The ShortStack Micro Server enables any product that contains a microcontroller or microprocessor to quickly and inexpensively become a networked, Internet-accessible device. The ShortStack Micro Server provides a simple way to add LonWorks networking to new or existing smart devices. . It implements the LonTalk protocol and provides the physical interface with the LonWorks communication. The ShortStack host processor can be an 8, 16, or 32-bit microprocessor or microcontrollers. The ShortStack API and driver typically require about 4kbytes of program memory on the host processor and less than 200 bytes of RAM. The interface between host processor and the ShortStack Micro Server may be a Serial Communication Interface (SCI). The LonWorks control module with a high performance is developed, which is composed of the 8 bit PIC Microprocessor for host processor and the smart neuron chip for the ShortStack Micro Server. This intelligent control board is verified as proceeding the various function tests from experimental system with an boost pump and inverter driving systems. It is also confirmed that the developed control module provides stably 0-10VDC linear signal to the input signal of inverter driving system for varying the induction motor speed. Thus, the experimental results show that the fabricating intelligent board carried out very well the various functions in the wide operating ranges of boost pump system. This developed control module expect to apply to industrial fields to require the comparatively exact control and monitoring such as multi-motor driving system with inverter, variable air volume system and the boost pump water supply systems.

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) will soon become an important technology in various industries. Therefore, security mechanisms for Rm systems are emerging crucial problems in RFID systems. In order to guarantee privacy and security, it is desirable to encrypt the transferred data with a strong crypto algorithm. In this paper, we present the ultra-light weight Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) processor which is suitable for RFID tags. The AES processor requires only 3,992 logic gates and is capable of both 128-bit encryption and decryption. The processor takes 446 clock cycles for encryption of a 128-bit data and 607 clock cycles for decryption. Therefore, it shows 55% improved result in encryption and 40% in decryption from previous cases.
This paper presents an Implementation of Korean standard 128-bit block cipher SEED for the small (8 or 16-bits) embedded system using a low-cost FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) chip. Due to their limited computing and storage capacities most of the 8-bits/16-bits small embedded systems require a separate and dedicated cryptography processor for data encryption and decryption process which require relatively heavy computation job. So, in order to integrate the SEED with other logic circuit block in a single chip we need to invent a design which minimizes the area demand while maintaining the proper performance. But, the straight-forward mapping of the SEED specification into hardware design results in exceedingly large circuit area for a low-cost FPGA capacity. Therefore, in this paper we present a design which maximize the resource sharing and utilizing the modern FPGA features to reduce the area demand resulting in the successful implementation of the SEED plus interface logic with single low-cost FPGA. We achieved 66% area accupation by our SEED design for the XC2S100 (a Spartan-II series FPGA from Xilinx) and data throughput more than 66Mbps. This Performance is sufficient for the small scale embedded system while achieving tight area requirement.
We implemented a CD signal processor operated on a CAV 48-speed CD-ROM drive into a VLSI. The CD signal processor is a mixed mode monolithic IC including servo-processor, data recovery, data-processor, and I-bit DAC. For servo signal processing, we included a DSP core, while, for CAV mode playback, we adopted a PLL with a wide recovery range. Data processor (DP) was designed to meet the yellow book specification.[2]So, the DP block consists of EFM demodulator, C1/C2 ECC block, audio processor and a block transferring data to an ATAPI chip. A modified Euclid's algorithm was used as a key equation solver for the ECC block To achieve the high-speed decoding, the RS decoder is operated by a pipelined method. Audio playability is increased by playing a CD-DA disc at the speed of 12X or 16X. For this, subcode sync and data are processed in the same way as main data processing. The overall performance of IC is verified by measuring a transfer rate from the innermost area of disc to the outermost area. At 48-speed, the operating frequency is 210 ㎒, and this chip is fabricated by 0.35 um STD90 cell library of Samsung Electronics.

