Effect of Roasting Conditions on the Antioxidant Activities of Cassia tora L. (볶음 공정이 결명자의 항산화 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of roasting temperature and time on the antioxidant activities of Cassia tora L. were investigated. In comparison with raw seeds (7.15 mg TAE/g), roasted seeds contained a significantly higher total polyphenol content (p<0.05). However, seeds roasted at a higher temperature ($250^{\circ}C$) for 10 min showed a significantly lower total polyphenol content (2.30 mg TAE/g; p<0.05). The electron donating abilities of Cassia tora L. seeds increased with an increase in roasting time; further, seeds roasted for 5 min at lower temperatures showed higher electron donating abilities (80.61% at $175^{\circ}C$; 80.75% at $200^{\circ}C$) than did seeds roasted for 5 min at higher temperatures (76.26% at $225^{\circ}C$; 77.35% at $250^{\circ}C$). Seeds roasted at lower temperatures showed adequate L values, regardless of roasting time; by contrast, seeds roasted for 10 min at higher temperatures, showed markedly lower L values. Our results indicate that roasting temperature and time must be controlled to produce high-quality Cassia tora L. products.

  • Although air, water, and noise pollutions have been widely recognized, electromagnetic forces (EMF) hazard has been rarely recognized as a pollution and very little studies has been done in this country. Thus, in this study electromagnetic forces radiated by various home appliances, office machines, and communication equipments were measured and so were several places radiating strong EMF such as subway stations and electric substations. Among the home appliances microwave oven radiates lots of magnetic field and microwaves, and electric mattress does strong magnetic field. In video game room strong magnetic and considerable electric fields were measured. It was observed strong magnetic field inside of electric powered train and very strong magnetic and electric fields on some platforms. Hand-phone and car-phone radiate very hazardous level of microwaves to brain and that they rapidly come into wide use. In this study data base for various electric machines and places radiating strong EMFs were constructed and could be used for future epidemiological studies.

Isolation and Identification of Entomopathogenic Bacteria for Biological Control of the Mushroom Fly, Lycoriella mali (느타리 재배에서 버섯파리의 생물학적 방제를 위한 곤충병원성 세균의 분리 및 동정)

  • The study was conducted to isolate and identify insecticidal bacteria for biological control of larvae of mushroom fly, Lycoriella mali, which is one of serious pests to oyster mushrooms during its cultivation period. Among eight bacteria isolated from the soil in the oyster mushroom beds and the dead body of L. mali, two bacteria, Bti-D and Bti-U showed more toxicity with mortality rate than other six-bacteria isolates. The two bacteria showed more toxicity in three instar of the period of development of the mushroom fly than in other instar. Symptoms of the larvae of L. mali infected by the two bacteria developed as follows: at the early infection, the front middle gut changed color to light brown, the middle gut to brown, whole body to black brown, and eventually, the fly died. For the identification of these isolates, cultural and biochemical characteristics by Bergey's manual and Biolog system, cell morphology by TEM, endospore and endotoxin by phase-contrast microscope, and test using 33H antisera were examined. According to the results, these two isolates, Bti-D and Bti-U were identified as Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis respectively.

Developing Self-awareness Through Cyber Study and Cyber Reading Activities: A Case Study with the Electronic Library 'Booktoby' (사이버 학습을 활용한 학생의 자아정체성 확인에 관한 연구: 북토비 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study has been conducted with $1^{st}$ grade elementary students where the purpose was to develop students' interest in themselves and to cultivate their self-awareness as the first step toward establishing a suitable course and career for their start-up features. Students have conducted the cyber study through "Incheon e-School" and cyber reading "Booktoby" and recorded three types of outcomes - affective self-awareness, social self-awareness and intelligence self-awareness - on each side of the Pyramid, thus constructing their own self-awareness pyramids of the system. According to the results, after such activities were undertaken during the $1^{st}$ semester, their opinion toward their self-control and study ability has improved as much as about 67% compared to that of the beginning of the last semester. Regarding the effects of cyber reading, their interest, spontaneity and understanding toward reading books have also improved as much as 54% and 50%, 33% respectively along with positive answers of as much as 75% with regard to self-awareness. When it comes to the results of the SCI-II test (used to evaluate self-awareness), the total average has improved by as much as 3 points and the three components of self-awareness - affective, social, and intelligence - have improved by as much as 4points, 1point, and 5points, respectively.

  • The development of mobile phone is growing everyday according to the change of our age. Most of all, the birth of smart phone has gotten lots of attentions. The Smart Phone has not only nalogue functions for calling and receiving but also has many multiple-service functions satisfying the contemporary digital needs. Due to the smart phone, people could access to various and plenty information simply by touching it. It was Sep. 2011 that the number of smart phone users began to be more than 15,000,000. That number stands for the turning point of digital revolution. In Korea, both of "Omnia" from Samsung and "i-phone" from Apple came into the market near the end of 2009. That time was so called the full-scale first smart-phone war, and thinking of the time, it could be named as the explosive growth of smart phones. We can predict that the smart phone will influence the real life of human beings not only the mobile phone market. In this way, the smart phone has come deeply into our life day by day. For instance, more people can be able to get the informations of their trip for their leisure and free weekends through the smart phone. Thus, our study, began with the theme of "Korean islands trip", will start in the relationship with the Application-Services, "Islands" utilizing web-pictures.

