Design of a Piezoelectric Transformer with Crescent-Shaped Input type (Crescent-Shaped 입력형 압전변압기의 설계)

  • This paper present a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercially available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor $(k_p,\;k_{15})$ becomes effective rather than the transverse meed coupling factor $(k_{31})$. A single layer prototype transformer, 26[m] in diameter and 2.0[mm] thickness, was fabricated, such as step-up ratio, power transformation efficiency and temperature were measured.

  • The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations in large building and have some advantages in comparison to oil-transformer, that is low fire risk, excellent environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. In addition, the application of mold transformer for outdoor is possible due to development of epoxy resin. The mold transformer generally has cooling duct between low voltage coil and high voltage coil. A mold transformer made by one body molding method has been developed for small size and low loss, but it needs some cooling method because heat radiation between each winding is difficult. In this paper, the temperature distribution and thermal stress analysis of H class 100kVA pole cast resin transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program.

  • An LCL-type Isolated dc-dc converter operating for constant output voltage is analyzed, including the effect of a high frequency transformer using ac complex circuit approximation. Its solution is derived and is used to obtain the characteristics of the proposed converter. The analyses show through converter modeling, phasor diagram and gain comparison that inclusion of a high frequency transformer results in introduction of magnetizing inductance and leakage inductances at conventional LCL dc-dc converter with ideal transformer. The theoretical and simulation results are presented in case of the wide variations in input voltage and load current in detail. Analysis and simulation results observed that introduction of a transformer in the dc-dc converter had considerable effect on the performance, especially in the case of low output voltage and large load.

  • A transformer is one of the most important elements in the power network. Transformer faults could cause costly repairs and be dangerous to personnel. To avoid this, its reliable operation has great significance and, therefore, the diagnosis system of the transformer is necessitated. The dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is the worldwide popular method of detecting faults such as a hot spot or partial discharges inside the transformer. DGA, however, is not a reliable technique to identify aging phenomena and mechanical faults including insulation failure, inter-turn short, etc. To overcome the drawbacks of DGA, the transfer function method is used to identify effectively these kinds of the mechanical faults.   • This paper describes the construction and test results of a 10kVA single phase HTS transformer. Double pancake windings with BSCCO-2223 HTS tape and G10-FRP cryostat with room temperature bore are used in the transformer. Two double pancake windings are connected in series to provide 188 turns and other two double pancake windings are connected in parallel to conduct the secondary current of 45.4[A]. Coefficients of the constructed transformer are obtained using the fundamental teats of the transformer. According to the test results, larger leakage reactance than expected is observed due to the bulky core which surrounds the sryostat.

  • Current differential protection relaying with second harmonic restraint is the main protection for large capacity power transformer. PSCAD simulation program is widely used for modeling of dynamic varying transients phenomena. This paper deals with a power transformer model and transients analysis using PSCAD software to develop IED for power transformer. Simulation was carried out using a three phase 40MVA, 154/22.9kV, 60Hz, two-winding transformer with Y-Y connection used in actual fields. The paper analyzed transformer magnetizing inrush, external fault, and internal fault conditions with this model in the time domain. In addition, we performed an analysis in the frequency domain using FFT during several conditions.

  • This paper analyses magnetic flux saturation of matching transformer considering characteristic of dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) system to solve voltage sags which are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. This DVR consist of PWM inverter to inject arbitrary voltage, LC low pass filter and matching transformer for isolation and grid connection. However, the matching transformer has an excess of inrush current by magnetic flux saturation in the core of transformer. Due to this inrush current, the rating of matching transformers is double for needed nominal rating for protection of DVR. Therefore, in this paper, an advanced modeling method of magnetic flux saturation is used to analyze a magnitude and characteristic of magnetizing current. Simulation and experimental results considering characteristic of DVR system are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed analysis method.

  • The conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) driver for LCD TV has a transformer for each lamp to step up the high sinusoidal waveform from the low input voltage. The transformer used in the conventional topology causes the driver to have bulky size and high cost. This paper proposes a new transformer-less CCFL driver for LCD backlight that is based on the parallel-loaded resonant inverter topology. This resonant topology enables the circuit to supply enough high voltage for CCFL without a transformer. Also, with current-balancing technique, this transformer-less inverter drives 16 CCFL lamps.

  • Matching transformer in Dynamic Voltage Compensator is needed for grid connection and isolation. Flux saturation in transformer will be occurred by voltage of transformer from inverter and DC offset voltage and flux saturation makes over current in transformer. In this paper, mathematical modeling of matching transformer is proposed for flux saturation simulation of Dynamic Voltage Compensator.

  • Recently, demands for the reduction of noise generated by transformers have been increasing. Accordingly the noise of transformer occasion displeasing to residents therefore the transformer needs to decrease of noise. One method of reduction such a noise is to build a free-standing enclosure of concrete and steel plates around the transformer, however, this method has some disadvantages, for example, a lage area is needed for equipment installation. In the paper, the vibration and noise effect which is transferred from reinforce channel to insulation panel generated by transformer have been identified for the several kinds of insulation panel and damping sheet experimentally.