In this paper, as a study of programmable software radio digital communication, we implemented ASK(Amplitude Shift Keying), FSK(Frequency Shift Keying), and PSK(Phase Shift Keying) modulation using programmable software(algorithm) of DSP(Digital Signal Processor). Moreover, it is possible to select one of those three modulation methods by realizing on single DSP. We adopted Motorola DSP56002 and Crystal CS4215(A/D and D/A converter) for our purpose. The DSP56002 is 24-bit and operates 20 MIPS at 40 MHz, and the CS4215 is 16-bit and supports the maximum 50 kHz sampling frequency.
Recently, deep neural networks (DNNs) are actively used for action control so that an autonomous system, such as the robot, can perform human-like behaviors and operations. Unlike recognition tasks, the real-time operation is essential in action control, and it is too slow to use remote learning on a server communicating through a network. New learning techniques, such as reinforcement learning (RL), are needed to determine and select the correct robot behavior locally. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient DNN processor with a LUT-based processing engine and near-zero skipper. A CNN-based facial emotion recognition and an RNN-based emotional dialogue generation model is integrated for natural HRI system and tested with the proposed processor. It supports 1b to 16b variable weight bit precision with and 57.6% and 28.5% lower energy consumption than conventional MAC arithmetic units for 1b and 16b weight precision. Also, the near-zero skipper reduces 36% of MAC operation and consumes 28% lower energy consumption for facial emotion recognition tasks. Implemented in 65nm CMOS process, the proposed processor occupies 1784×1784 um2 areas and dissipates 0.28 mW and 34.4 mW at 1fps and 30fps facial emotion recognition tasks.

This paper introduces an SIMD(Single Instruction Multiple Data) based parallel processor that efficiently processes massive data inherent in multimedia. In addition, this paper implements MMX(MultiMedia eXtension)-type instructions on the data parallel processor and evaluates and analyzes the performance of the MMX-type instructions. The reference data parallel processor consists of 16 processors each of which has a 32-bit datapath. Experimental results for a JPEG compression application with a 1280x1024 pixel image indicate that MMX-type instructions achieves a 50% performance improvement over the baseline instructions on the same data parallel architecture. In addition, MMX-type instructions achieves 100% and 51% improvements over the baseline instructions in energy efficiency and area efficiency, respectively. These results demonstrate that multimedia specific instructions including MMX-type have potentials for widely used many-core GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) and any types of parallel processors.

This paper deals with tIne interface error in the on-line computer systems by using the FSK radio communications. The wideband frequency shrift keying method is used for briary data transmission between the remote terminals and the main computer. To mintmize the error rate In the decoder systems of the main computer, a synchronizing pulse is added to the frame, so that the phase In both receiver and transmitter are synchronized. When the information signal with a constant error bit is received through FSK, It is designed to use the microprocessor for calculation of error bit. As results, most bit error are caused in FSK radio communications. and a few error bit Is me - asured to enter the mirroprocessor from the input buffer.

In this paper, the parallel branch instruction is proposed which executes a branch instruction and the frequently used instruction simultaneously to improve the performance of Thumb-2 instruction set architecture. In the proposed approach, new 32-bit parallel branch instructions are introduced which combine 16-bit branch instruction with each of the frequently used 16-bit LOAD, ADD, MOV, STORE, and SUB instructions, respectively. To provide the encoding space of the new instructions, the register field in less frequently executed instructions is reduced, and the new instructions are encoded by using the saved bits. Experiments show that the proposed approach improves performance by an average of 8.0% when compared to the conventional approach.
The method and results of the software implementation of a echo processor for medical ultrasound imaging using a GPU (NVIDIA G80) is presented. The echo signal processing functions are modified in a SIMD manner suitable for the GPU's massively parallel processing architecture so that the GPU's 128 ALUs are utilized nearly 100%. The preliminary result for a frame of image composed of 128 scan lines, each having 10240 16-bit samples, shows that the echo processor can be inplemented at a high rate of 30 frames per second when implemented in C, which is close to the optimized assembly codes running on the TI's TMS320C6416 DSP.