  • 실시간 운영체제(Real-Time Operating System: 이하 RTOS라 함) 개발환경에서 제공하는 도구 중에 하나인 RTOS 시뮬레이터는 타겟 하드웨어가 호스트에 연결되어 있지 않아도 호스트에서 응용프로그램의 개발과 디버깅을 가능하게 해주는 타겟 시뮬레이션 환경을 제공해 줌으로서, 개발자로 하여금 빠른 시간 내에 응용프로그램을 개발할 수 있도록 지원하며 하드웨어 개발이 완료되기 전에도 응용프로그램을 개발할 수 있게 해 준다. 그러한 이유로 현재 대부분의 상용 RTOS 개발환경에서는 RTOS 시뮬레이터를 제공하고 있다. 그러나 현재 상용 RTOS 시뮬레이터들은 대부분 RTOS의 기능적인 부분들만 호스트에서 동작하도록 구현되어 있어서 RTOS나 RTOS 응용프로그램이 실제 타겟에서 실행될 때의 실질적인 시간 추정이 불가능하다. 이러한 문제점은 실시간 시스템이 정해진 시간 내에 결과를 출력해야 하는 시스템임을 감안한다면 RTOS 시뮬레이터의 가장 큰 결점이 되기 때문에 실행시간 추정 기능을 가지면서 실용화도 가능한 RTOS 시뮬레이터가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하여 RTOS와 RTOS 응용프로그램이 실제 타겟에서 처리될 때의 실행시간 추정이 가능하고 상용화가 가능한 기계 명령어 기반(machine instruction-based)의 RTOS 시뮬레이터를 연구 개발하였다. 나아가 실행시간의 주요 요소인 파이프라인과 캐쉬의 영향도 고려함으로서 실행시간 추정의 정확도를 향상시켰다 본 연구에서 사용된 RTOS는 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI)에서 2000년에 개발된 Q+이고, Q+가 동작하는 타겟 하드웨어는 ARM 계열의 StrongARM SA-110 마이크로프로세서와 21285 주제어기가 장착된 EBSA-285 보드이다. 측정하면서 수행하였다. 검증 결과 random 상태에서는 문헌자료에 부합되는 예측결과를 보여주었으나, intermediate와 constant 상태에서는 문헌보다 다소 낮은 속도를 보여주었다 이러한 속도차는 추후 현장 데이터를 수집하여 보다 실질적인 검증을 통하여 조정되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.지발광(1.26초)보다 구애발광(1.12초)에서 0.88배 감소하였고, 암컷에서 정지발광(2.99초)보다 구애발광(1.06초)에서 0.35배 감소하였다. 발광양상에서 발광주파수는 수짓의 정지발광에서 0.8 Hz, 수컷 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz, 암컷의 정지발광에서 0.3 Hz, 암컷의 구애발광에서 0.9 Hz로 각각 나타났다. H. papariensis의 발광파장영역은 400 nm에서 700 nm에 이르는 모든 영역에서 확인되었으며 가장 높은 첨두치는 600 nm에 있고 500에서 600 nm 사이의 파장대가 가장 두드러지게 나타났다. 발광양상과 어우러진 교미행동은 Hp system과 같은 결과를 얻었다.하는 방법을 제안한다. 즉 채널 액세스 확률을 각 슬롯에서 예약상태에 있는 음성 단말의 수뿐만 아니라 각 슬롯에서 예약을 하려고 하는 단말의 수에 기초하여 산출하는 방법을 제안하고 이의 성능을 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션에 의해 새로 제안된 채널 허용 확률을 산출하는 방식의 성능을 비교한 결과 기존에 제안된 방법들보다 상당한 성능의 향상을 볼 수 있었다., 인삼이 성장될 때 부분적인 영양상태의 불충분이나 기후 등에 따른 영향을 받을 수 있기 때문에 앞으로 이에 대한 많은 연구가 이루어져야할 것으로 판단된다.태에도 불구하고 [-wh]의미의 겹의문사는 병렬적 관계의 합성어가 아니라 내부구조를 지니지 않은 단순한 단어(minimal $X^{0}$

Structure of Oocyte Surface in Two Korean Minnow Species, Rhynchocypris kumgangensis and R. oxycephalus (Pisces: Cyprinidae) (금강모치와 버들치 난모세포의 표피 구조)

  • Oocyte surface in two Korean minnows, Rhynchocypris oxycephalus and R. kumgangensis was examined by light and electron microscope. In two species, the development of the oocyte was similar, but the follicular layer surrounding full-grown oocyte showed an evident difference. In R. oxycephalus, the follicular layer at the yolk vesicle stage became bilaminar with the retention of its outer squamous cell layer and the acquisition of an inner cuboidal or round cell layer just over the zona radiata. As the oocyte grows, the cuboidal cells of the inner follicular layer began to be replaced by columnar cells. At the yolk granule stage, the columnar cells secreted mucin to their cytoplasm (adhesive materials) and then surround the entire oocyte, as bundles of fence-shaped structures. Whereas, although the follicular layer of R. kumgangensis had an outer squamous layer and an inner cuboidal or round cell layer at the yolk vesicles as in R. oxycephalus, no inner cells were more changed with the retention of its cuboidal or round cells. Finally, in R. kumgangensis, the adhesive materials did not occur. In Korean two minnows, the structural difference in the oocyte surface seems to be related to their habitats and spawning characteristics as well as taxonomic characters.

