  • In this paper, a comparative study on the performance of two-phase and three-phase randomized pulse position PWM scheme for mitigation of audible switching acoustic noise in motor drives Is done. In the randomized pulse position PWM, each of two-phase or three-phase PWM pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Simulation and experimental efforts were executed to investigate the spread effects of power spectra of inverter output voltage, waveforms of ripple current and audible switching acoustic noise.

  • A Quadrature phase detector for high-speed delay-locked loop is introduced. The proposed Quadrature phase detector is composed of two nor gates and it determines if the phase difference of two input clocks is 90 degrees or not. The delay locked loop circuit including the Quadrature phase detector is fabricated in a 0.18 urn standard CMOS process and it operates at 5 ㎓ frequency. The phase error of the delay-locked loop is maximum 2 degrees and the circuits are robust with voltage, temperature variations.

  • In this paper, 2 phase modulated SRPP-PWM(Separately Random Pulse Position PWM) is proposed. This PWM technique is based on the 2 phase modulated SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation). In according to the theory of SVPWM, 2 phase modulated SVPWM uses two pulses, not three pulses as in 3 phase modulated SVPWM. In the proposed SRPP-PWM scheme, each of two phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. The experimental results show that the voltage and switching noise harmonics are spread to a wide band area. Also, the performance of the proposed 2 phase modulated SRPP-PWM and the conventional SVPWM are compared to each other In result, the speed response is nearly similar to each other from the viewpoint of the v/f constant control.

  • In this work, highly uniform size-controlled $Cu_2O$ nanocubes can be successfully formed by means of pulse electrodeposition. The size distribution, crystal structure, and chemical state of deposited $Cu_2O$ nanocubes are characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The phase transition from $Cu_2O$ to Cu can be controlled by constant current electrodeposition as a function of deposition time. In particular, the size of the $Cu_2O$ nanocubes can be controlled using pulse electrodeposition as a function of applied current density.

  • Two concurrent signals of the pulse wave measured from both hands' radial artery in un-pressurization condition using the prototype model of two clip-type pulsimeters with a permanent magnet and Hall device are investigated. The phase differences of two pulse waves from 22 subjects have some distinct points according to the handedness. Thus, the propagation of the pulse wave calculated from phase difference is both fast and slow to each other. It is confirmed that this phenomenon comes from the difference of blood vessel hardness between right- and left-hand of each subject rather than a quantity of muscle.

  • A retinal prosthesis is being developed for the restoration of vision in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Determining optimal electrical stimulation parameters for the prosthesis is one of the most important elements for the development of a viable retinal prosthesis. Here, we investigated the effects of different charge-balanced biphasic pulses with regard to their effectiveness in evoking retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses. Retinal degeneration (rd1) mice were used (n=17). From the ex-vivo retinal preparation, retinal patches were placed ganglion cell layer down onto an $8{\times}8$ multielectrode array (MEA) and RGC responses were recorded while applying electrical stimuli. For asymmetric pulses, 1st phase of the pulse is the same with symmetric pulse but the amplitude of 2nd phase of the pulse is less than $10{\mu}A$ and charge balanced condition is satisfied by lengthening the duration of the pulse. For intensities (or duration) modulation, duration (or amplitude) of the pulse was fixed to $500{\mu}s$($30{\mu}A$), changing the intensities (or duration) from 2 to $60{\mu}A$(60 to $1000{\mu}s$). RGCs were classified as response-positive when PSTH showed multiple (3~4) peaks within 400 ms post stimulus and the number of spikes was at least 30% more than that for the immediate pre-stimulus 400 ms period. RGC responses were well modulated both with anodic and cathodic phase-1st biphasic pulses. Cathodic phase-1st pulses produced significantly better modulation of RGC activity than anodic phase-1st pulses regardless of symmetry of the pulse.

  • From the dispersion relation of an electromagnetic (EM) wave propagating through plasmas, w$\^$2/ = w$\sub$p/$\^$2/+c$\^$2/k$\^$2/ the phase velocity (w/k) of the wave is large at high density where w$\sub$p/ is large, and small at low density Therefore, when a laser pulse is located on a downward density gradient of a plasma wave, the phase velocity of the back of the pulse becomes faster than that of the front of the pulse and the pulse wavelength decreases. • We have built a grating-based, high-resolution, spectral line-by-line pulse shaper. By controlling individual spectral lines of a mode-locked laser output, we demonstrate the interesting functionalities of the pulse shaper for arbitrary waveform generation, such as width tunable pulse generation, phase controlled waveform generation, microwave waveform generation, etc.

  • This work aims to analyze the thermo-viscoelastic interaction in an orthotropic solid cylinder. The medium is considered to be variable thermal conductivity and subjected to temperature pulse. Analytical solution based on dual-phase-lags model with Voigt-type for behavior of viscoelastic material has been effectively proposed. All variables are deduced using method of Laplace transforms. Numerical results for different distribution fields, such as temperature, displacement and stress components are graphically presented. Results are discussed to illustrate the effect of variability thermal conductivity parameter as well as phase-lags and viscoelasticity on the field quantities. Results are obtained when the viscosity is ignored with and without considering variability of thermal conductivity. A comparison study is made and all results are investigated.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the power spectrum of a three-phase and a two-phase RCD (Random Pulse Centered Displacement) PWM scheme. The two-phase or three-phase pulses of RCD-PWM scheme are mutually center-aligned as in SVM(Space Vector Modulation), but the common pulse center is displaced randomly from the middle of the period. To verify the validity of the proposed two-phase RCD-PWM scheme, the power spectra of the output voltage, the d.c link current in the inverter drives and the radiated acoustic noise are experimentally investigated. And, the performance of the proposed two-phase RCD-PWM scheme was compared and discussed with the conventional three-phase RCD-PWM scheme.
