  • An unmanned ground vehicle(UGV) today plays a significant role in both civilian and military areas. Predominantly these systems are used to replace humans in hazardous situations. To take unmanned ground vehicles systems to the next level and increase their capabilities and the range of missions they are able to perform in the combat field, new technologies are needed in the area of command and control. For this reason, we present war field simulator based on information fusion technology to efficiently control UGV. In this paper, we present the war field simulator which is made of critical components, that is, simulation controller, virtual image viewer, and remote control device to efficiently control UGV in the future combat fields. In our information fusion technology, improved methods of target detection, recognition, and location are proposed. In addition, time reduction method of target detection is also proposed. In the consequence of the operation test, we expect that our war field simulator based on information fusion technology plays an important role in the future military operation significantly.

  • In this paper, we present a prism-based mesh culling method to improve effectiveness of continuous collision detection which is a major bottleneck in a simulation using polygonal mesh models. A prism is defined based on two matching triangles between a sequence of times m a polygonal model. In order to detect potential colliding set(PCS) of prism between two polygonal models in a unit time, we apply the visibility test based on the occlusion query to two sets of prisms which are defined from two polygonal models in a unit time. Moreover, we execute the narrow band culling based on SAT(Separating Axis Test) to define potential colliding prism pairs from PCS of prisms extracted as a result of the visibility test. In the SAT, we examine one axis to be perpendicular to a plane which divides a 3D space into two half spaces to include each prism. In the experiments, we applied the proposed culling method to pairs of polygonal models with the different size and compared the number of potential colliding prism pairs with the number of all possible prism pairs of two polygonal models. We also compared effectiveness and performance of the visibility test-based method with those of the SAT-based method as the second narrow band culling. In an experiment using two models to consist of 2916 and 2731 polygons, respectively, we got potential colliding prism pairs with 99 % of culling rate.

  • The transmit adaptive array requires the forward link channel information for evaluating the optimum transmit weight vector in which a feedback channel provides transmitter with the forward link channel information. The larger transmit adaptive array is, the higher required rate of feedback channel is. Therefore we consider the system that the N-transmit antenna system is expanded to the 2N-transmit antenna system, while the feedback channel is maintained as that of N-transmit antenna system. The increase of the number of antennas can produce the additional diversity gain, however the insufficient feedback bits assigned to each antenna aggravates the quantization error. In this paper, we propose the transmit antenna selection in order to improve the performance of transmit adaptive array having an insufficient feedback channel information. The effective method to transmit the weight vector is also introduced. System performances are investigated for the case of N=4 corresponding to the antenna selection diversity schemes on the flat fading channel and the multipath fading channel. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the system performance by 1 dB when the N is expanded to the 2N, while the feedback channel is restricted to that of N-transmit antenna system.

  • In electronic warfare, the pulse amplitude, one of information of a pulse signal emitted by an enemy, is used for estimating distance from the source and for deinterleaving mixed source signals. An estimate of pulse amplitude is conventionally determined as the maximum magnitude of a Fourier transformed signal within its pulse width which is estimated pre-step in an electronic warfare receiver. However, when frequency modulated signals are received, it is difficult to estimate their pulse amplitudes with this conventional method because the energy of signals is dispersed in frequency domain. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes an enhanced pulse amplitude estimation method which calculates the average power of the received pulse signal in time domain and removes the noise power of the receiver. Simulation results show that even in case the frequency modulated signal is received, the proposed method has the same performance as estimating the pulse amplitude when unmodulated signal is received. In addition, the proposed method is shown to be more robust to an estimation error of pulse width, which affects the estimation performance of pulse amplitude, than the conventional method.

  • Tributyltin compounds have been increasingly used in the form of plastic stabilizers, catalytic agents, industrial agricultural biocides, antifouling paint, and pesticides. Among these organotin compounds, large amounts of tributyltin(TBT) and triphenyltin(TPT) have been used as antifouling agents because they have a superior ability to prevent marine organism from being encrusted on ship bottoms and in culturing nets. Environmental pollution by these organotin compounds in the aquatic environment were undertaken. The international maritime Organization's established a provisional tolerable daily intake(TDI) of 1.6[micro]g TBTO/kg/ B.W. The Food and Agiculture Organization (of the United Nations)/world Health Organization's (FAO/WHO) proposed a TDI of 0.5ug TPT/kg BW/d. This study is conducted monitoring of TBT on seafoods in Korea and risk assessment for exposure on TBT in seafoods. Total hazard index(using Reference Dose : 0.3 ug TBTO/kg B.W/day) of intake exposure on seafoods is 0.04 as the 50th percentile, 0.08 as the 95th percentile. This value is estimated by Monte-Carlo simulation using Crystal Ball(Decisioneering Co., 2001).

