  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flow characteristics around underwater triangular structure with various inclination and Reynolds number. A flow fields around the triangular structure model were measured by visualization method and PIV in the circulating water channel. The result of the experiment is where the triangular structure that has a inclination of $45^{\circ}$ and the reynolds number at $Re=2.9{\times}10^3$ showed rising velocity component to 2.7 times of the structure height. When the reynolds number is steady and when the inclination is greater the descending velocity component of the structure's rears current form is greatly shown and for the areas where it's more than y/hs=1.75 has a change in the angle of inclination but it doesn't give a great effect to it.

  • An experimental and computational study has been performed for investigation of the jet interaction in supersonic flow with a ramp located behind a sonic, lateral jet. The experimental techniques include schlieren, pressure taps, and Pressure Sensitive Paint. The numerical solver used in this study is AeroSoft's structured flow solver GASP Version 4.0. A Mach 4 crossflow with a pressure ratio of 532, and the 3D ramp was designed by parametric study using GASP. The results showed that the ramp located downstream of the jet decrese the nose-down pitching moment by 70% without a force loss.

  • Passive control of the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction control utilizing slotted plates over a cavity has been carried out. Effect of various slot configurations on the characteristics of the interactions are tested. Pitot/wall surface pressure distributions and flow visualizations including Schlierens and interference fringe patterns over a thin oil-film have been obtained at the downstream of the shock interactions. It was found that the interaction control by a certain slot-configuration could lead a reduction of the total pressure loss through the shock wave, however, the boundary layer thickness became thicker as compared with the case of no control.

  • The average diffusion time of a polyacrylamide solution was determined by measuring the terminal velocities of the falling balls. The diffusion time increased as the polyacrylamide concentration increased. The PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) system was employed to visualize the flow phenomena around balls. For a time interval of 30 seconds in the 2000 wppm, velocity vectors were larger than in case of 0 seconds, 40 seconds and 50 seconds in the falling ball. However, in the Newtonian fluid, flow vsualization around balls were performed at both upstream and downstream of the falling ball.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the liquid breakup and atomization characteristics in electrohydrodynamic atomization according to the changing of experimental parameters such as nozzle size, fluid flow, and electrical intensity. An original electrohydrodynamic atomizer equipment was designed and manufactured for the analysis of spray visualization and the exploration of relationship between applied power and the behavior of liquid atomization. The image processing technique by using the back-illumination method was applied to visualize the distilled liquid breakup process and to examine the variation of the droplet size distribution. The results show that the spray modes of electrohydrodynamic atomization are closelyconnected by the strength of the electric stresses at the surface of the liquid film and the kinetic energy of the liquid jet leaving the needle tip.

  • Screen can provide any disturbed resistance that affects the change in characteristics of turbulence, velocity and pressure distributions of the flow field, and thus it has been widely used to control the flow. Some previous related studies for compressible flows have limitations such as, considering relatively low-Mach-number flows in the range of 0.3 ∼ 0.7, and not observing the detailed shock structures of the flow fields. An experimental study on highly compressible axi-symmetric supersonic jet flow fields behind wire-gauze screen has thus been carried out. Continuous/instantaneous flow images by Schlieren flow- visualization technique and the information of Pitot pressure/flow-noise measurements of the flow field behind the screen for various jet expansion conditions have been obtained. Effects of various porosity and inclination angles of the screen at the nozzle exit have also been investigated, and the experimental results have been compared to the case with no screen installed.

  • In this study, wind tunnel test on Quad-Tilt Propeller which has tandem wings is carried out to analyze the aerodynamic interference effect of front wing and propeller on rear wing during forward flight. Using 6-axis balance system, forces and moments of whole aircraft were measured and using strain gauge at wing root, bending moments were measured to observe change of aerodynamic force of each wings. A 12-hole probe was used to measure the flow field in the wing and propeller wake. Flow characteristics were observed qualitatively through flow visualization experiment using tuft and smoke. To measure the aerodynamic interference by elements, the influence of front wing and propeller on rear wing was analyzed by changing the wings and propellers mount combination.

  • This experimental study is about the flow characteristics according to existence and nonexistence of the control rod and location in the flow field where it has the Inclined rear walls in the open cavity. By using the visualization of flow and particle image velocimetry (PIV), we performed about a change and speed of the Reynolds number. Our objective was what part of the control rod gives less effects to the characteristics of flow and how the shear mixing layer moves at what critical point of the Reynolds number. As a result, we differed the location of control rod. So finally, L/H=0.2 was discovered to give less effects to the cavity. The flow of backside of vortex faces the upper side. And we found that this phenomenon shows up more clear when the number of Reynolds increases. This is because of the flow of vortex causes by the condition of y/H=1.0. This phenomenon gets more clear with increasing of number of Reynolds, and critical point of the Reynolds number was $Re=1.0{\times}10^4$ around. If control rod is L/H=0.1, depending on the number of Reynolds ($Re=6.0{\times}10^3$, $Re=8.0{\times}10^3$, $Re=1.0{\times}10^4$, $Re=1.2{\times}10^4$), doubled vortex shows up. As the shear mixing layer of the upper side of cavity increases, the speed of the lower side was very stable.

  • The drag reduction effect of a freely-rotatable splitter plate was experimentally investigated in the 2-D wake behind a circular cylinder. By arranging the splitter plate to be aparted with a certain gap from the cylinder, the splitter plate was able to be aligned itself automatically to the flow direction in the tested range of 6.2$\times$$10^3$$\times$$10^4$. As a result, it was proven that the self-adjustable splitter plate always reduced effectively the drag imposed on the body against any arbitrary flow directions. In a specific range of Reynolds numbers, the drag reduction effect was dependent not only on the length of the splitter plate but also on the gap distance between the plate and the trailing edge of the body. For a splitter plate with a specific length, there existed a unique optimum range of gap distance to obtain successfully the drag reduction effect, however, the optimum range of gap distance was dependent on Reynolds number.

  • A breaking-wave caused by a cylinder moving under the free-surface is studied, which is designed to unveil the interaction between breaker and cylinder using PIV at CWC. The detailed structures of the vortical flow is obtained from the velocity field measured by PIV technique. The vorticity distribution behind the breaker and originated from the breaker. It has been obvious that the vortices from breaker greatly affect the whole wake field at S/D=1. Certainly PIV was confirmed to be a very versatile means to investigate the complex flow fields such as breaking wave.
