  • '타이포잔치 2013: 서울 국제 타이포그래피 비엔날레'가 8월 30일 개막식을 시작으로 10월 11일까지 문화역서울284(구 서울역사)에서 열린다. 이 행사는 문화체육관광부(장관 유진룡)가 주최하고 (재)한국공예디자인문화진흥원과 한국타이포그라피학회 공동 주관으로 진행된다. 특히 10월 8일에는 '한글날 전야제'가 문화역서울 284, RTO 공연장에서 열린다.

  • 11월부터 내년 2월까지 고병원성 조류인플루엔자 특별방역기간이기에, 이에 대한 세미나를 지난 10월 말에 경기도청에서 주관하였다. 필자는 그곳에서 주요양계 질병의 발생동향과 질병관리에 대해 발표했는데, 이때 참석한 농가에서 여러 질문사항이 있었다. 비슷한 의문사항을 가지고 있었던 다른 농장에도 작은 도움이 되기를 바라면서, 질의된 내용과 필자의 답변을 좀 더 정리하여 기고하고자 한다.

Reproductive Ecology of the Bladder Moon, Glossaulax didyma (Gastropoda: Naticidae) in Western Korea (한국 서해산 큰구슬우렁이, Glossaulax didyma (복족강: 구슬우렁이과) 의 번식생태)

  • The reproductive cycle, egg capsules in the egg-mass, first sexual maturity, and sex ratio of the bladder moon, Glossaulax didyma ($R\ddot{o}ding$) were investigated. The gastropods collected from the intertidal zone of Biin Bay, Seocheon, Korea were studied by using histological analysis and morphometric data. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) of females and males began to increase in March and reached maximum in May. Then their values sharply decreased from late in May to August due to spawning. The condition index (CI) began to increase in February and reached maximum in May, then gradually declined in the spawning period. The CI calculated for determination of the spawning period was coincided with changes in the GSI and gonadal phases. Spawning occurred between late in May to August in females and early in May to August in males. Spawning peak was observed between July and August when the seawater temperature rose to 19 $^{\circ}C$. Reproductive cycle with the gonadal development phases of this species can be divided into five successive stages in females and four in males: in females, early active stage (December to February), late active stage (February to March), ripe stage (April recovery stage (August to November); in males, active stage (December to March), ripe stage (March to July), copulation stage (early May to August), and recovery stage (August to January). Fully matured oocytes were approximately 250-270 ${\mu}m$ in size. The egg-mass was a hat in shape, and a number of egg capsules were found in an egg-mass. An egg capsule was 0.53-0.57 mm in size. An embryo (veliger larva) hatched from an egg capsule. Percentage of first sexual maturity in females and males were over 50% for individuals that are 40.1-45.0 mm in shell radius, and 100% for those that are over 45.1 mm. The sex ratio of female to male was significantly different from 1:1 $(x^2\;=\;57.22,\;p\;<\;0.05)$.

Effect of Shading Treatment on the Growth of Spinach(Spinacia oleracea) Affected by Different Growing Periods in Summer Greenhouse. (여름철 온실의 재배시기별 시금치 생육에 대한 차광효과)

  • This experiments were carried out to investigate the growth responses of spinach to temperature controlling by shading treatments at different times during the summer, and the effects of environmental parameters on the growth and yield were evaluated. The fourth cultivation was showed maximum temperature at air temperature of 33.1$^{\circ}C$ and soil temperature of 28.6$^{\circ}C$, followed by third, second, fifth and first cultivation. Among the tested temperature decreasing by shading, shading with silver - coated PE film strips was the most effective in lowering greenhouse air temperatures by showing 1.1$^{\circ}C$ decrease as compared to the outside air temperature and 3.1$^{\circ}C$ decrease as compared to the air temperatures inside the non-shaded PE house and 2.3$^{\circ}C$ decrease as compared to the air temperaturese shading with black- coated PE film strips, the soil temperature was showing 2$^{\circ}C$ decrease in both shading treatments than non-shaded PE and outdoor. In first cultivation, difficult cultivated as compared to others period owing to bolting of spinach. This first period was cultivated used two domestic cultivars and six imported cultivars, significantly better growth and higher yield of spinach were recorded in glory, manchuparuk and sunlighr cultivars. The effectiveness of shading on spinach, as expressed by the crop yield increase, was the highest in the planting from July 1 to August 24.