  • Images from satellites will have 1 to 3 meter ground resolution and will be very useful for analyzing current status of earth surface. An image processing system named GeoWatch with more intelligent image processing algorithms has been designed and implemented to support the detailed analysis of the land surface using high-resolution satellite imagery. The GeoWatch is a valuable tool for satellite image processing such as digitizing, geometric correction using ground control points, interactive enhancement, various transforms, arithmetic operations, calculating vegetation indices. It can be used for investigating various facts such as the change detection, land cover classification, capacity estimation of the industrial complex, urban information extraction, etc. using more intelligent analysis method with a variety of visual techniques. The strong points of this system are flexible algorithm-save-method for efficient handling of large size images (e.g. full scenes), automatic menu generation and powerful visual programming environment. Most of the existing image processing systems use general graphic user interfaces. In this paper we adopted visual program language for remotely sensed image processing for its powerful programmability and ease of use. This system is an integrated raster/vector analysis system and equipped with many useful functions such as vector overlay, flight simulation, 3D display, and object modeling techniques, etc. In addition to the modules for image and digital signal processing, the system provides many other utilities such as a toolbox and an interactive image editor. This paper also presents several cases of image analysis methods with AI (Artificial Intelligent) technique and design concept for visual programming environment.

  • In the current work, a series of three-dimensional finite element analyses were carried out to understand the behaviour of a pre-existing single pile to the changes of the tunnel face pressures when a shield TBM tunnel passes underneath the pile. The numerical modelling analysed the results by considering various face pressures (25~100% of the in-situ horizontal stress prior to tunnelling at the tunnel springline). In the numerical modelling, several key issues, such as the pile settlements, the axial pile forces, the shear stresses have been thoroughly analysed for different face pressures. The head settlements of the pile with the maximum face pressure decreased by about 44% compared to corresponding settlement with the minimum face pressure. Furthermore, the maximum axial force of the pile developed with the minimum face pressure. The tunnelling-induced axial pile force at the minimum face pressure was found to be about 21% larger than that with the maximum face pressure. It has been found that the ground settlements and the pile settlements are heavily affected by the face pressures. In addition, the influence of the piles and the ground was analysed by considering characteristics of the soil deformations. Also, the apparent safety factor of the piles are substantially reduced for all the analyses conducted in the current simulation, resulting in severe effects on the adjacent piles. Therefore, the behaviour of the piles, according to change the face pressures, has been extensively examined and analysed by considering the key features in great details.

  • This study attempted to develop a bodice prototype that is the basis for the production of upper body clothing for 20s plus-size women who have distinct characteristics from women with general body types. Through this, it was intended to provide basic data necessary for the development of plus-size women's clothing, which is revitalizing the market due to the increase in the obese population. Through the first evaluation of appearance and abdominal pressure, patterns such as moving the side neck, adding the amount of armhole dart, and adding the amount of sagging were modified. Through the second evaluation, corrections such as vertical side lines, reduction of the neck of the back center line, and adding the amount of armhole darts were performed. Through the third evaluation, the final pattern drafting method was developed by vertically modifying the side line and adding the amount of back armhole darts. In the case of 20s plus-size female body types, a drafting method distinguished from the general body type was required in the method of setting the side and hem due to the protrusion of the abdomen. This study can be said to be meaningful in that it proposed a bodice prototype drafting method suitable for the body type of 20s plus-size women. In the follow-up study, it is thought that the wearability should be evaluated through actual garment wearing.

  • This study analyzed the safety of evacuation according to the number of exits and the direction of evacuation routes with evacuation simulations of the Pathfinder in case of a fire at a highway service area. It was also analyzed of the difference in RSET by comparing the single or double types of the exit of a facility. The results were as follows. When only one direction exit was opened, all of the RSET were exceeded. When two or more different directions were opened according to the general principle of evacuation, all results met the RSET. The simulations showed that two or more different directions were more shortened in RSET than the one same direction. The result of the types of doors showed that the single type door was shortened in RSET rather than the double type doors. For the evacuation safety in a fire at the highway service areas, firstly, it is necessary to secure two or more exits in a fire at all times. Secondly, the exits should not be same directions. Finally, it is suggested that the exit should be installed with a single type of door.

  • This paper presents a numerical model for the simulations of 2D depth-averaged flows. The shallow water equations are solved numerically by the Characteristic Dissipative Galerkin (CDG) finite element method. For validation, the developed model is applied to the hydraulic jump. The computed results are compared with the analytical solution, revealing good agreement. In addition, flow in a contracting channel showing standing waves is simulated. The calculated water surface profile appears to be qualitatively consistent with the observed data. The foregoing results indicate that the model is capable of simulating the abrupt change in flow field. Next, the model is applied to the flow in a $180^{\circ}$ curved channel. The simulated results show that the velocity near the inner bank is faster than that near the outer bank and the water depth near the inner bank is shallower than that near the outer bank. However, the simulated results show that the velocity distribution across the channel is almost uniform in the bend except the reach close to the end of the bend. This is due to the limitation of the governing equations in which the transverse convection of momentum by the secondary flows along a channel bend is not taken into account.
