Growth characters of dry seeded paddy rice was studied at different levels of nitrogen(N) split application (basal : immediately after irrigation : 2 weeks after irrigation: 25 days before heading: heading stage with 10 : 20 : 30 : 20 : 20%, 20 : 30 : 20 : 20 : 10%, 30 : 40 : 0 : 20 : 10%, and 100% basal of slow release urea) in tillage and no-tillage systems. On May 17 in 1990, 6kg /10a of dry seeds of a breeding line of Milyang 95 was broadcasted and covered with a power tiller. Between tillage and no-tillage systems yield and its components, lodging related characteristics, and contents of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin of culm base were similar. Leaf area index at heading stage was higher in tillage, but lodging index was lower compared with those in no-tillage plot. Culm length, effective tiller ratio, culm base weight, 1000-grain weight, harvest index in slow release N applied plot were higher compared with those in other N treatments. Grain yield of rice among levels of N split applications was similar in tillage, but it was higher in slow release N applied plot in no-tillage if 1kg /10a of additional N was applied as urea at panicle formation stage. At early growth stage N concentration and N uptake were lower in the slow release N applied plot, but higher after heading stage compared with other N treatments. The number of tillers was lowest in slow release N applied plot during the tillering stage, but the number of panicles per hill was similar to other N treatments.
Effects of the heavy-ion ($^{14}$ N or $^{20}$ Ne) beam irradiation on the response of anthers, growth of calli, germination of seeds, and the early growth after the germination of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. BY-4) were investigated. Anthers precultured for 10 days before the irradiation became brown without callus or shoot induction over 20 Gy of $^{14}$ N and $^{20}$ Ne ion beam irradiation. Relative growth rate of the cultured calli was reduced by the irradiation and became brown significantly 2 weeks after the $^{14}$ N and $^{20}$ Ne ion beam irradiation over 50 Gy. The increased intensity of the heavy-ion ($^{14}$ N, $^{20}$ Ne) beam irradiation resulted in the delay of seed germination and the inhibition of the early growth both in water-treated and non-treated seeds before the irradiation. In addition, the heavy-ion beam irradiation to the imbibed seeds inhibited seed germination more than that to the non-imbibed seeds. The screening approach of non-imbibed seeds with heavy-ion beam irradiation using in vitro culture system was more useful than the filter-paper germination method in investigating the characteristics of heavy-ion beam-irradiated seed population and the screening of morphological variants at the early stage of the plant growth.

Fenton's Reagent is applied to directly dissolve the cation-exchange resin, IRN-77. The characteristics of the experimental procedure is to dry the resin first and $FeSO_4$ solution is completely absorbed into the resin, and then $H_2O_2$ is introduced later for an effective reaction between the reagents within the resin. An a characteristic of the dissolution, the lag time is needed for about 1 hour until the main reaction is occurred, which was more affected with the less concentration of $FeSO_4$ and the less initial dose of $H_2O_2$. The dose of $H_2O_2$ was equally divided into the early stage and the later stage after the initial reaction to provide an effective and safe reaction condition. The optimum conditions is appeared that the concentration of $FeSO_4$ is 0.9M and the dose of 15% $H_2O_2$ solution is 6-7 volume for the dissolution of unit weight of IRN-77. The effect of the heating on the lag time was checked and the time could be reduced within 5 minutes at $50^{\circ}C$, which is a relatively low temperature. The large amount of the resin, 5g and 10g, was also completely decomposed by increasing the dose of $H_2O_2$ to 9-10 volume ratio.

This study examined the fluidity and strength properties, water resistance, durability, and freeze-thaw of cementless loess mortar using an eco-friendly hardening agent. The experimental result indicates that 28 days compressive and flexural strength of the loess mortar was increased regardless of the weathered granite soil and loess mixture ratio as the replacement ratio of the hardening agent increases. The strengths were significantly increased until 14 days regardless of the hardening agent, while the effect on the strengths increasement was relatively low after 14 days. Thus, the strength development of loess mortar concrete was found to be faster than that of the normal concrete. In addition, when the hardening agent of 10% was used, the average flexural strength was 1.7MPa which is insufficient compared to the 28-day flexural strength of 4.5MPa for the paving concrete. However, the flexural strengths of the loess mortar concrete using the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 4.0MPa and 5.3MPa, respectively. Thus, the hardening agent need to be at least 20% so that the loess mortar can be used for paving concrete. The experiment for water resistance shows that the repeated absorption and dry reduced mass regardless of the mixing ratio of the loess. The maximum length change also decreased with increasing the substitution rate loess mixture ratio and the hardening agent. The result of the freeze-thaw resistance test indicates that the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity at 300 cycle freeze-thaw with the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 75% and 79%, relatively. Thus, the hardening agent of at least 20% is required to obtain the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of 60% for the loess mortar.

