Periodontal disease and/or loss of teeth brings pathologic tooth migration that can result in esthetic and occlusal problems. Diastema and general spacing of the teeth, particularly in the anterior segments of the dentition are frequently developed in individuals with advanced periodontal disease. Thus, the overall treatment plan for a patent with advanced periodontal disease often involves periodontal orthodontic combined therapy. Orthodontic treatment in adults with periodontal disease is restricted to tooth alignment with special caution. Indirect bonding can achieve accurate bracket placement. A 38 year old woman with adult periodontitis was treated by periodontal therapy. Subsequently, her diastema was orthodontically corrected by indirect bonding technique. It must be an appropriate case report of periodontal-orthodontic combined therapy.
The Discrete Element Method (DEM) has been widely used in civil engineering as well as various industrial fields to simulate granular materials. In this study, DEM was adopted to predict the performance of the face plate-type earth pressure balance (EPB) shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine). An analysis of the TBM excavation performance was conducted according to two pre-defined excavation conditions with the different rotation speeds per minute (RPM) of the cutterhead. The TBM model which was used in this study has a 6.64 m of diameter and six spokes. Also, 37 precutters and 98 scrapers at an each spoke were modeled with a real-scale specification. From the analysis, compressive forces at the cutterhead face, shield and cutting tools, resistant torques at the cutterhead face, muck discharge rate and accumulated muck discharge by the screw auger were measured and compared.

The simplified model for 3-dimensional analysis of vehicle-bridge interactions is presented in this study. By using the analysis model which includes the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the torsional forces acting on the bridge, the more accurate analysis results of the behavior of the bridge can be obtained. The equations of kinetic energy, potential energy and damping energy are expressed by degrees of freedom of the vehicle and the bridge. And then by applying Lagrange's equations of motion, the equations of motion of the vehicle and the bridge are obtained. By deriving the equations of forces acting on the bridge considering the vehicle-bridge vertical interactions and also by identifying the position of vehicle as time goes by, mass matrix, stiffness matrix, damping matrix and load vector of vehicle-bridge system are constructed in accordance with the position of vehicles. Then using Newmark's β-method(average acceleration), the equations of motion for the total vehicle bridge system are solved.

When a ship propeller having wing type sections rotates at high speed underwater, local pressure on the blade decreases and various types of the cavitation inevitably occur where the local pressure falls below the vapor pressure. Fundamentally characteristics of the cavitation are determined by the shapes of the blade section and their operating conditions. Underwater noise radiated from a ship propeller is directly connected to the occurrence of the cavitation. In order to design low noise propeller, it is preferentially demanded to figure out key features: how the cavity is generated, developed and collapsed and how the effect of viscosity works in the process. In this study, we first perform inviscid analysis of the partial cavity generated on two dimensional hydrofoil. Secondly, viscous analysis using FLUENT with different turbulence and cavitation models are presented. Results from both approaches are also compared and estimated.
The general formulation for free vibration and stability analysis of unsymmetric thin-wared space frames is presented in case where the shear deformation effects are neglected. The kinetic and total potential energies are derived by applying the extended virtual work principle, introducing displacement parameters defined at the arbitrarily chosen axis and including warping deformation and second order terms of finite semitangential rotations. In formulating the finite element procedure, cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions of the two node space frame element. Mass, elastic stiffness, and geometric stiffness matrices for the unsymmetric thin-walled section are evaluated, and load-correction stiffness matrices for off-axis distributed loadings are considered. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this formulation, finite element solutions for the free vibration and stability problems of thin-walled beam-columns and space frames are presented and compared with available solutions.

In this paper, cross-sectional stiffnesses, static stresses, and dynamic natural frequencies are analyzed to examine the structural performance of wind turbine composite blades. The material properties of composite materials are based on room-temperature and radiation curing processes. The cross-sectional stiffnesses of composite blades are calculated by applying a beam theory with solid-profile cross sections. The wind turbine blades are modeled with a finite element program, and static analyses are carried out to check the maximum displacement and stress of the blades. In addition, dynamic analyses are performed to predict the rotating natural frequencies of the composite blades including the effects of centrifugal force. By comparing these analysis results, mainly owing to the material properties of composite materials, an improvement in the structural performance of the blades according to the curing process is investigated.
We measured the low field microwave absorption (LFMA) and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) signals at various magnetic field angle in exchange biased CoFe/MnIr thin film. The LFMA signals were dominantly related to the magnetization rotation process. In order to analyze the LFMA signal, we calculated transverse magnetization ($M_{\tau}$) and permeability (${\mu}_{\tau}$) for CoFe/MnIr thin film by using S-W model, which magnetic parameters of exchange bias ($H_{ex}$ = 58.5 Oe) and uniaxial anisotropy field ($H_k$ = 30Oe) was obtained from FMR signals. The LFMA signal at hard axis showed similar behavior compared with that of $M_{\tau}$. As the magnetic field angle approach to the perpendicular to hard axis, the LFMA signals were depending on both of $M_{\tau}$ and ${\mu}_{\tau}$.

Because of the difference between the actual and computed eccentricity of buildings, symmetrical buildings will be affected by torsion. In provisions, accidental eccentricity is intended to cover the effect of several factors, such as unfavorable distributions of dead- and live-load masses and the rotational component of ground motion about a vertical axis. The torsional amplification factor is introduced to reduce the vulnerability of torsionally imbalanced buildings. The effect of the torsional amplification factor is observed for a symmetric rectangular building with various aspect ratios, where the seismic-force-resisting elements are positioned at a variable distance from the geometrical center in each direction. For verifying the torsional amplification factor in provisions, nonlinear reinforced concrete models with various eccentricities and aspect ratios are used in rock. The difference between the maximum displacements of the flexible edge obtained between using nonlinear static and time-history analysis is very small but the difference between the maximum torsional angles is large.

This paper deals with the analytic and FEM analyses of sloshing frequency response of incompressible, invicid and irrotational flow in two dimensional rectangular tank. We use Laplace equation based on potential theory as governing equation. For small amplitude sloshing motion, the linearized free surface condition was applied and the analytic solution as obtained by the separation of variables. To simulate the effect of the energy dissipation due to viscous damping, artificial viscous coefficient is introduced and the divergence of response at resonance frequencies may be avoided by this coefficient. This problem was solved by FEM using 9-node elements in order to predict the maximum amplitude of sloshing response. Numerical results of free surface height, fluid pressure and fluid force show good agreement with those by analytic solution. After verifying the test FEM program, we analyze the frequency response characteristics of sloshing to the fluid height.

In this paper, we propose a Geometrical Centroid Contour Distance(GCCD) which is described by shape signature based on contour sequence. The proposed method uses geomertrical relation features instead of the absolute angle based features after it was normalized and aligned with dominant feature of the shape. Experimental result with MPEG-7 CE-Shape-1 Data Set reveals that our method has low time/spatial complexity and scale/rotation robustness than the other methods, showing that the precision of our method is more accurate than the conventional desctiptors. However, performance of the GCCD is limited with concave and complex shaped objects.
