IMPROVEMENT OF I-PICTURE CODING USING INTER-PICTURE PROCESSING

  • An improvement of standard encoder has been saturated recently. However, new coding method does not have a compatibility with conventional standard. To solve this problem, new concept coding method that has a semicompatibility with standard may be discussed. On the other hand, cyclic Intra-picture coding is used for access and refreshment. However, I-picture spend large amount of bits. An enhancement of I-picture is desired with keeping its refreshment performance. Further, it's a problem that quality change at the border of GOP because of its independency. To respond these, we propose the coding which is applied an inter-frame processing at the border of GOP. Applied method is the reduction of quantization error using the motion compensated inter-picture processing. In this report, we check the improvement of the efficiency and the compatibility of proposed method. As a result of examination, we recognize that the total gain is maximally 1.2dB in PSNR. Generally, the degradation of performance in standard decoding is smaller than its gain. Also the refreshment performance is tested.

An Early Termination Algorithm of Prediction Unit (PU) Search for Fast HEVC Encoding (HEVC 고속 부호화를 위한 PU 탐색 조기 종료 기법)

  • The latest video coding standard, high efficiency video coding (HEVC) achieves high coding efficiency by employing a quadtree-based coding unit (CU) block partitioning structure which allows recursive splitting into four equally sized blocks. At each depth level, each CU is partitioned into variable sized blocks of prediction units (PUs). However, the determination of the best CU partition for each coding tree unit (CTU) and the best PU mode for each CU causes a dramatic increase in computational complexity. To reduce such computational complexity, we propose a fast PU decision algorithm that early terminates PU search. The proposed method skips the computation of R-D cost for certain PU modes in the current CU based on the best mode and the rate-distortion (RD) cost of the upper depth CU. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the computational complexity of HM12.0 to 18.1% with only 0.2% increases in BD-rate.

  • In this paper, a new codebook design algorithm is proposed. It uses a DCT map based on two-dimensional discrete cosine of transform (2D DCT) and finite state vector quantizer (FSVQ) when the vector quantizer is designed for image transmission. We make the map by dividing input image according to edge quantity, then by the map, the significant features of training image are extracted by using the 2D DCT. A master codebook of FSVQ is generated by partitioning the training set using binary tree based on tree-structure. The state codebook is constructed from the master codebook, and then the index of input image is searched at not master codebook but state codebook. And, because the coding of index is important part for high speed digital transmission, it converts fixed length codes to variable length codes in terms of entropy coding rule. The huffman coding assigns transmission codes to codes of codebook. This paper proposes single-side growing huffman tree to speed up huffman code generation process of huffman tree. Compared with the pairwise nearest neighbor (PNN) and classified VQ (CVQ) algorithm, about Einstein and Bridge image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality with 2.04 dB and 2.48 dB differences as to PNN, 1.75 dB and 0.99 dB differences as to CVQ respectively.

  • Point Cloud which is a cluster of numerous points can express 3D object beyond the 2D plane. Each point contains 3D coordinate and color data basically, reflectance or etc. additionally. Point Cloud demand research and development much higher effective compression technology. Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) technology in development and standardization based on the established video codec. Despite its high effective compression technology, point cloud service will be limited by terminal spec and network conditions. 2D video had the same problems. To remedy this kind of problem, 2D video is using Scalable High efficiency Video Coding (SHVC), Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) or diverse technology. This paper proposed a density scalability method using SHVC codec in V-PCC.

  • In this paper, a trellis-coded 3-dimensional (3-D) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is presented and its performance is analyzed. Here, a set-partitioning technique for trellis coding with respect to a 3-D signal constellation is also presented. We show theoretically that the proposed system, which exploits a trellis coding scheme with recursive systematic convolutional codes (RSC) of code rate R = 1/3 and 2/3, can improve symbol error rate (SER) up to 7.8 dB as compared with the uncoded OFDM system in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Computer simulation confirms that the theoretical analysis of the proposed system is very accurate. It is, therefore, considered that the proposed trellis-coded 3-D OFDM system is well suited for the high quality digital transmission system without increase in the available bandwidth.