The Present study was attempted to investigate the Possibility of modification of functional properties of the rice flour by crosslinking proteins using microbial transglutaminase (mTGase) derived from a variant of Streptoverticillium sp. MTGase was added at various levels (3,000, 5,000, 7,000 and 10,000 ppm) during making noodles mixed with the rice flour. Mixograph and farinograph showed that imported wheat flour (IWF) had strong dough stability, while the rice flour showed very weak dough strength. However addition of mTGase (3,000, 5,000 and 7,000 ppm) resulted in improvement of dough stability of the rice flour. Texture profile analysis (TPA) results indicated that most of texture parameters (gumminess, chewiness and hardness) of cooked noodles prepared from the rice flour were significantly lower than those of noodles prepared from IWF. However, by addition of mTGase (at the levels of 3,000, 5,000, 7,000 ppm) dough stability and all the TPA values and sensory score (at the level of 7,000 ppm mTGase) on chewiness and hardness of cooked noodles made with $30\%$ rice flour were improved significantly. These results suggest that dough stability and texture of rice noodles as well as sensory characteristics could be improved by addition of mTGase to the rice flour.
To prepare edible skin gelatin of conger eel such as material fur quality improvement of surimi gel, the defatted skin was limed with 1% calcium hydroxide at $5^{\circ}C$ for 2 days, washed thoroughly with tap water, extracted with 8 volumes of distilled water to dehydrated skin for 2 hours at $50^{\circ}C$. The gelatin extract was centrifuged, filtered and then passed through anion(Amberlite 200C) and cation (Amberlite IR 900) resins. The purified gelatin solution was evaporated and dried by hot-air blast$(40^{\circ}C)$. The gelatin prepared by above condition had the highest quality as revealed by physical property values i.e. 240.5 g in gel strength, $28.0^{\circ}C$ in melting point and $28.0^{\circ}C$ in gelling point. Funtional property values were 56.8% in solubility, 1.8 ml/g in oil binding capacity, 55.0% in emulsifying capacity and 48.5% in emulsifying stability. jelly strength and senso교 evaluation of surimi gel from fish with red muscle were not improved by addition of emulsifying curd from conger eel skin gelatin as emulsifier. Therefore, the conger eel skin gelatin requires a suitable modification of functional group and improvement of processing operation to utilize as a material for quality Improvement of surimi gel.

Near infrared spectroscopy (NIR), is recently applied to analysis of food, and it gives non-destructive and highly reproducible results. The objectives of this study were to assay protein, lipid and starch content in Alaska pollack surimi and to investigate application in seafood. NIR spectra showed the absorbance signal at 1,510 nm, 2,050 nm, 2,170 nm and 2,180 nm for protein, and signal were increased with protein content. Standard error of equation (SEE) was 0,296 and standard error of prediction (SEP) was 0.327. In analysis of lipid in Alaska pollack surimi by NIR, near infrared spectra of lyophilized Alaska pollack surimi were scanned and the signals of absorbance from C-H functional groups in lipid were identified at 1,730 nm, 1,740 nm and 2,300 nm and these signals were risen as Increasing lipid contents of Alaska pollack surimi as samely protein. SEE and SEP were 0.319, 0,353, respectively. In starch analysis using NIR the signals of starch distinctly changed at wavelength of 1,450 nm and 1,950 nm. Collected values of SEE and SEP were 0.304 and 0.318, respectively and the range of errors was $0.0186\~0.6470$ in starch contents.

