Characterization of Mechanical Properties in the Heat Affected Zones of Alloy 82/182 Dissimilar Metal Weld Joint (Alloy 82/182 이종금속 용접부 열영향부의 기계적물성치 특성 파악)

  • The paper presents the characteristics of mechanical properties within the heat affected zone (HAZ) of dissimilar metal weld between SA508 Gr.1a and F316 stainless steel (SS) with Alloy 82/182 filler metal. Tensile tests were performed using small-size specimens taken from the HAZ regions close to both fusion lines of weld, and the micro-structures were examined using optical microscope (OM) and transmission microscope (TEM). The results showed that significant gradients of the yield stress (YS), ultimate tensile stress (UTS), and elongations were observed within the HAZ of SA508 Gr.1a. This was attributed to the different microstructures within the HAZ. In the HAZ of F316 SS, however, the welding effect dominated the YS and elongation rather than UTS, and TEM micrographs conformed the strengthening in the HAZ of F316 SS was associated with a dislocation-induced strain hardening.

Primary Water Stress Corrosion Crack Growth Rate Tests for Base Metal and Weld of Ni-Cr-Fe Alloy (니켈 합금 모재 및 용접재의 일차수응력부식균열 균열성장속도 시험)

  • Alloy 600/182 with excellent mechanical/chemical properties have been utilized for nuclear power plants. Although both alloys are known to have superior corrosion resistance, stress corrosion cracking failure has been an issue in primary water environment of nuclear power plants. Therefore, primary water stress corrosion crack (PWSCC) growth rate tests were conducted to investigate crack growth properties of Alloy 600/182. To investigate PWSCC growth rate, test facilities including water chemistry loop, autoclave, and loading system were constructed. In PWSCC crack growth rate tests, half compact-tension specimens were manufactured. These specimens were then placed inside of the autoclave connected to the loop to provide primary water environment. Tested conditions were set at temperature of $360^{\circ}C$ and pressure of 20MPa. Real time crack growth rates of specimens inside the autoclave were measured by Direct Current potential drop (DCPD) method. To confirm inter-granular (IG) crack as a characteristic of PWSCC, fracture surfaces of tested specimens were observed by SEM. Finally, crack growth rate was derived in a specific stress intensity factor (K) range and similarity with overseas database was identified.

  • [ $Zr_{50}-Ni_{27}-Nb_{18}-Co_5$ ] amorphous alloys ribbon was prepared by a single-roller melt-spinning technique. In order to improve the hydrogen kinetics Pd-coating were carried out on each side of the amorphous ribbon. Pd prevents oxidation of Zr and catalyses the dissociation of molecular hydrogen to atomic hydrogen. In this work, the hydrogen embrittlement and surface properties on Zr-based amorphous alloys were investigated. The Zr-based amorphous alloys were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The morphology of surface and roughness was observed by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). A lattice parameter of both Pd and Zr-based amorphous alloy was increased after hydrogen permeation at 473 K. After hydrogen permeation at 473 K, some cracks were observed on the surface of Pd, which was the cause for the hydrogen embrittlement. The crystallization temperature of Zr-based amorphous alloy was decreased due to the permeated hydrogen.

Cyclic Creep Properties of Nicoseal(Fe-29Ni-17Co) Alloy (Nicoseal(Fe-29Ni-17Co) 합금의 Cyclic 크리프 특성)

  • The steady state cyclic mechanism, and the behaviour of Nicoseal(Fe-29Ni-17Co) have been examined under the condition of square wave stress cyclic tension creep test at the temperature, stress and frequency range of $430{\sim}470^{\circ}C$($0.41{\sim}0.43T_m$), 353~383 MPa, and 3 cpm, respectively. Also, the relationship between cyclic creep and static creep have been examined. The stress exponents(n) for the static creep deformation of this alloy were 11.6, 10.0, 8.4 and 7.9 at the temperature of 430, 445, 460 and $470^{\circ}C$, respectively. The apparent activation energies (Q) for the static creep deformation were 54.2, 51.8, 49.7 and 46.8 kcal/mole for the stress of 353, 363, 373 and 383 MPa, From the above results, it could be considered that the cyclic creep accelaration phenomena was obtained and that the cyclic deformation for Nicoseal seemed to be controlled by dislocation climb over the range of experimental conditions. Nicoseal alloy under the cyclic creep conditions was obtained as P=(T+460)(logt+17). The failure plane observed by SEM showed up transgranular fracture at all range.

A Study on the Characteristics for the Blanking of Lead Frame with the Rectangular Shape Blanking (사각형 블랭킹을 통한 리드프레임의 블랭킹 특성에 관한 기초연구)

  • An experiment is carried out to investigate the characteristics of blanking for copper alloy C194 (t=0.254mm), a kind of IC lead frame material. By varying clearance between die and punch, the shapes of shear profile are examined. Finite element analysis with element deletion algorithm for ductile fracture mode is also carried out to study the effect of clearance theoretically and to compare with experimental results. The rectangular shape specimen with four different corner radius is used to study the characteristics of blanking for straight side and corner region simultaneously. As the result, the ratios measured from the experiment of roll over, burnish, and fracture zone based on intial blank thickness are compared with those of FE analysis. Both experiment and FE analysis show that the amount of roll over and fracture is increased as the clearance increases. It has been found that larger clearance is required than that of straight region when the radius of corner is less than thickness of blank, in order to maintain same quality of shear profile at the corner region.