  • We compared CS-ACELP with QCELP speech coder in CDMA cellular under channel error environment and experimented performance with its measured value under channel error environment. Also, we specified the effective coding scheme to overcome. CS-ACELP speech coder using a LSP vector quantizer shows transparent speech quality from the results that SD is 0.92dB and outlier frames over 2dB is 2.9% in the BER 0.10% condition. CS-ACELP speech coder which is utilizing MA predictor shows better results on SVR and SEGSNR than QCELP speech coder(IS-96) adopting DPCM type predictor when bit error occurs from BER 0.01% to 0.50%.

Complete Mitochondrial Genome Sequence and Genetic Diversity of Duroc Breed (돼지 Duroc 품종에서 미토콘드리아 유전체 서열의 특성과 집단의 유전적 다양성)

  • Duroc is widely used to improve the meat quality and productivity. To elucidate the phylogenetic relation and the sequence specificity for the maternal property, the complete sequence of mitochondrial genome was determined and the population diversity of Duroc was investigated in this study. The length of mtDNA tested is 16,584-bp. There are several insertion/deletion mutations in the control region and coding regions for tRNA and rRNA, respectively, but not in peptide-coding regions. Four peptide-coding genes(COⅡ, COⅢ, ND3 and ND4) showed incomplete termination codon sequences such as T--, and two(ND2 and ND4L) did alternative initiation codons(AIC), respectively. Especially, the initiation codon sequences of ND2 gene were polymorphic in this population. Polymorphisms were detected in 11-bp duplication motif within control region as well as ND2 and CYTB. Variation patterns observed from the tests on three mtDNA regions were linked completely and then two haplotypes obtained from combining the data dividing this population. Duroc mtDNA is observed at the European pig cluster in the phylogenetic tree, however, the results from the population analyses supported previous opinions. This study suggests that the breed Duroc was mainly originated from the European pig lineage, and Asian lineage was also used to form the pig breed Duroc as maternal progenitors.

The Study of Hierarchical Transmission Method for Additional Service of Advanced T-DMB (차세대 T-DMB 방송의 부가서비스 제공을 위한 계층적 전송방식에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed advanced T-DMB system which is based on Eureka-147 using UEP coding methods and hiererchical modulation for providing additional services while maintaining BER performance. We simulated the proposed advanced T-DMB system using unequal l6QAM modulation scheme combined with various bit split methods and coding methods such as double binary turbo code of DVB-RCS standard and LDPC code of DVB-S2 standard. In the simulation results, double binary turbo code and LDPC code of proposed advanced T-DMB system have coding gain of 2dB and 3.5dB compared to conventional T-DMB system respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive trellis-coded Multiple Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(ATCMQAM) applying MQAM as the modulation scheme in the conventional ATCMPSK (Adaptive trellis-Coded Multiple Phase Shift Keying) for slowly varying Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed system adaptively controls the coding rate combined with modulation level of pragmatic approach to trellis-coded modulation according to the instantaneous fading channel conditions, and employs MQAM as modulation scheme.Results by computer simulation show that the proposed adaptive model using MQAM can realize higher quality transmission with the improvement more than 0.5 ~ 1bit in average bit rate. And there is a coding gain of 2-5dB, depending on the high SNR value, compared with the conventional adaptive model employing MPSK.

  • TV technology started from black and white TV. Color TV invented and users request more realistic TV technology. The next technology is 3DTV. For 3DTV, 3D display technology, 3D coding technology, digital mux/demux technology in broadcast and 3D video acquisition are needed. Moreover, Almost every contents now exist are 2D contents. It causes necessity to convert from 2D to 3D. This article describes 2D/3D conversion algorithm and H/W platform on FPGA board. Time difference makes 3D effect and convolution filter increased the effect. Distorted image and original image give 3D effect. The algorithm is shown on 3D display. The display device shows 3D effect by parallax barrier method and has FPGA board.