Home-made broccoli Kochujang (HMBK) was prepared with the addition of 5% broccoli leaf powder. Its physicochemical and functional properties were measured in extracts (80% methanol, 80% ethanol, and distilled water) and compared with home-made Kochujang (HMK) and factory-produced Kochujang (FPK). Total phenolic content (TPC) was 22% higher in methanol extract from HMBK (524.2 GAE/100 g) compared to HMK (431.0 GAE/100 g). TPC was 8% higher in ethanol extract from HMBK (541.9 GAE/100 g) compared to HMK (499.9 GAE/100 g). DPPH radical scavenging activity was 1.6 times higher in the methanol extracts from HMBK than HMK. In contrast there was no difference in DPPH radical scavenging activity between HMBK and HMK. Oxygen radical absorbance capacities in methanol and ethanol extracts from HMBK were similar to HMK, but both were higher than extracts from FPK (55% and 23% higher, respectively). Inhibition of angiotensin I converting enzyme activity in methanol extracts from HMBK was similar to HMK, but it was 2.6 times higher than inhibition activities from FPK. Interestingly, only ethanol extract from HMBK showed a 10.7% and 18.3% inhibition on cell growth of the human colon adenocarcinoma grade II cell line (HT-29) and human lung carcinoma cell line (NCI-H1229), respectively. These results indicate home-made Kochujang with broccoli leaf powder contains high total phenolics, antioxidant activities, and cancer cell growth inhibition activities.
Treatment mechanics should be individualized to be suitable for each patient's personal teeth and anatomic environment to get a best treatment result with the least harmful effects to teeth and surrounding tissues. Especially, the change of biomechanical reaction associated with that of the centers of resistance of teeth should be considered when crown-to-root ratio changed due to problematic root resorption and/or periodontal disease during adult orthodontic treatment. At the present study, in order to investigate patterns of initial displacements of anterior teeth under certain orthodontic force when crown-to-root ratio changed in not only normal periodontal condition but also abnormal periodontal and/or teeth condition, the changes of the centers of resistance for maxillary and mandibular 6 anterior teeth as a segment were studied using the laser reflection technique, the lever & pulley force applicator and the photodetector with these quantified variables reducing alveolar bone 2mm by 2mm for each of maxillary 6 anterior teeth until the total amount of 8mm and root 2mm by 2mm for each of mandibular 6 anterior ones until the total amount of 6mm. The results were as follows: 1. Under unreduced condition, the center of resistance during initial displacement of maxillary 6 anterior teeth was located at the point of about $42.4\%$ apically from cemento-enamel junction(CEJ) of the averaged tooth of them and kept shifting to about $76.7\%$ with alveolar bone reduction. 2. The distance from the averaged alveolar crest level of maxillary 6 anterior teeth to the center of resistance for the averaged tooth of them kept decreasing with alveolar bone reduction, but the ratio to length of the averaged root embedded in the alveolar bone was stable at around $33\%$ regardless of that. 3. Under unreduced condition, the center of resistance during initial displacement of mandibular 6 anterior teeth was located at the Point of about $43\%$ apically from CEJ of the averaged tooth of them and this ratio kept increasing to about $54\%$ with root reduction. But the distance from CEJ to the center of resistance decreased from around 5.3mm to around 3.3mm, that is to say, the center of resistance kept shifting toward CEJ with the shortening of root length. 4. A unit reduction of alveolar bone had greater effects on the change of the centers of resistance than that of root did during initial Phase of each reduction. But both of them had similar effects at the middle region of whole length of the averaged root.
Ginseng Radix, the root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer has been used in Eastern Asia for 2000 years as a tonic and restorative, promoting health and longevity. Two varieties are commercially available: white ginseng(Ginseng Radix Alba) is produced by air-drying the root, while red ginseng(Ginseng Radix Rubra) is produced by steaming the root followed by drying. These two varieties of different processing have somewhat differences by heat processing between them. During the heat processing for preparing red ginseng, it has been found to exhibit inactivation of catabolic enzymes, thereby preventing deterioration of ginseng quality and the increased antioxidant-like substances which inhibit lipid peroxide formation, and also good gastro-intestinal absorption by gelatinization of starch. Moreover, studies of changes in ginsenosides composition due to different processing of ginseng roots have been undertaken. The results obtained showed that red ginseng differ from white ginseng due to the lack of acidic malonyl-ginsenosides. The heating procedure in red ginseng was proved to degrade the thermally unstable malonyl-ginsenoside into corresponding netural ginsenosides. Also the steaming process of red ginseng causes degradation or transformation of neutral ginsenosides. Ginsenosides $Rh_2,\;Rh_4,\;Rs_3,\;Rs_4\;and\;Rg_5$, found only in red ginseng, have been known to be hydrolyzed products derived from original saponin by heat processing, responsible for inhibitory effects on the growth of cancer cells through the induction of apoptosis. 20(S)-ginsenoside $Rg_3$ was also formed in red ginseng and was shown to exhibit vasorelaxation properties, antimetastatic activities, and anti-platelet aggregation activity. Recently, steamed red ginseng at high temperature was shown to provide enhance the yield of ginsenosides $Rg_3\;and\;Rg_5$ characteristic of red ginseng Additionally, one of non-saponin constituents, panaxytriol, was found to be structually transformed from polyacetylenic alcohol(panaxydol) showing cytotoxicity during the preparation of red ginseng and also maltol, antioxidant maillard product, from maltose and arginyl-fructosyl-glucose, amino acid derivative, from arginine and maltose. In regard to the in vitro and in vivo comparative biological activities, red ginseng was reported to show more potent activities on the antioxidant effect, anticarcinogenic effect and ameliorative effect on blood circulation than those of white ginseng. In oriental medicine, the ability of red ginseng to supplement the vacancy(허) was known to be relatively stronger than that of white ginseng, but very few are known on its comparative clinical studies. Further investigation on the preclinical and clinical experiments are needed to show the differences of indications and efficacies between red and white ginsengs on the basis of oriental medicines.
