Autostereoscopic Multiview 3D Display System based on Volume Hologram (체적 홀로그램을 이용한 무안경 다안식 3D 디스플레이 시스템)

  • We present an autostereoscopic 3D display system using volume hologram. In this proposed system, the interference pattern of angular multiplexed plane reference and object beams are recorded into a volume hologram, which plays a role of guiding object beams of multi-view images into the desired perspective directions. For reconstruction, object beams containing the desired multi-view image information, which satisfy Bragg matching condition, are illuminated in the time-division multiplexed manner onto the crystal. Then multiple stereoscopic images are projected to the display plane for autostereoscopic 3D viewing. It is possible to make a high resolution multiview 3D display system independent upon the viewpoint.

A Study on the Compression Efficiency of a Digital Hologram Video using Domain Transforms and H.265/HEVC (도메인 변환 및 H.265/HEVC를 이용한 디지털 홀로그램 비디오의 압축효율에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, many researches on digital holograms, which retain almost perfect 3 dimensional image information, have been performed actively that it seems for them to be serviced soon. Accordingly, this paper proposes a data compression technique for a digital hologram video for this service. It uses H.265/HEVC, the most recent international 2 dimensional video compression standard, for which we consider various domain transform methods to increase the correlation among the pixels in a digital hologram. Also we consider the various parameters on H.265/HEVC. The purpose of this paper is to find empirically the optimal condition for the domain transform method, the size of transform unit, and the H.265/HEVC parameters. The proposed method satisfying the optimal parameter set found is compared to the existing methods to prove that ours shows better performance.

  • 3차원 영상 기술에는 여러 가지 종류가 있다. 지금까지 알려진 방법중 가장 뛰어난 3차원 영상기술은 홀로그래피이다. 그러나 헐러그래피를 이용하여 3차원 TV를 구현하는 데는 많은 문제점이 있다. 그 문제점 중의 하나가 홀로그램이 가지고 있는 많은 데이터 량이다. 홀로 그램의 1cm2당에 포함된 데이터 량은 1Gbits이상이다. 그 외에도 천연색 재생, 자연 광경의 찰영 문제 등 여러 가지가 있다. 기술적 어려움을 제외하고도 기존 기술에의 적용 가능성도 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제점을 고려할 때 그래픽 방식의 3차원 TV의 개발은 장기적 측면에서 추진해야 한다.

A New Algorithm and High-Performance Hardware Design for 2-Dimensional Parallel Generation of Digital Hologram (디지털 홀로그램의 2차원적인 병렬 생성을 위한 알고리즘 및 고성능 하드웨어 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose and implement a high-speed algorithm for CGH that is to calculate digital hologram by modeling the interference phenomenon for tow lights. This algorithm changes the computation equations into a parallel-computable ones and implements it with a structure consisting of two kinds of cells (initial calculation cell, and update calculation cell). The parallel computation algorithm is to get the rest hologram pixels concurrently after calculation the first hologram column. Here, the initial calculation cells compute the first column of the hologram and the update calculation cells compute the rest of the hologram. The two kinds of cells performs a pipeline operation to complete the operations of the two cells at the same time. A CGH calculator to compute the hole hologram for a light source is structured by arranging the two kinds of cells. Results from simulation showed that the maximum operation frequency is about 215MHz. So, experiments are performed by setting this frequency and the same environments as the method showing the best performance. As the results, the proposed one could complete the computation of 81.75 CGH frames per second, while the previous method computes 62.9 CGH frames per second.

A Partial Encryption Methods for Digital Holograms (디지털 홀로그램을 위한 부분 암호화 기법)

  • The purpose of this paper is to find an efficient encryption scheme for digital holograms (fringe patterns) with low encryption cost. Therefore, we introduced several encryption attempts in both hologram-domain and frequency-domain (both DCT-domain and DWT-domain) on the bases of the results from analyzing the properties of the coefficients in each domain. To effectively hide the image information, 25%, 1.5625%, and 0.0244% of the original fringe pattern need to be encrypted for hologram-domain scheme, DWT-domain scheme, and DCT-domain scheme, respectively. Consequently the DCT-domain scheme was the most efficient and it is caused by the fact that the ability for DCT to concentrate the energy of a given 2-dimensional image into a small area is the best. The encryption schemes and the analyses in this paper are expected to be used effectively on the researches on encryption and others for digital holograms.

