  • Impedance spectroscopy allows for simultaneous characterization of interface-controlled materials and/or devices in terms of electrical and dielectric aspects. Recently, there have tremendous interests in 2-dimensional electron gas layers (2DEGs) involving $LaAlO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$ whose features incorporates extremely high mobility and carrier concentrations along with metallic responses unlike the constituents, $LaAlO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$. Impedance spectroscopy offers the following unique features, such as simultaneous determination of conductivity and dielectric constants, identification of electrical origins among bulk-, grain boundary-, and electrode-based responses. Impedance spectroscopy was applied to the 2DEG $LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3$ system, in order to extract the electrical and dielectric information operating in the 2DEG system. The unique responses of the 2DEG system are investigated in terms of temperature and device structures. The underlying mechanism of the 2DEG system is proposed with the aim to optimizing the high-mobility 2DEG responses and to expedite the associated devices towards the high-density integrated chips.

Removal of 2,4-D by an Fe(II)/persulfate/Electrochemical Oxidation Process (Fe(II)/과황산/전기화학적 산화 공정에 의한 2,4-D의 제거)

  • The removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in aqueous solution by coupled electro-oxidation and Fe(II) activated persulfate oxidation process was investigated. The electrochemical oxidation was performed using carbon sheet electrode and persulfate using Fe(II) ion as an activator. The oxidation efficiency was investigated by varying current density (2 - 10 mA/㎠), electrolyte (Na2SO4) concentration (10 - 100 mM), persulfate concentration (5 - 20 mM), and Fe(II) concentration (10 - 20 mM). The 2,4-D removal efficiency was in the order of Fe(II) activated persulfate-assisted electrochemical oxidation (Fe(II)/PS/ECO, 91%) > persulfate-electrochemical oxidation (PS/ECO, 51%) > electro-oxidation (EO, 36%). The persulfate can be activated by electron transfer in PS/ECO system, however, the addition of Fe(II) as an activator enhanced 2,4-D degradation in the Fe(II)/PS/ECO system. The 2,4-D removal efficiency was not affected by the initial pHs (3 - 9). The presence of anions (Cl- and HCO3-) inhibited the 2,4-D removal in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system due to scavenging of sulfate radical. Scavenger experiment using tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and methanol (MeOH) confirmed that although both sulfate (SO4•-) and hydroxyl (•OH) radicals existed in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system, hydroxyl radical (SO4•-) was the predominant radical.

Design and Implementation of Dermatology $CO_2$ Laser System (피부과용 $CO_2$레이저시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • We demonstrate a pulsed CO$_2$laser with long pulse duration of millisecond order in the low pressure less than 30 Torr. A new power supply for our laser system switches the voltage of AC power line(60㎐) directly. The power supply doesn't need elements such as a rectified bridge, energy-storage capacitors. and a current-limiting resistor in the discharge circuit. In order to control the laser output power, the pulse repetition rate is adjusted up to 60㎐ and the firing angle of SCR gate is varied from 30˚ to 150˚. A ZCS(Zero Crossing Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control the gate signal of SCR precisely. The maximum laser output is 23W at the total pressure of 18 Torr, the pulse repetition rate of 60㎐, and SCR gate firing angle of 90˚. In addition, the obtained laser pulse width is approximately 3㎳(FWHM)

Antioxidant Effects of Phenolic Acids and Ginseng Extract in Aqueous System (수용성 계에서 Phenolic Acid류와 인삼 추출물이 갖는 산화방지 효과)

  • The antioxidant effects of 700 ppm ginseng extract, 100ppm caffeic acid, ferulic acid, vanillic acid, or ${\alpha}-topherol$ on the 1% linoleic acid aqueous buffer system was studied by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) and headspace oxygen. The compounds showed antioxidant activities in the following order: $caffeic\;acid{\geq}ferulic\;acid\;>\;{\alpha}-tocopherol$>ginseng extract>vanillic acid, with the oxidation inhibition ratio of 63.5, 62.9, 52.3, 51.2 and 5.6% of the control according to MDA results. The mixture of 100 ppm caffeic acid, 100 ppm ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ and 700 ppm ginseng extract had a high oxidation inhibition ratio of 91.2%. Headspace oxygen results had a similar trend with the MDA results. Headspace oxygen results showed that the antioxidant activities were in order of ferulic acid>caffeic acid>${\alpha}-tocopherol$>ginseng extract>vanillic acid and headspace oxygen contents were 18.56, 17.78, 17.17, 16.65 and 15.95%, respectively.

  • In this paper, a new fully digital control method for UPS inverter, which is based on the double control loop such as the outer voltage control loop and inner current control loop, is proposed. In the proposed control system, overshoots and oscillations due to the computation time-delay are compensated by explicit incorporation of the time-delay in the current control loop transfer function. The inner current control loop is adopted by an Internal model controller The Internal model controller is designed to a second order deadbeat reference-to-output response which means that its response reaches the reference in two sampling time including computational time-delays. The outer voltage control loop employing P-Resonance controller is proposed. The resonance controller has an infinite gain at resonant frequency, and the resonant frequency is set to the fundamental frequency of the reference voltage in this paper. Thus the outer voltage control loop causes no steady state error as regard to both magnitude and phase. The effectiveness of the proposed control system has been verified by the simulation and experimental results respectively.

