Transformer-Less Single-Phase Four-Level Inverter for PV System Applications

  • A new inverter topology for single-phase photovoltaic (PV) systems is proposed in this study. The proposed inverter offers a four-level voltage in its output terminals. This feature results in easier filtering in comparison with other conventional two-level or three-level inverters. In addition, the proposed four-level inverter (PFLI) has a transformer-less topology, which decreases the size, weight, and cost of the entire system and increases the overall efficiency of the system. Although the inverter is transformer-less, it produces a negligible leakage ground current (LGC), which makes this inverter suitable for PV grid-connected applications. The performance of the proposed inverter is compared with that of a four-level neutral point clamped inverter (FLNPCI). Theoretical analysis and computer simulations verify that the PFLI topology is superior to FLNPCI in terms of efficiency and suitability for use in PV transformer-less systems.

Multi-Level Operation with Two-Level Converters through a Double-Delta Source Connected Transformer

  • This paper proposes a power conversion topology involving a multi-winding transformer and converters. The fundamental idea is described with circuit diagrams, and the voltage output of the proposed topology is analyzed mathematically. The effectiveness of the topology is discussed with test results from a small-scale power conversion system. When conventional hardware consisting of two-level converters and a transformer is employed, multi-level voltage outputs can be applied to the transformer windings by the proposed method.

  • This integrated magnetic (IM) transformer is proposed for a phase shifted full bridge (PSFB) converter with zero voltage switching (ZVS). In a new IM transformer, the transformer is located on the center leg of E-core and the output inductor is wound on two outer legs. The proposed circuit is analyzed electrically and magnetically. An E-core is redesigned and implemented. The proposed IM transformer is experimentally compared with the conventional one through a 1.2kW prototype converter.

  • This paper analyzed the power loss characteristics according to winding thickness and winding method of high frequency transformer. Power loss was analyzed by PExprt using FEM tool. The ferrite core model for analysis be used the EE10 type of TDK cop.. Transformer model objected flyback transformer type applied to flyback converter/inverter. Therefore, analysis results of loss were obtained from inner parameters of DC, AC resistance, leakage inductance, copper loss, core loss, and temperature etc.

  • To enhance the fault diagnosis ability for the dissolved gas analysis(DGA) of the power transformer, this paper proposes a learning vector quantization(LVQ) for the incipient fault recognition. LVQ is suitable expecially for pattern recognition such as fault diagnosis of power transformer using DGA because it improves the performance of Kohonen neural network by placing emphasis on the classification around the decision boundary. The capabilities of the proposed diagnosis system for the transformer DGA decision support have been extensively verified through the practical test data collected from Korea Electrical Power Corporation.

  • This paper describes an application of the on line partial discharge measurement method in operating transformer. In the operating transformer, the partial discharge signal may be superimposed by radio intereference voltage(RIV) and pulse shaped noise signals generated by external corona. The partial discharge quantity showed about 3,800pC due to very high sinusoidal interferences at the measuring impedance terminal of the transformer bushing tap. In order to reject these noises, this paper applied RIV filter, band-pass filters and noise gating method. The resulting measuring sensitivity was improved from 3,800pC to 160pC.

  • The high temperature superconductor transformer gains interests from the industries. This paper examined characteristics of the laboratory scale three phase HTS transformer and Brandt equation is used to calculate the loss by perpendicular magnetic field in transformer winding. To estimate the performance of the three phase HTS transformer no load characteristics, short circuit characteristics are calculated by using finite element method. Transient characteristics of sudden short circuit during full load operation have been examined. Effect of the resistance growth in the HTS wire from the quench of the wire is included in the calculation.

  • In this paper. we designed and simmulated a ring-dot type piezoelectric transformer. As the result, piezoelectric transformer of 25${\times}25{\times}3.5mm$ size (Dot electrode diameter of Ilmm) show the maximum displacement, stress and output power. When the Input voltage of piezoelectric transformer was 155V. Output voltage show 30V and output power 9W at the load resistance of $100\Omega$

  • In this paper, an experiment result on overload of distribution transformer was arranged by top oil temperature depending on capacity and time. This result shows the definition on overload of transformer is different by some factors such as ambient temperature and immediate load. In other words, increased temperature in range of regulation(50K) has time to spare even if the condition of transformer is overload. The algorithm presented in this paper is based on the international standard (IEEE std C57.91), and the safety of switchboard is diagnosed by this aspect mentioned on overload of transformer.

  • In this study, low temperature sintering multilayer piezoelectric transformer for DC-DC converter were manufactured using (PbCaSr)Ti(MnSb)$O_3$ ceramics and thin their electrical properties were investigated according to the vanation of frequency and load resistance. The voltage step-up ratio of multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the maximum value m the vicinity of 1.3MHz and increased according to the increase of load resistance. When the output impedance coincided with the load resistance, the piezoelectric transformer showed the temperature rise of about $21^{\circ}C$ under the output power of 6W.
