  • The purpose of this paper is to show the empirical measurement way for predicting the seaport efficiency by using Super SBM(Slack-based Measure) with Wilcoxson signed-rank test under CRS(constant returns to scale) condition for 20 Korean ports during 11 years(1997-2007) for 3 inputs(port investment amount, birthing capacity, and cargo handling capacity) and 5 outputs(Export and Import Quantity, Number of Ship Calls, Port Revenue, Customer Satisfaction Point for Port Service and Container Cargo Throughput). The main empirical results of this paper are as follows. First, Super SBM model has well reflected the real data according to the Wilcoxon signed rank test, because p values have exceeded the significance level. Second,Super-SBM has shown about 87% of predicting ratio for the ports efficiency and the optimal size of investment in domestic seaport. The policy implication to the Korean seaports and planner is that Korean seaports should introduce the new methods like Super-SBM method with Wilcoxon signed rank test for predicting the efficiency of port performance and the optimal size of investment as indicated by Panayides et al.(2009, pp.203-204).

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the clustering trend and the empirical comparison and to choose the clustering ports for 3 Korean ports(Busan, Incheon and Gwangyang Ports) by using the Fuzzy(Average Index Transformation) DEA and Cross-efficiency models for 38 Asian ports during 11 years(2001-2011) with 4 input variables(birth length, depth, total area, and number of crane) and 1 output variable(container TEU). The main empirical results of this paper are as follows. First, clustering results by using Fuzzy(AIT)DEA show that 3 Korean ports[Busan(56.29%), Incheon(57.96%), and Gwangyang(66.80%) each]can increase the efficiency. Second, according to Cross-efficiency model, Busan(Hongkong, Kobe, Manila, Singapore, and Kaosiung etc.), Incheon(Aquaba, Dammam, Karachi, Mohammad Byin Oasim and Davao), and Gwangyang(Damman, Yokohama, Nogoya, Keelong, Kaosiung, and Bangkok) should be clustered with those ports in parentheses. Third, when both Fuzzy(AIT)DEA and Cross-efficiency models are mixed, the empirical result shows that 3 Korean ports[Busan(71.38%), Incheon(103.89%), and Gwangyang(168.55%) each]can increase the efficiency. The efficiency ranking comparison among the three models by using Wilcoxon Signed-rank Test was matched with the average level of 66%-67%. The policy implication of this paper is that Korean port policy planner should introduce the Fuzzy(AIT)DEA, and Cross-efficiency models with the mixed two models when clustering is needed among the Asian ports for enhancing the efficiency of inputs and outputs. Also, the results of SWOT analysis among the clustering ports should be considered.

  • This paper aims to measure and evaluate the technical efficiency with two inputs and four outputs with the use of fuzzy DEA in Korean RCC/RSC. Especially, this paper included not only the marine accident data which occurred for the analysis in particular but also the possibility data of a potential marine accident by an Environmental Stress value and analyzed the technical efficiency. And in this paper, asymmetrical triangular fuzzy number is presented about inputs/ outputs data and a procedure is suggested for it's solution. The basic idea is to transform the fuzzy CCR model into a crisp linear programming problem by applying an alternative ${\alpha}$-cut approach. Also this paper propose a ranking method for fuzzy RCC/RSC using presented fuzzy DEA approach. The result, when ${\alpha}$-cut is 0.5, efficiency priority is found in the order of YS, BS, MP, TY, JJ, PH, US, IC, SC, DH, GS, TA, WD RCC/RSC. Finally, Inefficiency TA, WD RCC/RSC have to benchmarking with reference sets.

  • In considering the size of container logistic flow of Korea, one-port as a hub port is desirable in Busan Port, but as development of Busan Port and Gwangyang Port began as two-ports, they are good as mega hub ports. In case when ports of other regions such as Incheon Port are additionally developed, it is very likely that they become feeder ports rather than mega hub ports. As capital area uses Incheon Port and Pyeongtaek Port for transportation, fierce competition arises due to excessive facilities of terminal companies and it is not easy to be profitable. Therefore, it is more profitable to develop regional hub ports centering on near-sea routes of Korea China Japan rather than local ports such as Incheon Port and Pyeongtaek Port for intensive trade and transportation in the capital area. To mitigate excessive competition between container terminal companies, we need administrative guidance to maintain adequacy through comparing tariffs between ports of Japan and China which are in competitive relations with Korean ports. This study analysed efficiency of container terminal companies in Gwangyang Port, Busan Port and Incheon Port using data for five years from 2006 to 2010. As analytical variables, length of quay, floor area of yard, the number of cranes and employees were analytical variables and a total freight volume was a productive factor.

