early studies were mainly focused on the failure of actuators. Recently, studies of reconfigurable flight controls that can accommodate complex damage (partial wing and tail loss) in conventional aircraft were reported. However, the partial wing loss effects on the aerodynamics of conventional type aircraft are quite different to those of BWB(blended wing body) aircraft. In this paper, a reconfigurable flight control algorithm was designed using a direct model reference adaptive method to overcome the instability caused by a complex damage of a BWB aircraft. A model reference adaptive control was incorporated into the inner loop rate control system enhancing the performance of the baseline control to cope with abrupt loss of stability. Gains of the model reference adaptive control were polled out using the Liapunov's stability theorem. Outer loop attitude autopilot was designed to manage roll and pitch of the BWB UAV as well. A 6-DOF dynamic model was built-up, where the normal flight can be made to switch to the damaged state abruptly reflecting the possible real flight situation. 22% of right wing loss as well as 25% loss for both vertical tail and rudder control surface were considered in this study. Static aerodynamic coefficients were obtained via wind tunnel test. Numerical simulations were conducted to demonstrate the performance of the reconfigurable flight control system.

  • This study presents a model to minimize vibration and noise of powertrain mount on a compact car which has the application of Stop & Go performance, in order to reduce CO2 and achieve better fuel-efficiency in accordance with the environmental regulations in automotive industries. In the first step, we analyze the powertrain mount system of the automobile "A" and present variables about rubber stiffness applied on powertrain mount using the Taguchi method. In the next step, we verify the optimization of vibration and noise which meet Stop & Go performance using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method on the proto products for each variable. Using this validation system on the initial stage of the powertrain mount design, it is expected that we can grasp vibration and noise problems caused by engine movements and control them effectively without engineering know-how about powertrain mount rubber stiffness.

  • This paper describes a novel navigation algorithm using a locomotion interface with two 6-DOF programmable foot platforms. When a human walks on the locomotion interface (LI), the walking motions of the human are recognized by several sensors. Then, the sensed information is used by the LI for generation of infinite surfaces for continuous walking and the virtual environments for scene update according to motions of the human walking. The suggested novel navigation system can induce user's real walking and generate realistic visual feedback during navigation. A novel navigation algorithm is suggested to allow natural navigation in virtual environments by utilizing conditions of normal gait analysis. For realistic visual feedback, the virtual environment is designed with three components; 3D object modeler for buildings and terrains, scene manager and communication manager component. From experiments, the subjects were satisfied with the reality of the suggested navigation algorithm using the locomotion interface. Therefore, the suggested navigation system can allow a user to explore into various virtual terrains with real walking and realistic visual feedback.

  • The purpose of the present study is to examine the dynamic interaction characteristics between moving maglev vehicle and guideway bridge system. For this purpose, the dynamic governing equation of 2-dof maglev vehicle using optimal feedback control scheme of LQG was derived with or without consideration of the dynamic interaction between vehicle and guideway bridge system. From the parametric study, it was found that the dynamic interaction effect between bridge and vehicle was large in case of neglecting the railway roughness effect. But if the railway roughness effect was considered, it was observed two analysis results with or without consideration of the dynamic interaction did not show big difference. As a conclusion, it is required to take into account the dynamic interaction effect of bridge and maglev vehicle and the railway roughness for precise evaluation of runnability of maglev vehicle and impact factor of guideway.
