  • A single-phase line-start synchronous reluctance motor (LSSynRM) has merits of low cost, high efficiency and reliability. LSSynRM has an unbalanced magnetic circuit caused by flux barriers and various shapes of conductor bars when starting. Thus the motor may generate unstable starting torque in accordance with the initial starting position of the rotor. This paper presents the rotor design to improve starting performance of the LSSynRM. Design variables are the number and the shape of the conductor bars. This design result is compared with the initial prototype and single-phase induction motor.

  • Nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete structures is carried out by using Reissner-Mindlin (RM) shell finite element (FE). The brittle inelastic characteristic of concrete material is represented by using the elasto-plastic fracture (EPF) material model with the relevant material models such as cracking criteria, shear transfer model and tension stiffening model. In particular, assumed strains are introduced in the formulation of the present shell FE in order to avoid element deficiencies inherited in the standard RM shell FE. The arc-length control method is used to trace the full load-displacement path of reinforced concrete structures. Finally, four benchmark tests are carried out and numerical results are provided as future reference solutions produced by RM shell element with assumed strains.

  • In this study, compounds with azo-mesogenic groups at 4-, 3,5-, or 3,4,5-positions of one phenyl ring were synthesized, and their liquid crystallinity and photochemistry were investigated. The compounds in the Azo1 and Azo2 series had linear and planar geometries, respectively, while those in the Azo3 series had relatively bulky structures. Compounds of BA-Azo2 and BA-Azo3 did not show any liquid crystallinity. Compounds of BE-Azo1 and BE-Azo2 exhibited a monotropic liquid crystallinity, while the other compounds showed an enantiotropic liquid crystallinity. The liquid crystalline behavior was imparted by the azo-mesogenic groups, and most of the liquid crystalline compounds formed a smectic phase. All the RM-AzoX compounds exhibited photoisomerism because of the presence of the azo groups in the molecule. The rate of photoisomerization followed the order of RM-Azo3 < RM-Azo1 < RM-Azo2 and was considered to depend on the steric hindrance around the azobenzene groups in the molecule. These results suggest that the liquid crystallinity and photochemical property of the compounds are affected by the position or the number of azo-mesogenic groups phenyl ring of the molecule.

  • An antibacterial peptide from skin extract of the catfish Silurus asotus was purified and characterized. The acidified skin extract was put through a Sep-Pak C18 solid phase extraction cartridge using a stepwise gradient and divided into flow-through (F.T.), 10% methanol-elute (RM10), 60% methanolelute (RM60), and 100% methanol-elute (RM100) fractions. RM10, RM60, and RM 100 showed antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli D31. On the other hand, the F.T. fraction did not show antimicrobial activity. Among the various fractions, RM 60 had the highest activity. RM 60 was partially purified on a cation exchange column (CM52) by a stepwise gradient. The ammonium acetate (pH 5.15) 0.02 M – 0.8 M fraction showed antimicrobial activity. Then an antimicrobial peptide was purified using a 0.6M fraction with strong antibacterial activity through a series of five C18 reversed-phase HPLC columns. For the characterization of the purified peptide, the molecular weight and amino acid sequence were analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS and Edman degradation. The molecular weight of this peptide was about 4182.1 [M+H]+. The amino acid sequence of this peptide was partially determined as follows: PALXXKARREAKVKF. These findings suggest that this peptide plays a significant role in the innate defense system of catfish skin.

  • In this experimental research, it was studied to compare with pure gasoline and the fuels of RM50 (reformulated methanol fuel) for performance and exhaust emissions without reconstruction of engine systems. RM50 has a wider range of combustion limitation, which is one of the methanol's characteristics. This causes a stable driving state of RM50 in the experimental condition of unstable state and a low cycle by cycle variation which is used to determine the driving state. It is determined that fuel stability is better because cycle by cycle variation varies within 10%, therefore, driving characteristics is relatively good. In all conditions, RM50 has lower exhaust emissions of CO, HC, NOx than gasoline fuel, however, RM50's noise characteristics are 0.5~2dB higher at all condition, and in the result of the experiments of rubber fusion, it increases the utility possibility of RM50.