Seroprevalance of Newcastle Disease Virus in Wild Birds in Korea (국내 야생 조류에서의 뉴캣슬병 바이러스 항체분포율 조사)

  • Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infects a variety of birds with a wide range of clinical signs from asymptomatic to severe. During a 10-month period in 2011, a total of 1,024 sera from wild birds including 42 species of birds in 8 orders were collected and the seroprevalence of NDV in wild birds was evaluated by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test. Evidence of NDV infection was observed in 12.6% (129/1,024) of wild birds with a maximum prevalence reported in Mandarin duck (27.8%, 32/115) followed by Mallard duck (20.8%, 57/274), Spot-billed duck (11.9%, 36/303), Pintail (2.9%, 1/34), Black-tailed gull (2.9%, 1/34), White-fronted goose (1.8%, 1/56) and Common teal (1.4%, 1/69). None of the other 35 species of wild birds were antibody-positive for NDV. Mandarin duck, Mallard duck and Spot-billed duck showed high sero-prevalance of 12.2% to 42% during winter season (November to March). Our results indicate that Mandarin duck, Mallard duck and Spot-billed duck might be natural reservoirs for NDV in Korea and the prevalence of NDV infection in wild birds displayed a seasonal pattern with high prevalence of NDV in winter season (November to March).

Root Dynamics of a Pine Stand at Hongcheon Determined by Two Kinds of Soil Samplers (두 가지 토양(土壤) 시료(試料) 채취기(採取器)를 이용한 홍천(洪川) 소재(所在) 소나무림(林)의 근계동태(根系動態) 분석(分析))

  • Root dynamics of a pine stand at Hongcheon, Korea was assayed with two kinds of soil samplers which had been tentatively manufactured to renovate the routine soil sampler, Oakfield soil sampler. Root-mixed soil samples were collected on December of 1995, March, May, August and December of 1996 within each randomly selected 8 plots. The amount of roots collected by the two kinds of soil samplers were not significantly different at the 5% level, which indicated that the renovated sampler was more desirable to be used since the sampler showed efficiencies in time for collection and quantification than the routine sampler. The quantities of total root in 100g soils were 469mg on December of 1995, and 352mg, 473mg, 461mg, 522mg on the following March, May, August and December, respectively. That is, total amount of roots showed the smallest in Spring and reached maximum in early Winter, although the differences were not significant among each season. By the way, the alive roots and dead roots showed significant differences among season, the alive roots took about 90% from May to early December while they decreased down to some 65% from late December to March. The roots of Pinus densiflora S. et Z. took about 46% of total roots although the species comprised 70% of crown layer, and the ratio of fine-roots of the species were higher than that of other species. By the way, the dynamics of total roots and that of alive roots were quite different. Thus, the study for root dynamics such as fine roots which take a major role for mycorrhizae formation or nutrient uptake should not be inferred from the data of total root dynamics but be investigated in detail by dividing them into each class.

Monthly temperature forecasting using large-scale climate teleconnections and multiple regression models (대규모 기후 원격상관성 및 다중회귀모형을 이용한 월 평균기온 예측)

  • In this study, the monthly temperature of the Han River basin was predicted by statistical multiple regression models that use global climate indices and weather data of the target region as predictors. The optimal predictors were selected through teleconnection analysis between the monthly temperature and the preceding patterns of each climate index, and forecast models capable of predicting up to 12 months in advance were constructed by combining the selected predictors and cross-validating the past period. Fore each target month, 1000 optimized models were derived and forecast ranges were presented. As a result of analyzing the predictability of monthly temperature from January 1992 to December 2020, PBIAS was -1.4 to -0.7%, RSR was 0.15 to 0.16, NSE was 0.98, and r was 0.99, indicating a high goodness-of-fit. The probability of each monthly observation being included in the forecast range was about 64.4% on average, and by month, the predictability was relatively high in September, December, February, and January, and low in April, August, and March. The predicted range and median were in good agreement with the observations, except for some periods when temperature was dramatically lower or higher than in normal years. The quantitative temperature forecast information derived from this study will be useful not only for forecasting changes in temperature in the future period (1 to 12 months in advance), but also in predicting changes in the hydro-ecological environment, including evapotranspiration highly correlated with temperature.