Performance Improvement of Anti-collision Algorithm for RFID Protocol and Algorithm Comparison (RFID 프로토콜의 충돌방지 알고리즘의 성능 개선과 알고리즘 비교)

  • In this paper, Air-interface protocols of ISO 18000-6 Types and EPCglobal Classes applied to RFID system in UHF band are analyzed, and those anticollision algorithms are realized. Also, the each algorithm which improves the performance of standard protocol is proposed, and the performance is compared when clock period of link timing is a identical condition on $12.5{\mu}s$. As the result, when 500 tags exist simultaneously inside reader interrogation zone, the tag recognition performance of a standard protocol is better in preceding order of Class-1 Generation-1, Type B, Type A, Class-0 and Class-1 Generation-2. And also the performance of improved protocol is better in ascending order of Type B, Type A, Class-1 Generation-1, Class-0 and Class-1 Generation-2. Therefore, performance of tag recognition remarkably depends on the regulated clock period in the protocol and link timing between a reader and a tag.

A Study on the Properties of Fe-Se-Te System (Fe-Se-Te계의 특성 연구)

  • The properties of Fe-Se-Te system(FeSe(sub)1-xTe(sub)x, x=0.2, 0.5, 0.8) have been studied by means of the X-ray diffraction method and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The results of X-ray diffraction patterns show that three samples have the ixed structure of tetragonal PbO and a small amount of hexagonal NiAs structure respectively. For x=0.5 the lattice parameters of tetragonal PbO structure are a=3.795$\AA$, c=5.896$\AA$ and c/a=1.55. The Mossbauer spectra were obtained with the various temperature variation and than they do not exhibit magnetic hyperfine structure but show a strong doublet. The values of observed isomer shift and quadrupole splitting suggest that the irons of all samples exist in the +2 oxidation state with a major covalent contribution. The temperature dependence of isomer shift values for x=0.8 seems to be originated from the second order Doppler effect.

Changes in Diseases of Physical Therapy Patients and Medical Department on Two General Hospitals in Taegu (대구시내 2개 종합병원 물리치료환자의 진료과 및 질병 변화 $(1989\~1991)$)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the changes diseases of physical therapy patient. Through the analysis, of total 2,902 cases in one university hospital and one general hospital in Taegu, of which 1,619 cases for 1989 and 1,283 cases for 1981. The physical records were analyzed in terms of sex, age, pattern in PT diseases, fee, and medical department of PT. The international classification of Diseases, 9th revision was used fer the study. Major results are as follows : 1. The ratio of male me female nae 1.51 to 1 in 1989, 1.53 to 1 in 1991. The proportion of the elderly over 60 was $15.6\%$ in 1989, $22.0\%$ in 1989. And the age groups of 50-59 years ranked the first an years. 2. As to the PT patients of medical department, Orthopaedics$(50.3\%)$, Neurosurgery$(28.1\%)$. Neuromedicine$(8.0\%)$. Plastic surgery$(4.4\%)$, and Dentry$(3.2\%)$ in that order in 1989. On the other hand, Orthopaedics$(51.2\%)$, Neurosurgery$(22.1\%)$, Neuromedicine$(9.6\%)$, Plastic surgery$(6.5\%)$, and Internal medicine$(6.5\%)$ in that order in 1991. 3. No significant difference was observed by season of PT patients, but winter (December, January and February) ranked the first all years. 4. No significant difference was observed changes in diseases as for the 56 international classification of diseases of PT patients, Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue occupied the largest proportion all years. Fractures increased from $21.4\%$ in 1989, $24.5\%$ in 1991. On the other hand, Diseases of the nervous system remarkably increased from $8.9\%$ in 1989, $19.7\%$ in 1991.

Treatment Efficiency of Complex Wastewater by Fenton's Oxidation Condition (펜톤산화에 따른 복합폐수의 처리효율연구)

  • In order to treat the wastewater containing organic compound, pre-treatment system connected with MSP(molecular separation process) was investigated. With the aim of selecting an optimum process of Fenton's oxidation, removal efficiency of each process in the optimum reaction condition was recommended. The $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$(ferric sulfate to hydrogen peroxide)reagent is referred to as the Fenton's regent, which produces hydroxyl radicals by the interaction of Fe with $H_{2}O_{2}$. The powerful oxidizing ability and extreme kinetic reactively of the hydroxyl radical was well established. Increasing dosage of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ increased removal efficiency as molar ratio of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ between 0.2 and 2.5. Optimum dosage of molar ratio was 1. The removal efficiency for reaction condition was increased as pH decreased when the molar ratio of $Fe/H_{2}O_{2}$ was 1.7. Fenton's oxidation was most efficient in the reaction time 35 min for complex wastewater. Also, coagulation aid experiments using kaolin resulted in 3% of kaolin dosage.

Performance comparison of cascade refrigerator and two-stage compression refrigerator (캐스케이드 냉동시스템과 2단 압축 1단 팽창식 냉동 시스템의 성능 비교)

  • In order to obtain a low evaporation temperature ranging from $-30^{\circ}C{\sim}-50^{\circ}C$, a cascade refrigeration system and two-stage compression one-stage expansion refrigeration system is required. However, the research results of performance comparison of these refrigeration system are very scarce. This paper were compared the performance characteristics of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system and R404A two-stage compression refrigeration system. The COP of R404A two-stage compression refrigeration system is about 36~57% greater than that of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system in the range of evaporation temperature of $-30^{\circ}C{\sim}-50^{\circ}C$. But R404A two-stage compression refrigeration system is unstable because COP is significantly changed when evaporating temperature and compressor efficiency decreased. In particular, when compressor efficiency decreased, COP is significantly decreased. In this case, not efficient for long-term use. Whereas R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system using natural refrigerants. Therefore, it is environmentally friendly. And this system is high-efficiency refrigeration system. The reason it can be configured by selecting the suitable refrigerant at high-temperature side and low-temperature side. From the above results, select the appropriate low temperature refrigeration system by considering the environmental and performance aspects.
