The expectoration of blood is always a fearful experience for the patient and a matter of grave concern to the attending physician, because it may be the warning sign of serious diseases. When such bleeding occurs, the possibility of its being due to pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchiectasis or carcinoma of the lung is promptly suggested. Nowadays, with the advance of modern diagnostic studies, differential diagnosis has become possible for the hemoptysis patients to have appropriate treatment. This evaluation is based on the review of 75 cases of patients whom we performed emergency open thoracotomies for 6 years from March 1992 to February 1997 in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Seoul Adventist Hospital. The mean age of the patients was 36.6 years old with a range from 19 to 68, and most prevalent age group was thirties. The most common underlying lung disease causin hemoptysis was tuberculosis(44%). Most accurate diagnostic study was bronchoscopy during hemoptysis(95 Vo) and right middle & lower lobe(17.3%) was the most common site of lesion. Lobectomy(50%) was the most frequent operative method and recurrent hemoptysis(31.6%) was the most common postoperative complication. But most of the patients(82.6%) were completely recovered by surgical treatment. Now we concluded that the proper management of hemoptysis was completed by surgical approach with definite diagnosis and supportive medication.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reosseointegration periods when the rough surface implants, which had complete bone-implant ankylosis, suddenly losed the osseointegration. Materials and Methods: The implants with RBM surface treatment were inserted into both tibias of 23 rabbits. Two implants were submerged into each side. After six weeks, the primary removal torque was measured by Digital torque gauge, and then the implants were replaced and submerged to estimate the level of reosseointegration. After assigned healing periods for each group, the removal torque was measured again. BIC (Bone-Implant contact, %) ratio was measured through histomorphometric analysis.Paired t-test was processed by SPSS 14.0. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test was processed to analyze statistically significant differences among the groups. Results: In comparison with the primary removal torque, the secondary removal torque was increased after 11 days and significantly increased from 2 weeks. In fluorochrome labeling, the origin of mineralization was observed after 7 days, which showed as fluorescent bands around the bone-implant interfaces. After 11 days, the bone formation was apparent, and it is increased continuously with the passage of the time. Conclusion: In 11 days after the implant replacement, the secondary removal torque was almost as same as the primary value, and was significantly higher from 2 weeks. The mineralized shapes were observed in 7 days after the implant replacement, and then the bone formation appeared visibly in 11 days.

Purpose: To evaluate marginal leakage of bulk fill flowable composite resin filling with different curing time by using microcomputed tomography technology. Materials and Methods: 30 previously extracted human molars were randomly divided into 6 groups based upon restorative system and different curing time. Class II cavities (vertical slot cavities) were prepared. An individual metallic matrix was used to build up the proximal wall. The SonicFill or SureFil SDR flow was inserted into the preparation by using 1 bulk increment, followed by light polymerization for different curing times. The different exposure times were 20, 40, and 60 seconds. All specimens were submitted to 5,000 thermal cycles for artificial aging. Micro-CT scanning was performed by using SkyScan 1272. One evaluator assessed microleakage of silver nitrated solution at the resin-dentin interface. The 3D image of each leakage around the restoration was reconstructed with CT-Analyser V.1.14.4. The leakage was analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Significant differences were observed between the light curing times, but no significant differences were found between the bulk fill composite resins. Increasing in the photoactivation time resulted in greater microleakage in all the experimental groups. Those subjected to 60 seconds of light curing showed higher microleakage means than those exposed for 20 seconds and 40 seconds. Conclusion: Increasing the photoactivation time is factor that may increase marginal microlekage of the bulk fill composite resins. Further, micro-CT can nondestructively detect leakage around the resin composite restoration in three dimensions.
We obtained successful functional and esthetic results by grafting of iliac marrow-cancellous bone in 2 cases of alveolar-palatal cleft patients. Bone graft of alveolar-palatal clefts provide bony support to adjacent teeth of cleft area, prevented from relapse of orthodontic arch expansion, closure of oroantral fistula and improvement of speech problem. 1. In one case, extraction of upper right central incisor that was little bone support, alignment of rotated teeth and expansion of collapsed arch segment were done with pre-ortodontic treatment. The other case, Bone grafting was done after removal of prosthesis with no preorthodontic treatment. 2. After mucoperiosteal incision in cleft area. The mucosal flap of labial area, palate and nose were separation and the raised nasal mucosa was sutured for closure of oroantral fistula. Then, the iliac marrow-cancellous bones were grafted to cleft site. 3. After 6 months of operation, we had seen the new bone deposition to cleft site in dental radiography and prosthetic treatments of missing teeth were done.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the pulpal response to direct pulp capping with dentin sialoprotein (DSP) -derived synthetic peptide in teeth of dogs, and to compare its efficacy to capping substances $Ca(OH)_2$ and white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA). A total of 72 teeth of 6 healthy male beagle dogs were used. The mechanically exposed pulps were capped with one of the following: (1) DSP-derived synthetic peptide (PEP group): (2) $Ca(OH)_2$ (CH group): (3) a mixture paste of peptide and $Ca(OH)_2$ (PEP+CH group): or (4) white MTA (WMTA group). The access cavity was restored with a reinforced glass ionomer cement. Two dogs were sacrificed at each pre-determined intervals (2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months). After the specimens were prepared for standard histological processing, sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Under a light microscope, inflammatory response and hard tissue formation were evaluated in a blind manner by 2 observers. In the PEP group, only 3 of 17 specimens showed hard tissue formation, indication that the DSP-derived synthetic peptide did not induce proper healing of the pulp. Compared with the CH group, the PEP group demonstrated an increased inflammatory response and poor hard tissue formation. The CH and WMTA groups showed similar results for direct pulp capping in mechanically exposed teeth of dogs.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of dies fabricated using 3D printing system to conventional method and to evaluate overall volumetric changes by arranging the superimposed surfaces. Materials and Methods: A mandibular right first molar from a dental model was prepared, scanned and fabricated with composites of polyetherketoneketone (PEKK). Master dies were classified into 4 groups. For the conventional method, the impression was taken with polyvinylsiloxane and the impression was poured with Type IV dental stone. For the 3D printing, the standard die was scanned and converted into models using three different 3D printers. Each of four methods was used to make 10 specimens. Scanned files were superimposed with the standard die by using 3D surface matching software. For statistical analysis, Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test were done (P < 0.05). Results: Compared to the standard model, the volumetric changes of dies fabricated by each method were significantly different except the models fabricated by conventional method and 3D printer of Stereolithography (P < 0.05). The conventional dies showed the lowest volumetric change than 3D printed dies (P < 0.05). 3D printed dies fabricated by Stereolithography showed the lowest volumetric change among the different 3D printers (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The conventional dies were more accurate than 3D printed dies, though 3D printed dies were within clinically acceptable range. Thus, 3D printed dies can be used for fabricating restorations.
This study was motivated by the awareness that little attention has been paid to this issue both theoretically and empirically, despite the fact that financial abuse causes serious problems which are difficult for the elderly to recover from. This study intends to explore what the patterns of financial abuse targeting the elderly are, what causes and sustains these abuses, and what makes it difficult to counter such financial abuses. Data analysis was based on individual and group interviews of ten professionals expected to encounter the most financially abused elderly in social welfare institutions. The thematic analysis shows that financial abuse is often caused and maintained in a trusting relationship through care and protection. Because financial abuse was inflicted on the vulnerable elderly in a state of reinforced psychological dependence based on a long and trusting relationship, it appears that it has been made with tacit acknowledgement and consent. Despite those complex dynamics, it is noted that financial abuse can be judged as such only when the elderly claim to suffer from harm. Rather, intervention without victims' acknowledgement tends to be perceived as violating their right to self-determination. This reality naturally leads to the termination of the necessary interventions with the victims in an abusive situation. Based on these results, discussion focused on more realistic and diverse approaches to the issue of financial abuse of older adults.