  • In this paper we deal with new standard completeness proofs of some systems introduced by Metcalfe and Montagna in [10]. For this, this paper investigates several fuzzy-relevance logics, which can be regarded as neighbors of the R of Relevance with mingle (RM). First, the monoidal uninorm idempotence logic MUIL, which is intended to cope with the tautologies of left-continuous conjunctive idempotent uninorms and their residua, and some schematic extensions of it are introduced as neighbors of RM. The algebraic structures corresponding to them are defined, and standard completeness, completeness on the real unit interval [0, 1], results for them are provided.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply 8-week velocity-based training to domestic professional athletes and the kinematic and kinetic analysis of the 1-RM improvement of back squat and power clean, which can represent strength-power ability, to verify the effectiveness of velocity-based training in Korea and to establish a basic basis. Method: The subjects who participated in this study were 10 professional athletes from K University (age: 21.40 ± 0.97 yrs., height: 179.90 ± 3.54 cm., body mass: 71.298 ± 2.98 kg). All subjects performed back squat and power clean 1-RM before and after 8-weeks of velocity-based training. A 3-dimensional motion analysis with 8 infrared cameras and 4 channels of EMG was performed in this study. A paired t-test was used for statistical verification. The significant level was set at α=.05. Results: Both Back squat and Power Clean 1-RM showed statistically significant increases (p<.05). In the case of back squat, there was no statistically significant difference in both kinematic and kinetic variables (p>.05). In the case of Power Clean, only the quadriceps of Phase 1 showed a statistically significant decrease (p<.05). Conclusion: Domestic professional athletes can improve their strength-power ability through velocity-based training, and such training for at least 8-weeks is considered a way to improve their performance.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to derive new GRM(Generalized Reed-Muller) coefficients for each 2$^n$ polarities using Triangle cell. As the existing methods to generate GRM coefficients, there are Green's method to operate transform matrix with a given RM coefficient and Besslich's method to get other polarities using basic transfer matrices repeatedly. In this paper, Triangle cell is defined so as to obtain GRM coefficients efficiently. After arranging 2$^n$ given RM coefficients of a first row of Triangle cell, sequence modulo sum is peformed in parallel to low column by a fixed numerical formula. To prove the efficiency of proposed arithmetic method, it is compared with Besslich’s method. As the compared result, to calculate GRM coefficients of all polarities to n input variables, Besslich’s method needs 2$^n$$^{-1}$ ${\times}$(2$^n$-1) two-input Ex-ORs and the proposed method needs 2${\times}$(the number of Ex-ORs for n-1 variables)+3$^n$$^{-1}$ for the same system complexity - (lo $g_2$$^n$) $T_{X}$./.

  • This paper presents results of a compressive investigation conducted on weathered soil stabilized with ground bottom ash (GBA) and red mud (RM). The effects of water/binder ratio, RM/GBA ratio, chemical activator (NaOH and $Na_2SiO_3$) and curing time on unconfined compressive strength of stabilized soils were examined. The results show that the water/binder ratio of 1.2 is optimum ratio at which the stabilized soils have the maximum compressive strength. For 28 days of curing, the compressive strength of soils stabilized with alkali-activated GBA and RM varies between 1.5 MPa and 4.1 MPa. The addition of GBA, RM and chemical activators enhanced strength development and the rate of strength improvement was more significant at the later age than at the early age. The potential environmental impacts of stabilized soils were also assessed. The chemical property changes of leachate from stabilized soils were analyzed in terms of pH and concentrations of hazardous elements. The observation revealed that the soil mixture with ground bottom ash and red mud proved environmentally safe.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of one repetition maximum between flat bench press exercise and incline bench press exercise, and so 40 male students of U-university were sampled purposedly, who were skilled in flat bench press and incline bench press exercises. After measuring lRM of each exercise by free barbell weight, the correlation analysis and the simple regression analysis were examined by using SPSS 120 at a significance level .05. The conclusions were as follows; Firstly, it was identified that 1RM of flat bench press exercise and incline bench press exercise were $89.2{\pm}25.9kg$, $67.1{\pm}22.1kg$ respectively, and the coefficient of correlation between two variables was 0.969, so the relationship was positive correlation. Secondly, it was identified that the regression equation predicted 1RM of incline bench press exercise was significant actually and statistically, so it was expressed that the equation was -6.648 + 0.827 (1RM of flat bench press exercise).
