The degree of relative similarity between 2D patterns is obtained using Open-Ball Scheme. Open-Ball Scheme employs a method of transforming the geometrical information on 3D objects or 2D patterns into the features to measure the relative similarity for object(patten) recognition, with invariance on scale, rotation, and translation. The feature of an object is used to obtain the relative similarity and mapped into [0, 1] the interval of real line. For decades, Moment-Invariant Method has been used as one of the excellent methods for pattern classification and object recognition. Open-Ball Scheme uses the geometrical structure of patterns while Moment Invariant Method uses the statistical characteristics. Open-Ball Scheme is compared to Moment Invariant Method with respect to the way that it interprets two-dimensional patten classification, especially the paradigms are compared by the degree of closeness to human's intuitive understanding. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed Open-Ball Scheme is illustrated through simulations.
A detection system was set up to measure the neutron generation rate of a recently developed D-D neutron generator. The system is composed of a Si detector, He-3 detector, and electronics for pulse height analysis. The neutron generation rate was measured by counting protons using the Si detector, and the data was crosschecked by counting neutrons with the He-3 detector. The efficiencies of the Si and He-3 detectors were calibrated independently by using a standard alpha particle source $^{241}Am$ and a bare isotopic neutron source $^{252}Cf$, respectively. The effect of the cross-sectional difference between the D(d,p)T and $D(d,n)^3He$ reactions was evaluated for the case of a thick target. The neutron generation rate was theoretically corrected for the anisotropic emission of protons and neutrons in the D-D reactions. The attenuations of neutron on the path to the He-3 detector by the target assembly and vacuum flange of the neutron generator were considered by the Monte Carlo method using the MCNP 4C2 code. As a result, the neutron generation rate based on the Si detector measurement was determined with a relative uncertainty of ${\pm}5%$, and the two rates measured by both detectors corroborated within 20%.
The purpose of this study was to suggest torso patterns that fit the three main body shapes of elderly obese women. To reduce time, costs, and also the trial and error needed to make patterns, the CLO program for 3D test wear was employed. Three virtual models for aged obese women were use, with the YUKA system used to produce torso patterns. 3D simulation of test wear and corrections was done to design optimal torso patterns. The results were as follows: First, for the three models of obese women's body shapes as realized by CLO 3D, Type 1 is lower-body obesity shapes, Type 2 is abdominal obesity shapes, and Type 3 is whole-body obesity shapes. Second, to design the study patterns, actual measurement values, back waist length and waist to hip length, were used. The armhole depth (B/4-1.5), front interscye (B/6+2.3), front neck width (B/12-0.5), front neck depth (B/12+0.5), front waist measurement (W/4+ 1.5+D), front hip measurement (H/4+2+0.5), and back hip measurement (H/4+3-0.5) were calculated using formulas. Third, according to the results of test-wearing the study patterns, reduced front neck width and depth improved the neck fit and reduced armhole depth bettered loose or plunging armhole girth and also reduced the sagging of bust c.. Also, tight sidesfrom aprotruded waist and abdomen improved with the increase of surpluses in the back waist and also back and front hip c. The exterior was enhanced by displacement of back and front darts, which distributed surpluses better.
Recently, popularity of 3D technology has been growing significantly and it has many application parts in the various fields of industry. In order to overcome the limitations of 2D machine vision technologies based on 2D image, we need the 3D measurement technologies. There are many 3D measurement methods as such scanning probe microscope, phase shifting interferometry, confocal scanning microscope, white-light scanning interferometry, and so on. In this paper, we have used the extended depth of focus (EDF) algorithm among 3D measurement methods. The EDF algorithm is the method which extracts the 3D information from 2D images acquired by short range depth camera. In this paper, we propose the EDF algorithm using the edge informations of images and the average values of all pixel on z-axis to improve the performance of conventional method. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we use the various synthetic images made by point spread function(PSF) algorithm. We can correctly make a comparison between the performance of proposed method and conventional one because the depth information of these synthetic images was known. Through the experimental results, the PSNR of the proposed algorithm was improved about 1 ~ 30 dB than conventional method.
