  • Purpose : This study aimed to explore how prevalent the community-related methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) was in children with muscular-skeletal infections. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients of 18 years or under who were diagnosed with suppurative arthritis or osteomyelitis and S. aureus from September 2000 through August 2012 at the CHA Bundang Medical center. Results : Thirty-one cases of suppurative arthritis or osteomyelitis were identified. The patients were between 17 days old and 18 years old with an average age of 7. Eleven cases (33.5%) of suppurative arthritis and 16 cases (51.6%) of osteomyelitis were observed. Five cases were accompanied by the two diseases. Methicillin sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) was isolated in 25 cases (80.6%) and methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was isolated in 6 cases (19.4%). Multidrug resistant strains were not observed. MRSA was not found from 2000 through 2005. All patients were treated with antibiotics and the duration of antibiotics treatment was $26.4{\pm}12.7$ days. Vancomycin was used as the initial antibiotic treatment in 4 cases (12.9%) and vancomycin was used as the definitive antibiotics in the 10 cases (32.3%). Conclusions : The result of this study showed that methicillin resistance rate of S. aureus from muscular-skeletal infections was concentrated in the latter half of the 12 year period.

  • This study was to develop environmental education activities using advertisement as well as investigate the effect of environmental education using advertisements on children's eco-friendly attitudes and environmental preservation knowledge. The effect of the environmental education activity using advisements was examined based on 24 children aged five attending a daycare center located in Incheon metropolitan city (12 in the experimental group and 12 in the control group). This study was executed 12 times (twice a week) in both the experimental group and comparative group as the environmental education using advertisements was developed and executed in the experimental group as environmental education according to the life theme's in the Nuri curriculum of the comparative group. The instruments used in this study were the children's eco-friendly attitude scale (two factors, 18 items) and environmental preservation knowledge scale (four factors, 16 items). Children's eco-friendly attitude and environmental preservation knowledge were assessed by pre-tests and post-tests using the SPSS ver. 18.0 program. Results indicated that after 6 weeks application, the experimental group exhibited higher scores than the control group in the children's eco-friendly attitude as well as environmental preservation knowledge. This study showed that environmental education activities using advertisement had a positive effect on children's eco-friendly attitudes and environmental preservation knowledge.

  • Objectives: Intraoral appliances (IOA) are applied in the clinical practice of Korean medicine to improve the balance between yin and yang of the body such as temporomandibular joint balancing medicine. Historical examples of IOA were not well known. This study reports prototype IOA's described in medical classics. Methods: Several medical classics of 12th to 19th centuries were narratively reviewed for prototypical descriptions of IOA's in the context of clinical practice. Results: IOA's in the medical classics reviewed adopted such materials as bamboo, chopsticks, and coins that were adjusted in the height and were used as a temporary IOA's with response of the patient being monitored. IOA's were applied integratively with herbal medicine for diverse complaints such as pain, hearing problem, cough, asthma, and rhinorrhea. Conclusions: Prototype IOA's in the medical classics suggest an individualized, integrative, and holistic principle and usage of IOA's in the tradition of Korean medicine.

  • In this paper, focusing on Oscar Wilde's novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray," we explore the protagonist's lack of conscience and unethical attitude, emphasizing its relevance to our self-development and growth. The primary goal is to interpret the impact of Dorian Gray's actions and choices on personal development and growth, highlighting the importance of a specific mindset and attitude to the reader. It dissects how Wilde navigates the intricate layers of Dorian's character, exposing the ethical dilemmas and transformative moments that contribute to the profound changes within him. The examination sheds light on the depth and complexity of Dorian Gray's character, offering readers a nuanced understanding of the forces at play in his moral and psychological journey. Interpretation of Wilde's intent to impart lessons on the reader's personal growth and development through Dorian's story is undertaken. The discussion also explores the impact of Dorian's unethical attitude on contemporary readers and its influence on our daily lives and values.

  • A new direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS) is proposed. The DDFS uses a new ROM compression method that divides each ROM in the conventional DDFS into two ROMs (a quantization ROM and an error ROM). The total size of the ROMs in the proposed DDFS is significantly reduced compared to the original ROM. The ROM compression ratio of 78 is achieved for a DDFS with 12bit output data. A DDFS with 12bit output data for sine function was implemented in a 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology. The power dissipation is 9.56㎽ at 100MHz with 3.3V and the maximum operating clock frequency is 330MHz.

  • Salix koriyanagi is a deciduous shrub and native to Korea. The spatial distribution of multilocus allelic frequencies and geographical distances of the natural population in upper swampy area at the Namgang River in Korea were studied. The species showed a significant positive and negative spatial autocorrelation according to geographical distances as measured by Moran's I. Genetic similarity of individuals was found among subpopulations at up to a scale of a 12 m distance, and this was partly due to a combination of allelic frequencies, and therefore, a significant spatial autocorrelation was composed of a scale of 12 m intervals. Within S. koriyanagi in swampy area at the Namgang River, a strong spatial structure was observed for allozyme markers, indicating a migration within subpopulations.

  • This study performs the dynamic modeling and the simulation of variable speed wind power system and implements the models of wind speed, wind turbine & PMSG, and MPPT & pitch control as well. The simulation of wind turbine was performed by using the power coefficient and other simulation parameters which were extracted with reference to the commercial 5MW class wind turbine data. As the result of this simulation, MPPT control is confirmed, maintaining the maximum power coefficient as far as the rated speed 12[m/s]. Over 12[m/s] wind speed, this wind power system makes it possible to keep the stable output by controlling the pitch angle.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maximum muscle activation of lower extremity of facility dwelled elderly Hansen's disease after isometric trunk exercise for 12weeks. Methods:18 elderly Hansen's disease who isometric trunk exercise for 12weeks were recruited for this study. They were instructed to perform maximum muscle activation of lower extremity after exercise. and the subjects were divided into normal sensory group, sensory loss in left foot group, sensory loss in right foot group and sensory loss in both feet group, according to the sensory condition ability on their soles. Results : After exercise, Hamstring muscle increased significantly (p<.05), and activation of the rectus femoris muscle decreased with a significance (p<05). In terms of Post-hoc test for examining the difference in MVIC according to sensory condition, there was significant difference in the normal sensory group, sensory loss in right and left foot group of left hamstring muscle before the exercise(p=.01) and the normal sensory group, sensory loss in both feet group of right hamstring muscle before the exercise(p=.04). Conclusion : These results indicate that the maximum muscle activation was changed after isometric trunk exercise. it could be improved maximum muscle activation of lower extremity muscle after the exercise although there was sensory loss.