  • The modern society has been drastically changed from the industrial economic society to the knowledge based society, to catch up with the knowledge and the change of technology required for the modern people, the people can not live in the modern society without the continued study or education. In case of architectural design firm, it is concentrating on the productivity of enterprise by cultivating the working level through the self education focused on the improvement of inner capacity. In connection with this, the efficiency of enterprises are analyzed by carrying out the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) utilizing the financial ratio index in the various field of industries recently, the analysis study for the efficiency utilizing DEA is increased in the construction industries as well. However, in case of construction industries, the study focused on the efficiency of administration only has been progressed, it is the real situation that the approach for the analysis of education efficiency of each enterprise is very insufficient. Therefore, this study analyzed the education efficiency of architectural design firm after the selection of input and output variables by utilizing the DEA model and utilizing the AHP analysis technique by deducting the variables through the preceding study in relation to the education efficiency and the interview with the specialists.

  • By using data envelopment analysis(DEA) this research measures the efficiency of Korea's seven middle-sized seaports and their Malmquist productivity from 1998 to 2007. Under the assumption of CRS(constant returns to scale) and VRS(variable returns to scale), seaports' ranking of efficiency are measured. Kunsan Port is confirmed as a middle-performed port in the various measurements. Important finding facts are as follows. 1)Kunsan Port has the efficiency level from 53% to 57% of efficient ports' level under the assumption of CRS and VRS. 2)In terms of average efficiency level, the gap among these 7 seports' efficiency levels has been widened during the period from 1998 to 2007. 3)Kunsan Port has shown the characteristics of DRS more frequently in terms of returns to scale. 4) Kunsan Port's average total factor productivity has been lower at the rate of 0.7% during the period from 1998 to 2007. 5)Kunsan Port has shown technical progress at the rate of 3.1% in this period. In future research the more and better data will be expected to improve the understanding of Korean seaports' efficiency characteristics.

  • In the circumstance of standing out the climate change issue, the purpose of this study is to compare the efficiency of offshore and coastal fisheries according to whether or not greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered, and then to present policy alternatives based on the analysis results. For analysis, the traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA), the slacks-based measure (SBM) and the SBM-undesirable models were used, and robust analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Wilcoxon Signed-rank tests were performed. As a result, the study showed that the average efficiency of fisheries decreased as the traditional DEA extended to the SBM model considering the slack and the SBM-undesirable model including the GHG emissions. Specifically, the average efficiency of the traditional DEA model, SBM model, and SBM-undesirable model was analyzed as 0.7350, 0.5820 and 0.4976 respectively. In addition, the results of the robust ANOVA and Wilcoxon Signed-rank tests all showed that there are statistically significant differences in efficiency between offshore and coastal fisheries as well as among traditional DEA, SBM and SBM-undesirable models. As a policy alternative to the analysis, it was suggested that to improve the efficiency of coastal and offshore fisheries, it is necessary to actively implement the new fishing vessel project and develop smart and electric hybrid fishing vessels.

  • In this study, we aim to examine the impact of corporate social responsibility implementation, which is a major concern in previous research, on investment efficiency. The research method will be a qualitative study with reference to existing previous research. The three main claims to be addressed in this study will be summarized, and the research variables and research models will be described. As a result of the study, based on existing previous research, this study presented three issues to examine how a high level of corporate social responsibility performance increases investment efficiency. First, we argue that a company's high level of social responsibility will be positively related to investment efficiency. Second, it is argued that investment efficiency will be positively related to individual CSR components that represent the interests of primary stakeholders. Third, it is argued that companies with too high a CSR index and companies with a too low CSR index will have less correlation with investment efficiency. The contribution of this study will be to more accurately understand the impact of CSR on corporate investment efficiency. In the future, it is hoped that additional discoveries will be made through research that adopts the three claims presented in this study as hypotheses and empirically analyzes them. • It is important issue to increase the efficiency of visibility operations in rendering since the most of rendering time is spent for performing visibility operations. In this paper, we present light buffers of area light sources, which provide efficient visibility operations from the sources. The light buffers are extended to support visibility operations not originated from the sources. We also explore their applications such as shadow generation, ray tracing and radiosity. Our experimental results show that the light buffers support more efficient visibility operations than the previously developed data structures including BSP trees, linear grids, and octrees.

  • A domain/boundary decomposition method is applied for efficient analyses of thermo-elasto-viscoplastic damage and contact problems under the assumption of infinitesimal deformation. For the decomposition of a whole domain and contact boundaries, all the equality constraints on the interface and contact interfaces are restated with simple penalty functional. Therefore, the non-linearity of the problem is localized within finite element matrices in a few subdomains and on contact interfaces. By setting up suitable solution algorithms, the computational efficiency can be improved considerably. The general tendency of the computational efficiency is illustrated with some numerical experiments.