A Prototype Architecture of an Interactive Service System for Digital Hologram Videos (디지털 홀로그램 비디오를 위한 인터랙티브 서비스 시스템의 프로토타입 설계)

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a service system for a digital hologram video, which has not been published yet. This system assumes the existing service frame for 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional image/video, which includes data acquisition, processing, transmission, reception, and reconstruction. This system also includes the function to service the digital hologram at the viewer's view point by tracking the viewer's face. For this function, the image information at the virtual view point corresponding to the viewer's view point is generated to get the corresponding hologram. Here in this paper, only a prototype that includes major functions of it is implemented, which includes camera system for data acquisition, camera calibration and image rectification, depth/intensity image enhancement, intermediate view generation, digital hologram generation, and holographic image reconstruction by both simulation and optical apparatus. The proposed prototype system was implemented and the result showed that it takes about 352ms to generate one frame of digital hologram and reconstruct the image by simulation, or 183ms to reconstruct image by optical apparatus instead of simulation.

Effects of storing defocused Fourier plane holograms in three-dimensional holographic disk memories (디스크형 3차원 홀로그래피 메모리에서 비초점 Fourier 면 홀로그램의 저장 효과)

  • Defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored in disk-type holographic memories where thin recording media are used, the areal storage density per hologram and the intensity uniformity of the signal beam at the recording plane are studied. As the pixel pitch of the spatial light modulator that represents binary data increases, the storage density per hologram increases if exact Fourier holograms are stored. When defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored, however, we show that there exists an optimal pixel pitch that maximizes the area storage density per hologram in general, to increase the areal storage density per hologram, f/# of the Fourier transform lens that focuses the data image should be as small as possible. In this case, not only the intensity distribution at the recording plane but also the recording area becomes very sensitive to the degree of defocusing. Therefore, even if the exact Fourier plane holograms are stored, the defocusing effect owing to the medium thickness should be taken into account to achieve the maximal areal storage density per hologram.logram.

2- Dimensional Embossing Type Hologram Fabrication in Amorphous As-Ge-Se-S with the Selective Etching (비정질 As-Ge-Se-S 박막에서 선택적 에칭을 통한 2차원 엠보싱형 홀로그램 제작)

  • In this paper, we investigated the selective etching rate of amorphous As-Ge-Se-S thin film due to the photoexpansion effect and fabricated the 2-dimensional embossing type diffraction grating hologram. We measured the thickness change with the etching time among NaOH solution after forming 1-dimension diffraction grating. As a results, we found that the selective etching rate were $2.5\AA/s,\;3.3\AA/s,\;3.9\AA/s$ where NaOH solution concentration were 0.26N, 0.33N, 0.36N, respectively. Also after the formation of 2-dimensional diffraction grating by the $90^{\circ}$ degree of circulation on the formed 1-dimensional diffraction grating, we etched selectively during 60sec, among 0.26N NaOH solution and obtained 2-dimensional embossing diffraction grating. As the results of AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy), we confirmed the formation of distinct embossing type 2-dimensional diffraction grating hologram, successfully.

Comparison of 3D Space Perception for the Stereoscopic AR Holography (스테레오 증강현실 홀로그래피에서의 삼차원 공간감 비교)

  • Recently, the use of floating hologram has increased in many different aspects, such as exhibitions, education, advertisements, and so on. Especially, the floating hologram that makes use of half-mirror is widely used. Nevertheless, half-mirror, unfortunately, cannot lead users to the perfect three dimensional hologram experience. Even though it can make the vision look to be up on the air, it does not have the capacity to display itself up on the air, which is the ultimate goal of hologram. In addition, it looks inconsistent when a real object is located behind the half-mirror in order to show the convergence of the two (object and the half-mirror). In this paper, we did the study on comparison of 3D space perception for the stereoscopic AR holography. At first, we applied stereoscopic technology to the half-mirror hologram system for the accurate and realistic AR environment. Then, the users can feel as if the real 3D object behind half-mirror and the reflected virtual image are converged much better in the 3D space. Furthermore, by using depth camera, the location and direction of graphics can be controlled to change depending on the user's point of view. This is the effective way to produce augmented stereoscopic images simply and accurately through half-mirror film without any additional devices. What we saw from the user test were applying 3D images and user interaction leads the users to have 3D spatial awareness and realism more effectively and accurately.