The Study on Design of lead monoxide based radiation detector for Checking the Position of a Radioactive Source in an NDT (비파괴검사 분야에서 방사선원의 위치 확인을 위한 산화납 기반 방사선 검출기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In recent years, the automatic remote control controller of the gamma ray irradiator malfunctions, and radiation workers are continuously exposed to radiation exposure accidents. In the non-destructive testing field, much time and resources are invested in establishing a radioactive source monitoring system in order to prevent potential incidents of radiation. In this study, the gamma-ray response properties of the lead monoxide-based radiation detector were estimated through monte carlo simulation as a previous study for the development of a radioactive source location monitoring system that can be applied universally to various non-destructive testing equipment. As a result of the study, the optimized thickness of the radiation detector varies according to the gamma-ray energy emitted from the radioactive source, and the optimized thickness gradually increases with increasing energy. In conclusion, the optimized thickness of the lead monoxide-based radiation detector was $200{\mu}m$ for the Ir-192, $150{\mu}m$ for the Se-75 and $300{\mu}m$ for the Co-60. Based on these results, the appropriate thickness of lead monoxide-based radiation detector considering secondary-electron equilibrium was evaluated to be $300{\mu}m$ for general application. These results can be used as a basic data for determining the appropriate thickness required in the radiation detector when developing a radiation source location monitoring system for universal application to various non-destructive testing equipment in the future.

Characteristics of Rice Flours Prepared by Moisture-Heat Treatment (수분-열처리에 의해 제조한 멥쌀가루의 특성)

  • To improve the properties of non-waxy rice flours for baking, soaked-wet milled rice flour (SWRF) was adjusted moisture content (MC) to 30 and 50 % and heated at 50 and $70^{\circ}C$ in a shaking water bath for 6 and 18 hrs, respectively. Moisture-heat treated rice flours were investigated with regard to particle size distribution, and morphological, physicochemical and pasting properties for comparing dry and wet milled flours. The particle size of rice flour treated with 30% MC was distributed between $4-20{\mu}m\;and\;100-200{\mu}m$, like SWRF. The particles above $200{\mu}m$ in the flour were produced at higher heating temperature. By SEM, starch granules were found in the rice flours treated with 30% MC, who whereas aggregated starch granules were shown in the flours treated with 50% MC. Moisture-heat treatment using higher MC and heating temperature decreased the lightness and increased the yellowness of non-waxy rice flours. Water binding capacity of 30% moisture treated rice flour was similar to that of SWRF. In the same moisture treated rice flour, swelling power was higher, but solubility was lower at $50^{\circ}C$ than at $70^{\circ}C$. The initial pasting temperature by RVA increased after moisture-heat treatment. The peak viscosity of moisture-heat treated rice flour was higher for 30% moisture than that of the others. The rice flour treated with 30% MC and heated at $50^{\circ}C$ showed low setback and increased stability for retrogradation.

Comparison of Thermal Properties and Surface Structures of Unmodified, Spray-Dried, and Extrusion-Dried Agar (일반한천, 분무건조한천, 압출성형한천의 열 특성 및 표면구조의 비교)

  • Agar has widely been used as medical aids and food ingredients due to its pecular physicochemical and rheological properties. In this paper, the effects of spray drying and extrusion drying on functional properties of agar were investigated to clarify the sol-gel transition mechanism at low temperature and microstructure of agar gel by measuring phase transition by differential scanning calorimetery, structural differences by light microscope and scanning electron microscope observation. The lowest endothermic onset(To), peak(Tp), conclusion(Tc) temperature and enthalpy($\Delta$H) using differential scanning calorimetery were showed in extrusion-dried agar wic were checked in 41.30, 61.72, 80.50 and 0.73cal/g. In cases of unmodified and spray-dried, the values were 81.20, 95.51, 112.14 and 3.22cal/g, and 60.11, 76.45, 89.54 and 1.53cal/g, respectively. When all samples were reheated using differential scanning calorimetery after gelling fully, no significant differences of endothermic To, Tp, Tc and $\Delta$H appeared. The surface structure of unmodified agar powder observed by light microscope and scanning electron microscope appeared a continuous surface without any indication of small pores, gaps or point of discontinuity. In cases of spray-dried agar, the unstable structures with pores was resulted. The microstructures of extrusion-dried agar, however, was solid with large gaps and areas of discontinuity in the surface. From the results above, it was suggested that significant differences in phase transition and surface microstructures were clearly related to the physicochemical changes and rheological properties, solubility and gelling ability of the types of agar gel.
