  • In this paper new 60-step inverter system for medium-to-large scale STATCOM is proposed and operating principle along with control method is detailed. A simple auxiliary circuit is employed to Improve output voltage waveform of 12-step into 60-step. The proposed scheme could be a cost effective approach in high power application such as 10Mvar to 30Mvar STATCOM. Experimental results from a 2KVA laboratory prototype show validity of the proposed method.

  • To investigate walkability of ramps, walking patterns of 18 healthy adults,12 aged 20 to 26 and 6 aged 68 to 76,were studied at free, rhythm constrained walking up or down ramp using goniometer and footswitch Ramp inclinations were set 4,8,12,16,20 degrees. The results were as follows. 1)The step length of subjects were decreased significantly in12$^{\circ}C$′or 16′free downramp walking. With regard to step length, some subject groups walked abnormally in 16" or 20" ramp walking 2) The step width of subjects were increased significantly in 12" or 16" ramp walking. 3) The cadence duration of some subject groups were increased in 12" upramp walking. 4) The double stance duration and double stance ratio of some subject groups were increased significantly in 8",12", or 16"upramp walking. 5) The maximum knee flexion angle of stance phase were increased in 12" ramp walking. 6)Most temporal parameters and spatial parameters of gait were increased or decreassd greatly between 4" ramp and 8" ramp or between 8′ramp and 12′ramp. But statistics significancy were not recognized 7) The results suggest that ramp inclination less than 8′(14%) -12′(21%) is desirable for the normal gait the ramp inclination must not exceed 16" -20" in unavoidable circumstances.

  • Spermiogenesis in Japanese white-toothed shrew. Crocidura dsinezumi was investigated by transmission electron microscope. Spermiogenesis was divided into 12 phases 14 steps, based on the morphological features of the nucleus and change of organelles in cytoplasm. The nucleus of spermatids in Golgi (step $1{\sim}2$) phase were spherical; however, they were changed into oval in the cap (step $3{\sim}6$) phase. Flagellum appeared in the middle of acrosomal phase; on the other hand, slender and long spermatid head was formed in maturation phase. The head of spermatids faced the lumen in step 1 to step 6 (from Golgi to cap phase), but, in step 7 to step 14 (from acrosomal to spermiation phase), it turned its head to the basal lamina of the seminiferous epithelium. The nucleus and acrosome were elongated maximally in step 10. The condensation of chromatin started in late acrosomal (step 10) phase, and it was completely finished and homogenized in the middle of maturation (step 12) phase. Multivesicular body appeared near the acrosomal vacuole during the middle cap (step 5) phase, and a large number of them were observed near the Golgi apparatus in the late cap (step 6) phase. Considering all the results, the spermiogenesis might be useful information to analyse the differentiation of spermatogenic fells.

  • Values of process parameters in sheet metal forming can be estimated by various one-step inverse methods. One-step inverse methods based on deformation theory, however, cause some amount of error. The amount of error is generally increased as the deformation path becomes more complex. As a remedy, a new three dimensional multi-step inverse method is introduced for optimum design of blank shapes and strain distributions from desired final shapes. The approach extends a one-step inverse method to a multi-step inverse method in order to reduce the amount of error. The algorithm developed is applied to square cup drawing to confirm its validity by demonstrating reasonably accurate numerical results. Rapid calculation with this algorithm enables easy determination of an initial blank of sheet metal forming.

  • SHACAL is based on the hash standard SHA-1 used in encryption mode, as a submission to NESSIE. SHACAL uses the XOR, modular addition operation and the functions of bit-by-bit manner. These operations and functions make the differential cryptanalysis difficult, i.e, we hardly find a long differential with high probability. But, we can find short differentials with high probability. Using this fact, we discuss the security of SHACAL against the amplified boomerang attack. We find a 36-step boomerang-distinguisher and present attacks on reduced-round SHACAL with various key sizes. We can attack 39-step with 256-bit key, and 47-step with 512-bit key.

  • Step discontinuities of microstrip lines are analyzed using the mode-matching technique based on the well-known waveguide model. Including higher-order modes, the generalized scattering matrices are obtained. Asymmetrical step discontinuities as well as symmetrical step discontinuities are analyzed. The resonance characteristics of microstrip patches are calculated by cascading two microstrip step discontinuities through a uniform microstrip line. Experimental results agree well with theroretical ones.

  • A two-step process was investigated for pretreatment and fractionation of rice straw. The two-step fractionation process involves first, soaking rice straw in aqueous ammonia (SAA) in a batch reactor to recover lignin-rich hydrolysate. This is followed by a second-step treatment in a fixed-bed flow-through column reactor to recover xylo-oligomer-rich hydrolysate. The remaining glucan-rich solid cake is then subjected to an enzymatic process. In the first variant, SAA treatment in the first step dissolves lignin at moderate temperature (60 and $80^{\circ}C$), while in the second step, hot-water treatment is used for xylan removal at higher temperatures ($150{\sim}210^{\circ}C$). Under optimal conditions ($190^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, 30 min reaction time, 5.0 ml/min flow rate, and 2.3 MPa reaction pressure), the SAA-hot-water fractionation removed 79.2% of the lignin and 63.4% of the xylan. In the second variant, SAA was followed by treatment with dilute sulfuric acid. With this process, optimal treatment conditions for effective fractionation of xylo-oligomer were found to be $80^{\circ}C$, 12 h reaction time, solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:12 in the first step; and 5.0 ml $H_2SO_4/min$, $170^{\circ}C$, and 2.3 MPa in the second step. After this two-step fractionation process, 85.4% lignin removal and 78.9% xylan removal (26.8% xylan recovery) were achieved. Use of the optimized second variant of the two-step fractionation process (SAA and $H_2SO_4$) resulted in enhanced enzymatic digestibility of the treated solid (99% glucan digestibility) with 15 FPU (filter paper unit) of CTec2 (cellulase)/g-glucan of enzyme loading, which was higher than 92% in the two-step fractionation process (SAA and hot-water).

  • In this paper, step-curing, which includes the change of curing temperature on the curing process, was applied to reduce curing day of HTPB/AP based propellant. This study targets the improvement of productivity of HTPB/AP based solid rocket motor. Comparison of mechanical properties of propellant resulted in the change of normal curing condition (60℃, 5 days) to step-curing condition (60℃, 1 day / 65℃, 3 days). Post-cure test was conducted to determine the impact on the shelf life of the solid rocket motor. The aging characteristics of propellants were analyzed by measuring mechanical properties and thermal expansion factor. To step-cured propellant, accelerated aging test was performed for 12 weeks, followed by tensile test. Sm(bar) and Em(%) were higher than 8 bar and 40% each, showing excellent mechanical properties.

  • Although the STEP modularization is the major development methodology for STEP Application Protocol, there have been few studies on the STEP Modularization in Korea. The necessity of STEP Modularization research has been raised continuously. In addition, the importance became larger and larger because most of newly developing APs, including AP241, are developed using modularization approach. The object of this study is to investigate the basic structure and contents of AEC facilities related Application Modules using STEP Modularization. This study examines 1) the technical analysis regarding STEP Modularization, 2) application modules development regarding civil engineering elements of AP241; Aec_faciliteis_classification", "Aec_civil_item", and "Aec_civil_componet", 3) the developed application modules verification, and 4) the implementation methodology suggestion for application modules and modular AP.