Growth and Bulb Characteristics of Extremely Early-Maturing Onion by Air Temperature Variation at Different Altitudes (해발고도별 기온변화에 따른 극조생 양파의 생육 및 구특성)

  • A study was carried out to determine the influence of climatic environments on the growth characteristics and bulb quality of extremely early-maturing type onion grown at different altitudes, such as 60m, 200m, 350m and 700m above sea level (ASL). The mean air temperature during the growing season of extremely early-maturing type onion (October 18 to April 27) was $10.8^{\circ}C$, $9.6^{\circ}C$, $8.1^{\circ}C$ and $6.1^{\circ}C$ at 60m, 200m, 350m and 700m ASL. The mean air temperature during the bulb growth period (March 16 to April 14) was recorded $10.5^{\circ}C$, $9.4^{\circ}C$, $7.9^{\circ}C$ and $6.0^{\circ}C$ at 60m, 200m, 350m and 700 m ASL. Plant height, neck diameter, leaf number, leaf area, top fresh weight and top dry weight were significantly increased in growing of extremely early-maturing type onion at 60m ASL. Bulb/neck diameter ratio increased rapidly under the same temperature regime. The diameter and weight of the bulb were also the largest at 60m ASL during the bulb growth period (daily mean temperature of $12.5^{\circ}C$). At 60m ASL, there was the highest bulb size like a height, diameter and weight of bulb related directly on onion yield in the bulb growth period from March 16 to April 14. In contrast, yield and bulb quality were considerably decreased at 700m ASL during the bulb growth stage (daily mean temperature of $8.4^{\circ}C$). The quantity of extremely early-maturing type onion has gradually decreased as the daily average temperature drops below $12.5^{\circ}C$ during the bulb growth stage (March 16 to April 14). As a result, the lower temperature (daily mean temperature below $12.5^{\circ}C$) during the bulb growth stage significantly decreased the size and quantity of bulb in direction proportion.

  • 농림부는 지난 11월 10일 도매시장 돼지평균가격 산정방법을 개선하여 '98년 12월부터 가격발표 방식을 변경할 수 있도록 시.도 등 관련기관에 협조를 요청했다. 농림부는 각 시.도, 본회, 축산물등급판정소, 육류수출입협회 등 관련기관에 공문을 보내 "현행 도매시장 전체평균가격 정산제도에 미흡한 점이 있어 비육돈 평균가격 기준으로 정산방법을 바꾸도록 유도한다"고 밝히고, "시.도 및 관계기관에서는 도매시장에 조속히 알려 '98년 12월부터 가격발표 방식을 변경하도록 협조하여 줄 것"과 "적정지급률이 만들어 지도록 관내 육가공업체와 농가간에 공청회, 간담회 등을 개최하여 여론형성을 하고, 그 결과를 알려줄 것" 등을 요청했다. 다음은 농림부의 도매시장 돼지평균가격 산정방법 개선내용이다.

  • 건설업계의 뜨거운 감자였던 건설산업기본법 개정안이 지난 11월 7일 국무회의에서 의결, 통과됨으로써 12월 5일 국회 건설교통위원회 법안심사소위원회 상정과 12월 6일 국회 건설교통위원회에서 의결을 앞두고 있다. 대한설비건설협회는 이번 건산법 개정에서 건교부가 주장하는 선진화된 건설생산체계 개선이 되기 위해서는 일반∙전문 겸업제한 폐지시 형평에 맞는 법개정이 되어야 한다고 일관되게 주장해 왔다. 즉“일반∙전문 겸업제한을 폐지할 경우 전문건설업자간의 공동도급 금지조항을 폐지하여 단순 복합공사의 원도급 입찰 참가자격 부여와 CM업을 활성화하여 CM에 의한 공종별 발주 등이 필요하다”고 주장했다. 건산법 개정안의 귀추가 주목되는 가운데 대한설비건설협회의 건산법 개정 추진현황을 게재한다.
