  • This study aimed to discriminate the groups clustered by mobile phone dependency and use type and to explore the quality of parent child-rearing attitudes and peer relationships predicting the types of groups. The subjects were the 688 fourth-grade students participating in the Korea Child Youth Panel Surveys. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, One-way ANOVA and multinominal logistic regressions. The main results of this study were as follows. Firstly, as the result of cluster analysis inputting the mobile phone dependency and use type, the four clustered groups were produced. Secondly, the quality of parent child-rearing attitudes and peer relationships discriminating the four groups were parents' supervision, over-involvement, love, senses of non-alienation from peers and communicating with them. Therefore, this study suggested the parent education and peer-relationship improving program to form children's good habits of mobile phone use.

  • Four countries are participating in exposure assessment for Mobi-Kids Study. Each country evaluates RF and ELF exposure from mobile phones considering telecommunication system and environment in the corresponding area. The results will be used to determine accumulation exposure level of each subject in case and control groups to assess the potential carcinogenic effects of childhood and adolescent exposure to radio frequency(RF) and extremely low frequency( ELF) from mobile phones on the central nervous system. This paper analyzes exposure types of mobile phones which have been used in Korea for about 10 years, based on Mobi-Kids protocol. It includes investigation of mobile phone models released in the domestic market, design of numerical phone models to represent each exposure type, and measurement of ELF radiation from mobile phones.

  • For this study, we conducted a survey targeting elementary school students to examine how the type of family communication shows differences in the children's use of media to draw up effective measures to use media. The result of study is that meaningful differences showed according to the time spent watching TV(F=6.719, p<.05) and using PC(F=7.713, p<.05) or cell phone(F=6.404, p<.05). The authoritative type pursuing obedience preferred entertainment programs and spent much time watching TV and preferred entertainment games when using a PC. The deliberating type pursuing conversations preferred educational and informative programs when watching TV and informative programs when using a PC. This study is meaningful in that it presents lessons learned to draw up measures for children to effectively use media based on the study results.

  • As the service of mobile internet has been expended, student users are increase. The computers have been widely used in a education field as the teaching tool by improvement of the multimedia contents processing and user interface. The English learning using the computers in the restricted education environment provides motivations and effective learning to learners, but still have some problem such as teaching and evaluating without consideration for differences of individual levels. In order to solve the problems and take the advantages, we propose the intelligent tutoring system for english learning with mobile technology. Overcoming limitations of the mobile environment and using proper treacher's roles,. We have applied the conventional estimation method of the intellectual learner level for students. Also, we have proposed the diagnostic function in order to determine the method of teaching-learing and item disposition that each leaner prefers. Then we have designed and implemented the expert module, providing the feedback for teaching, of the intelligent turoring system for mobile english learning. This system will be able to support the interaction between teachers and students and replace some roles of teacher in the mobile english learning.

  • Communication through smartphones is creating a new paradigm of mobile communication beyond the restrictions of mobility and space. The mobile instant messengers of the smartphone, which began on the desktop environment, are providing various communication features, including multimedia contents, texts, and voice. Kindergartens and nurseries are using Websites, phones, SMS, printed materials, handwritten notifications, etc. to communicate with the parents. IsPlus was developed to facilitate the communication between the parents and the teachers, including exchanges of pictures and videos, chatting, and attendance management using smartphones. This is meaningful in that it is an early smartphone mobile messenger for educational institutions for infants and preschoolers. This study presented a new approach to the development of a mobile messenger for a specific group of users by analyzing the user environment, communication types, application planning process and interface design development using storytelling.

  • The gender difference in social roles affects digital devices' utilization differences in man and woman even in the 21st Century. Prior studies analyze the digital divide (genders, ages, etc.) from the assessment perspectives of digital equipment, such as PCs. In the area of high speed internet, most functions of PCs have been replaced with smartphones, and around 80% of the mobile phone users adopt smartphones. Subsequently the inequality of physical access to the digital devices is no longer a criterion for digital divide. The focus on digital divide should be shifted from the physical access to other factors, such as socio-technical or socio-cultural ones. This paper examines utilization of women's digital equipment, in particular, preparing for tourism activities, which is popular but sensitive to the technology. A survey was conducted with participants of [Suncheon Garden Expo] 2013. The results of this study capture the inactive use of digital devices particularly women over 50s. This phenomenon (high utilization of the digital devices for social or informative purposes, but low utilization of the digital payment) implies other aspects of Korean women (economic independence, low self-assertion, technical difficulties, etc.), which is considered from the socio-technological convergence perspective. This study also has a practical implication on the side of the digital device developers as well as marketing, where the qualitative communication is likely to be incorporated for the women over 50s.

  • Particulate matter(PM) is one of the leading causes of lung cancer. Recognizing its considerable risk to human health, people change their behaviors when a concentration level of PM is high. The impact of particulate matter on urban activities may vary depending on the lasting days of PM and PM matter alerts. In addition, the level of averting behavior may vary depending on the types and physical characteristics of urban activities and the degree of vulnerability to PM among people. Although the way people respond to PM may vary depending on these various factors, previous research evidence on this is very insufficient. Therefore, this study multilaterally analyzed the impact of PM on the urban activities in Jongno-gu, one of the CBD areas of Seoul. For this, we linked SKT's mobile phone signal data to land use data to extract the daily number of active people by urban activity types and ages. According to multiple regression analysis, the averting behavior varies depending on the type of urban activity, the physical characteristics of the place of activity(inside and outdoor), the lasting days of PM, PM alerts and the age of people. The results of this study can be used as basic data to policy makers who establish policies for adapting to air pollution policies by providing various effects of PM on the urban activities.
