  • Taxonomical evaluation of P. nuntia var. vallata and P. nuntia var. brevicirris Grube was checked. On the basis of the number of paragnaths and its arrangement pattern it is suggested that these two varieties are no longer valid, and they are synonym of Perinereis nuntia(Savigny, 1818).

  • Artemisia capillaris Thunb. and A. scoparia Waldst. & Kit. are classified by their root shape, leaf size and capitulum size. However, these characteristics are not nearly as useful when attempting to identify the two species owing to the continuous variation in them. Another important taxonomic characteristics is the habit, whether it is the subshrubs or perennial herbs of A. capillaris Thunb. or the annual or biennial herbs of A. scoparia Waldst. & Kit.. All observed specimens and living individuals in Korea are subshrubs or perennial herbs, and annual or biennial examples are not found. Therefore, it is considered that A. scoparia Waldst. & Kit. is not distributed in Korea.

  • In the course of the study program of benthic invertebrates of the coastal shelves of Korean Peninsula, the shallow -water chitons (Mollusca : Polyplacophora) are studied based on the collections of the Korea Ocean Research and Development Insitute made between 1980 and 1983. A total of sixteen species belonging to the Orders Lepidopleurina and Ischnochitonina , are now recognized from Korean waters,of which the following two species are newly recorded ; Leptochiton (Leptochiton ) rugatus (Carpenter in Pilsbry), and Mopalia schrencki Thiele. Illustrations, description and complte synonymies are provided for each of them.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the vascular plants of Namhan River. The period of survey was from March to November on 2012. Vascular plants based on voucher specimen were summarized as 430 taxa including 86 families, 250 genera, 383 species, 2 subspecies, 39 varieties and 6 forms. The rare plant species designated by Korea Forest Service were 13 taxa including Penthorum chinense Pursh, Polygonatum stenophyllum Maxim, and Sparganium erectum L., etc. And the endemic plant species were 8 taxa including Salix koriyanagi Kimura, Clematis trichotoma Nakai, and Carex gifuensis Franch., etc. Furthermore, 56 taxa were listed as specific plant species based on phytogeographical and based on the list of plants which have been approved for overseas delivery, 27 taxa were recorded in the investigated area. The naturalized plants were recorded as 58 taxa, and their Naturalization Ratio and Urbanization Index were recorded as 13.5%, and 18.1%, respectively. 430 taxa listed consists of 174 taxa(40.5%) of pasturing plant, 141 taxa(32.8%) of edible plants, 112 taxa(26.0%) of medicinal plants, 48 taxa(11.2%) of ornamental plants, 11 taxa(2.6%) of stain plants, 7 taxa(1.6%) of fiber plants, 4 taxa(0.9%) of timber plants, 2 taxa(0.5%) of industrial plants and 109 taxa(25.4%) of unknown plants.

  • Jeju where concentrates on agriculture and tourism, conversion of outdoor culture into cultivation under structure happens actively for the purpose of increasing profit so continuous examination on house cultivation area is very important for this region. This paper is to suggest the effective image classification method using high resolution satellite image to detect the greenhouse. We carried out classification of greenhouse using the supervised classification and rule-based classification method about Formosat-2 images. Connecting result of two classification try to find accuracy improvement for greenhouse detection. Results about each classification method were calculated the accuracy by comparing with the result of visual detection. As a result, mahalanobis distance among the supervised methods was resulted in the highest detection. Also, it could be checked that detection accuracy was improved by tying with result of supervised method and result of rule-based classification. Therefore, it was expected that effective detection of greenhouse would be feasible if henceforward further study is performed in the process of connecting supervised classification and rule-based classification.

  • The flora of vascular plants in the Mt. Cheonhwang, located at Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, was surveyed 16 times from March, 2009 to September, 2011. The result of this survey revealed 442 taxa in total, comprising 90 families, 252 genera, 387 species, 3 subspecies, 43 varieties, and 9 forms. Among the flora of this area, 14 taxa were plants endemic to Korea and 11 taxa were rare and endangered plants of Korea. The floristic regional indicator plants found in this area were 59 taxa: 2 taxa of grade V, 5 taxa of grade IV, 15 taxa of grade III, 16 taxa of grade II and 21 taxa of grade I. Alien plants in Korea numbered 21 taxa. In addition, 442 taxa were categorized by usage into 8 groups, as follows: 163 edible, 6 fiber, 125 medical, 76 ornamental, 163 pasturing, 4 industrial, 9 dyeing and 21 timber plants.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the vascular plants of the Mt. Galjeongok-bong (1204 m) Protected Area for Forest Genetic Resource Conservation. The vascular plants collected 12 times (from March 2007 to October 2012) were consisted of total 385 taxa; 82 families, 232 genera, 335 species, 4 subspecies, 43 varieties and 3 forms respectively. Among them, 9 taxa Korean endemic plants and 21 taxa of Korean rare plants were investigated in addition to 89 taxa of specially designated plants announced by the Ministry of Environment. The naturalized plants were 9 taxa, therefore naturalized ratio was 2.3%. 385 taxa listed consists of 152 taxa (39.5%) of edible plants, 123 taxa (31.9%) of medicinal plants, 120 taxa (31.2%) of pasture plants, 52 taxa (13.5%) of ornamental plants, 16 taxa (4.2%) of timber plants, 4 taxa (1.0%) of fiber plants and 3 taxa (0.8%) of industrial plants.
