A transformer is a device that changes the current and voltage by electricity induced between coil and core steel, and it is composed of metals and insulating materials. In the core of the transformer, the thermal load is generated by electric loss and the high temperature can make the break of insulating. So we must cool down the temperature of transformer by external radiators. According to cooling fan's usage, there are two cooling types, OA(Oil Natural Air Natural) and FA(Oil Natural Air Forced). For this study, we used Fluent 6.2 and analyzed the cooling characteristic of radiator. we calculated 1-fin of detail modeling that is similar to honeycomb structure and multi-fin(18-fin) calculation for OA and FA types. For the sensitivity study, we have different positions(side, under) of cooling fans for forced convection of FA type. The calculation results were compared with the measurement data which obtained from 135.45/69kV ultra transformer flowrate and temperature test. The aim of the study is to assess the Fluent code prediction on the radiator calculation and to use the data for optimizing transformer radiator design.
The error of instrument transformers is measured by connecting the external burden with the secondary terminal of the instrument transformers. Because the error of transformer is affected by the apparent power and power factor of the external burden, an accurate measurement of burden is important for transformer evaluation. We have developed the burden evaluation equipment for both potential transformer and current transformer by employing the series resistor in the range of $20m{\Omega}{\sim}5{\Omega}$ and the parallel resistor in the range of $1M{\Omega}{\sim}500{\Omega}$, respectively, together with visual basic program. We could reduce testing time more than 5 times by employing method developed in this study, compared with that developed in past. This method shows more better reliability by analyzing the evaluation results and fitting graphs of burden measurements. The test results of the developed system is compared with those obtained in the power meter analyzer to verify the validity.
This paper deals with transformer turns ratio design with the consideration of loss minimization in isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. Generally, the rms value of current, magnitude of current at switching instance, and duty ratio of a converter vary according to the turns ratio of an isolation transformer in the converter under the same voltages and output power level. Therefore, the transformer turns ratio has an effect on the total loss in a converter. The switching and conduction losses of IGBTs and MOSFETs consisting of dual-active bridge converter are analyzed, and iron and copper losses in an isolation transformer and inductor are calculated. Total losses are calculated and measured in cases of four different transformer turns ratios through simulation and experiment with 3-kW converter, and an optimum turns ratio that provides minimum losses is found. The usefulness of the proposed transformer turns ratio design approach is verified through simulation and experimental results.
In this study, an integrated 2-in-1 transformer for a low-weight and low-cost light-emitting diode lighting power supply is proposed. In the transformer, a power factor correction (PFC) inductor and an LLC resonant transformer are placed and integrated on a single magnetic core. The amount of mutual interference, represented by the coupling coefficient, between magnetic fluxes generated from each magnetic source is minimized by using the new shape core of an integrated 2-in-1 transformer. The design consideration on critical conduction mode PFC converter and LLC resonant converter using the proposed 2-in-1 integrated transformer is described, and the overall performance of the 150 W LED PSU shown through the experiment.
In this paper, we propose a two-port S-parameter data to diagnose the fault conditions of a single-phase transformer. Using the S-parameters we can measure the reflection and transmission characteristics of signal power at the port of a transformer, which can also be converted into ABCD parameters and Z parameters through a well-known conversion formulas. Transformer fault diagnoses can be performed based on the intuitive and qualitative/quantitative characteristics of the these parameters. In addition, we can obtain wide frequency characteristics at the primary and secondary sides of the transformer, which can be used to get time domain responses using the inverse Fourier transformation with some specific input waveform. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the fault conditions were analyzed in simulation and experiment for 3 kVA single phase transformer with 15: 5 turns ratio, and the validity of the proposed method was verified.

Transformers are one of the most precious elements of the electric power system. Stability and reliability of the electric power network mainly depend on the working of the transformer. Leakage reactance of the transformer is one of the important factors and accurate calculation of the leakage reactance is necessary for the transformer designers and electric distributors. Leakage reactance of the transformer depends on the geometry of the transformer. There are many different methods for the calculations of the leakage reactance however mostly are usable when the axial heights of the high voltage and low voltage windings are equal. When the axial heights of high voltage and low voltage windings are asymmetric most of the analytical methods are not reliable. In this study, a new analytical method is introduced for the calculation of the leakage reactance. Fourteen different transformers are investigated in this study and four of them are presented in this paper. The results of the new analytical method are compared with the experimental results. Other analytical and numerical methods are also compared with this new method. Results show that this method is more reliable and accurate as compared to the other analytical methods. The maximum relative error between short-circuit test and proposed method for these fourteen transformers was less than 2.8%.
The protection relay keeps electric power facilities by using signals of the voltage and current which are input and output terminals of each equipment. Each relay performances protection algorithm by using informations of own protecting zone. To prevent the mal-operation in inrush current, established transformer differential protection method uses the second harmonics as blocking signal. This method is not operate at the initial inrush. However, in case of the parallel operation, if the initial inrush is occurred in one transformer which is generated, the sympathetic inrush Is occurred in adjacent transformer. This paper approach the sympathetic inrush detecting algorithm of a transformer based on agent. Proposed algorithm, when inrush current occurred, distinguish sympathetic inrush or not by using differential current of adjacent transformer. This algorithm have the advantage of the distinguishing initial inrush and sympathetic inrush at operation of parallel transformer