This study was established to provide basic information necessary for ecological management to restore the naturalness of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) plantations located in the mountains of Gyeongbuk, Korea. Using vegetation data collected from 200 black locust stands, vegetation types were classified using the TWINSPAN method, the spatial arrangement status according to the environmental gradient was identified through DCA analysis, and a synoptic table of communities was prepared based on the diagnostic species determined by determining community fidelity (Φ) for each vegetation type. The vegetation types were classified into seven types, namely, Quercus mongolica-Polygonatum odoratum var. pluriflorum type, Castanea crenata-Smilax china type, Clematis apiifolia-Lonicera japonica type, Rosa multiflora-Artemisia indica type, Quercus variabilis-Lindera glauca type, Ulmus parvifolia-Celtis sinensis type, and Prunus padus-Celastrus flagellaris type. These types usually reflected differences in complex factors such as altitude, moisture regime, successional stage, and disturbance regime. The mean relative importance value of the constituent species was highest for black locust(39.7), but oaks such as Quercus variabilis, Q. serrata, Q. mongolica, Q. acutissima, and Q. aliena were also identified as important constituent species with high relative importance values, indicating their potential for successional trends. In addition, the total percent cover of constituent species by vegetation type, life form composition, species diversity index, and indicator species were compared.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the dimensional change of 3D-printed dentures after post-curing. Materials and Methods: The upper and lower dentures were designed in Exocad DentalCAD software and exported as STL files. The upper and lower dentures were printed from 10 STL files using a DLP-type dental 3D printer. The printed upper and lower dentures were cleaned, and a scan file was created using a model scanner before and after post-curing. The dimensional change was evaluated by superimposing the scanned denture files before and after post-curing and measuring the distance between measurement points on the denture. SPSS was used for statistics, and the level of significance was 5%. Results: The maxillary denture reduced in size during post-curing, with the most notable color change occurring in the posterior palatal region. The reduction in anteroposterior maxillary denture length (A-D, A-E, A-F), as well as the distance between the first molars on both sides (B-C), was statistically significant. After post-curing, the mandibular denture showed more noticeable color change in the posteriorly buccal and lingual region. The decrease of length on the posterior (A-M, A-D, A-E, A-L, A-H, A-I, H-I) and lingual (J-K, L-M) sides of the denture were statistically significant. Conclusion: There was significant dimensional change in both the length and width of the 3D-printed maxillary and mandibular dentures after post-curing in this experiment. Consequently, it is seemed necessary to develop post-curing techniques and materials that reduce such denture deformation.

Purpose: The efficacy of the amount of sealer in the root canal and two retreatment NiTi file systems in removing filling materials. Materials and Methods: Extracted premolars with a single root canal were selected for this study. After access opening and root canal preparation up to size #40/.06, the specimens were randomly divided into four groups. Gutta percha (GP) tapers of .06 or .04 were used for each group and filled using a single-cone filling technique with CeraSeal, a calcium silicate-based sealer. Each group was retreated either using the ProTaper Universal Retreatment System (PTUR) or the Hyflex Remover (HR). The time taken to remove the filling material, the amounts of apically extruded debris, and canal cleanliness were measured and compared. Results: The amount of sealer did not affect the efficiency when removing the filling materials. However, the filling material was removed faster in the HR group than in the PTUR group. Two types of NiTi files showed similar retreatment effects in the amounts of apically extruded debris and in the degree of canal cleanliness. Conclusion: The amount of sealer in canal filling had no significant effect on retreatability. Retreatment with HR removed filling materials is faster than PTUR. There was no difference in other removal efficiencies according to the type of retreatment NiTi file.
