  • A 9-month-old, 11.3 kg, intact, male, mixed-breed dog was referred for treatment of cor triatriatum dexter (CTD); a 5-month-old, 1.9 kg, intact, male Maltese for pulmonic stenosis (PS); and a 3-year-old, 6.62 kg, intact, female West Highland white terrier for esophageal stricture with regurgitation. A balloon catheter intervention was performed in the dog with CTD, and subsequent color Doppler ultrasound and abdominal ultrasound showed normal blood flow across the perforated membrane dividing the right atrium and the disappearance of the severe ascites present before treatment. Balloon catheter intervention in the dog with PS reduced the blood flow through the stenosis from 5.82 m/s to 3.97 m/s. In the dog with esophageal stricture, balloon catheter intervention widened the esophagus and no subsequent regurgitation was observed. Balloon catheter intervention is an interventional radiology procedure that represents a definitive treatment option for various stenotic lesions in dogs, including CTD, PS, and esophageal stricture. Although interventional radiology procedures for these diseases have already been reported, details of procedures and successful outcome have not been reported in Korea.

Breed in cattle reacted as positive condition in Akabane antibody 76 heads(42%) in 180 cattles reacted as positive condition in Akabane antibody, 23 heads(51%) in 45 Korea native cattle reacted as positive condition in Akabane antibody. 2. During 5, 9, 10, 11 month, Akabane antibody in cattle is over 45%. 3. Less of 2 years old and over 4 years old cattle are Akabane antibody in cattle is over 40%. 4. The relation of titer of 2 folds of dilution HA and 10 folds of dilution TCID$_{50}$ was same relation.n.

  • In prolonged chronic osteomyelitis, chronic inflammation and low-grade infections can result in new periosteal bone formation. Chronic osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis (traditionally termed $Garr{\acute{e}^{\prime}s$ sclerosing osteomyelitis) mainly affects children and young adults. Here, we present two rare cases of an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old patient with suppurative chronic osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis without any definitive infection source, such as dental caries or periodontitis. The source of infection was likely to be related to the development of a lower right third molar germ with follicular space widening. Management involved antibiotics and the removal of the third molar germ and surgical debridement. Disease remission and a normal appearance was observed at the six-month follow-up visit.

  • A 11-year, 9-month-old female Shih-tzu was referred for evaluation of the body conditions. According to the physical examination and ultrasonography, the left ovarian mass was detected. For the removal of ovarian mass, an ovariohysterectomy was performed. Grossly, the ovarian mass was full of hairmatrix on the cut surface of the mass. Histopathological findings revealed a characteristic of teratoma, such as laminated keratines, hair, sebaceous glands, neuron tissue, differentiated bone and cartilage. The ovarian mass was well-differentiated components of 2 germ layers, and diagnosed as a mature teratoma.

  • The age and spawning characteristics of Iksookimia pacifica were investigated in this study to provide baseline data for its ecological characteristics in the Bukcheon (stream), Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, Korea from January to December, 2013. Age groups of I. pacifica (female) estimated by the frequency distribution of total length in the spawning season indicated that the 30~49 mm group is 1 year old, the 50~74 mm group is 2 years old, the 75~99 mm group is 3 years old, the 100~124 mm group is 4 years old, and the 130~160 mm group is $5{\leq}$years old. The sex ratio (♂/♀) was 0.63, and females were 30~60 mm larger than males. The lamina circularis at the base of pectoral fins in males as a secondary sexual character was created at the 13th month after hatching. The spawning season according to the gonadosomatic index (GSI) was July to August (main spawning season in July) with water temperatures of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$. The average number of eggs was $2,503{\pm}1,337$ with a diameter of $1.11{\pm}0.04mm$ in mature eggs.

  • KBG syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by intellectual disability, skeletal anomalies, short stature, craniofacial dysmorphism, and macrodontia. ANKRD11 gene mutation and 16q24.3 microdeletion have been reported to cause KBG syndrome. Here, we report two patients with ANKRD11 mutations who initially presented with neurologic symptoms such as developmental delay and seizures. Patient 1 was a 23-month-old boy who presented with a global developmental delay. Language delay was the most dominant feature. He had hypertelorism, hearing impairment, and behavior problems characterized as hyperactivity. A c.1903_1907delAAACA (p.Lys635GInfsTer26) mutation in ANKRD11 was identified with diagnostic exome sequencing. Patient 2 was a 14-month-old boy with developmental delay and seizure. He also had atrial septum defect, and ventricular septal defect. Generalized tonic seizures began at the age of 8 months. Electroencephalography showed generalized sharp and slow wave pattern. Seizures did not respond to antiepileptic drugs. A loss of function mutation c.5350_5351delTC (p.ser1784HisfsTer12) in ANKRD11 was identified with diagnostic exome sequencing. In both cases, characteristic features of KBG syndrome such as short stature or macrodontia, were absent, and they visited the hospital due to neurological symptoms. These findings suggest that more patients with mild phenotypes of KBG syndrome are being recognized with advances in diagnostic exome sequencing genetic technologies.

  • The phase and times on the development of dormancy bud in seedling, and those of flower organs in 2-year-old ginseng are different to those of over 2-,3-year-old plant, respectively. The growing aspects of dormancy bud in seedling were investigated from rooting stage (April, 8) to Mid-June, and those of flower organs in 2-year-old plant had done once in two days late in April after compound leaves were unfolded. Firstly, the formation of dormancy bud in seedling was begun on Mid-late in March. This is early about one month compare with those of over 2-year-old plant. Fine bud in seedling was formed between cotyledons, at W spot under young shoot. Secondly, development of flower organs in 2-year-old plant was completed from late of April to early of May after compound leaves of transplanted plant were unfolded. In tare, this is very different characteristics because plants of any other ages form the flower organs one year ago. Thirdly, flower organs of ginseng plant, over 3-year-old plant, always develop in the rhizome formed one year ago, but those of 2-year-old plant develop in apical shoot meristem.

  • Diphyllobothrium latum infection in humans is not common in Republic of Korea. We report a case of fish tapeworm infection in a 10-year-old boy after ingestion of raw perch about 8 months ago. The patient complained of recurrent abdominal pain and watery diarrhea. A tapeworm, 85 cm in length, without scolex and neck, was spontaneously discharged in the feces of the patient. The patient was treated with 15-mg/kg single dose praziquantel, and follow-up stool examination was negative after one month. There was no evidence of relapse during the next six months.

  • There are many reported cases about foreign bodies in air and food passages in children, but not common about the nasopharynx. It is well known that the most of the foreign bodies in food passages are lodged at the first narrowing of the esophagus and this can be a cause of overlooking the foreign bodies in the nasopharynx. The authors experienced recently a case of foreign body, a coin, lodged in the nasopharynx in a 6-month-old male baby and emphasized the necessity of diagnostic radiological examination must be included the nasopharynx when suspected foreign bodies, especially in children so that it could not be overlooked.