As modern electronic devices get smaller and smaller, high-resolution, large Field-Of-View (FOV), fast, and cost-effective 3-dimensional (3-D) measurement is requested more and more. In particular, defect inspection machines using machine-vision technology nowadays require 3-D inspection as well as the conventional 2-D inspection. Phase Measuring Profilometry (PMP) is one of the fast non-contact 3-D shape measuring methods currently being extensively investigated in the electronic component manufacturing industry. The PMP system is well known and is successfully applied to measuring complex surface profiles with varying reflectance properties. However, for highly reflective surfaces, such as Ball Grid Arrays (BGAs), it has difficulty accurately measuring 3-D shapes. In this paper, we propose a new fast optical system that can eliminate the highly reflective saturated regions in BGA ball images. This is achieved by utilizing four Low Intensity Grating (LIG) images together with the conventional High Intensity Grating (HIG) images. Extensive experiments using BGA samples show a repeatability of under ${\pm}20um$ in standard deviation, which is suitable for most 3-D shape measurements of BGAs.
Human appearance analysis is an important part of both eastern and western medicine fields, such as Sasang constitutional medicine, rehabilitation medicine, dental medicine, and etc. By the rapid growing of depth camera technology, 3D measuring becomes popular in many applications including medical area. In this study, the possibility of using depth cameras in asymmetry analysis of human appearance is examined. We introduce the development of 3D measurement system using 2 Microsoft Kinect depth cameras and fully automated asymmetry analysis algorithms based on computer vision technology. We compare the proposed automated method to the manual method, which is usually used in asymmetry analysis. As a measure of repeatability, standard deviations of asymmetry indices are examined by 10 times repeated experiments. Experimental results show that the standard deviation of the automated method (1.00mm for face, 1.22mm for body) is better than that of the manual method (2.06mm for face, 3.44mm for body) for the same 3D measurement. We conclude that the automated method using depth cameras can be successfully applicable to practical asymmetry analysis and contribute to reliable human appearance analysis.
Inspection of BGAs presents several challenges for modem measurement equipment. No only must these systems be fast and accurate, they must deal with the special challenges presented by very small shiny metal spheres. For accurate measurement, we propose an algorithm which fits for estimating the accurate ball height using 2-D curve-fitting algorithm. The real boundary between two adjacent pixels and the real ball diameter are measured with subpixel accuracy Experimental results show that the proposed method calculates the ball height and diameter with subpixel accuracy and is robust in local noise with low measurement error.
Modern distance sensing methods employ various measurement principles, including triangulation, time-of-flight, confocal, interferometric and frequency comb. Among them, the triangulation method, with a laser light source and an image sensor, is widely used in low-cost applications. We developed an omnidirectional two-dimensional (2D) distance sensor based on the triangulation principle for indoor floor mapping applications. The sensor has a range of 150-1500 mm with a relative resolution better than 4% over the range and 1% at 1 meter distance. It rotationally scans a compact one-dimensional (1D) distance sensor, composed of a near infrared (NIR) laser diode, a folding mirror, an imaging lens, and an image detector. We designed the sensor layout and configuration to satisfy the required measurement range and resolution, selecting easily available components in a special effort to reduce cost. We built a prototype and tested it with seven representative indoor wall specimens (white wallpaper, gray wallpaper, black wallpaper, furniture wood, black leather, brown leather, and white plastic) in a typical indoor illuminated condition, 200 lux, on a floor under ceiling mounted fluorescent lamps. We confirmed the proposed sensor provided reliable distance reading of all the specimens over the required measurement range (150-1500 mm) with a measurement resolution of 4% overall and 1% at 1 meter, regardless of illumination conditions.
With the expansion of domestic hydrogen fuelling station infrastructure, it is necessary to secure reliability among hydrogen traders, and for this, technology to accurately measure hydrogen is important. In this study, 4 types of hydrogen trading volume calculation models (model 1-4) were presented to improve the accuracy of the hydrogen trading volume. In order to obtain the reference value of model 4, and experiment was conducted using a flow rate measurement equipment, and the error rate of the calculated value for each model was compared and analyzed. As a result, model 1 had the lowest metering accuracy, model 2 had the second highest metering accuracy and model 3 had the highest metering accuracy until a certain point. But after the point, model 2 had the highest metering accuracy and model 3 had the second metering accuracy.
