This study aimed to identify the effect of the active aging on life satisfaction and present an improvement strategies to increase life satisfaction in elderly people. Active aging is divide into three aspects; health, participation and security. The subjects were people older than 55 years who were enrolled in Korean Retirement and Income Study. The influencing effect was analyzed by a hierarchial regression. Key factors associated with active aging influencing life satisfaction were subjective health, mental health, participation in the labor market, income, and housing while subjective health was a determinant factor that best describes the effect of the active aging on life satisfaction. On the basis of above result, this study suggests that there needs to be an effort in improvement of physical and mental health, participation in the labor market, and housing at national and regional levels.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among perceived environmental factor, active aging and self-rated health for active senior golf participants. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs for Windows. Frequency analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis. After correlation analysis and structural equation model analysis were used. As a results derived through the research are as follows. First perceived environmental factor had a positive effect on active aging. Second, active aging had a positive effect on self-rated health. Third, perceived environmental factor had a positive effect on self-rated health. Fourth, active aging mediated the relationship between perceived environmental factor and self-rated health.
The purpose of this research is to analyze care types in long-term care facilities with the view of Active Ageing by using Q-methodology. In-depth interviews were conducted to grasp various thoughts on care of long-term care facilities in three areas of WHO's active aging: health, safety, and participation. 35 people participated in the interview, including the elderly living in long-term care facilities, adult children of the elderly living in long-term care facilities, the elderly living in the community, service providers, and long-term care professionals. Of the 451 Q populations, 63 Q samples were extracted, and a total of 43 P samples were used for final data analysis. Data were analyzed using the QUANL program, and as a result, three factor structures (4 types) were found to be suitable and accounted for 30.15% of the total variance. Current care types in long-term care facilities were analysed into 4 types: protection-oriented care (type 1), participation-oriented care (type 2), medical-connected care (type 3), and human-centered care (type 4). Based on the results of this study, institutional and practical suggestions and implications were presented for the qualitative change of care in long-term care facilities.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the policy and programs of the Seoul50Plus Foundation and to propose policies and programs to promote active aging of middle-aged and elderly people. A single case study was utilized as a research method. The analysis framework of case was approached with four frameworks: the context of policy and program, ideology-goal analysis of policy and program, supplier and customer analysis of policy and program, and process and domain analysis of policy and program. The analysis data included the homepage content of the Seoul50Plus Foundation, related 50+ policy and program data, active aging research papers at home and abroad, and presentation and meeting materials. The results of the research showed that the policy and program background and environment were essential elements for responding to environmental changes in the aging society. In terms of the philosophy-goal, job creation, social participation, and approach to life design were systematically carried out for the ideology of 'creating a new life vision' and promoting active aging. In terms of subject-target, the subject of policy implementation is systematically composed of three stages: 50+ foundation, 50+ campus, and 50+ center. The target was limited to 50+ generations(age 50~64) and had a problem that is limited to applicants. In the process-area analysis, programs such as educational support, work and entrepreneurship support, counseling information, and new-age cultural creation activities were designed to increase added value according to the characteristics of the middle-aged people. In conclusion, the future Seoul50Plus Foundation's policy and lifelong learning programs need to be systematically promoted through cooperation with businesses and universities, expanding the target audience, matching the characteristics of the middle-aged and elderly, and linkage among programs.
Aging is one of the major tasks that our country should resolve. To deal with aging problems, many countries have introduced various new concepts such as active aging, productive aging, and successful aging, well aging and anti-aging. This study suggests a new concept, digital aging, to tackle aging problems, and we use this concept to explore the new policy and policy areas for aged people. Since this concept is not well defined yet, this article focuses reviewing existing research literature. Instead of focusing the negative aspect of aging, this study investigates how to use the digital technology to build such images that the old man can be continuously learning, active and productive.
There has neither been enough research on how to approach the concept of active aging through an integrated view nor an examination to verify the relationship between preparation for old age and active aging in later life. Therefore, this research aims to verify that the elderly, who have prepared for their later life, affected their active aged life. In addition, by setting up self-efficacy and social support as mediator in the research model, this paper looks into the psycho-social resource mechanism of the relationship in depth. In order to verify the correlation of two variables, the Seoul welfare panel data, a mediating model structured by psycho-social resources created by Seoul welfare foundation in 2010, was used. The total sample size was a group of 1,492 elders aged over 65. When it came to our research methods, structured equation analysis was applied to verify the mediating effect and theoretical background. The results revealed that physical preparation, financial preparation, social preparation and leisure preparation directly affected their active aging level positively, thus, psycho-social resources showed a partial mediating effect between preparation for old age of the past and active aging level. The research implications are as follows. First, this research makes an effort to approach the concept of preparation for old age with an integrated perspective through making a construct by entire preparation types. Second, it will attempt to verify the relationship between preparation for old age in the past and active aging in terms of multi-dimension is meaningful. Third, this research reveals the function of psycho-social resource, self-efficacy and social support within the relationship. As far as the partial mediating effect is concerned, preparation for old age education for the middle-aged class should be modified as a decent field to enhance of the elderly.
The present study examined whether the relation between relative handgrip strength and cognitive function varied by paid employment status and participation of social activities among Korean older adults. A total of 3,376 Korean adults aged 65 or older were drawn from the 2016 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA). Weighted hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to examine moderating effects of paid employment status and social activities on the relation between relative handgrip strength and cognitive function. After adjusting for covariates, results show that relative handgrip strength has a positive association with cognitive function. Both paid employment status and social activities have positive associations with cognitive function and moderate the relationship between relative handgrip strength and cognitive function. These significant moderating effects show that participating in paid employment and social activities buffer against the effect of lower handgrip strength on cognitive function. Findings from the present study highlight the significant role of active aging in older adults'cognitive function. Implications are discussed in a cultural context.
The purpose of this research is to provide implications for the development of age-friendly industry of Korea by analyzing the age-friendly industry activation policy suggested by the Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy in response to the population ageing problems. Policy and theoretical implications are derived from an analysis of age-friendly industry activation policy as directly related to the improvement of the three major problems (i.e. health, economy, and loneliness) of Korean older people. This analysis focuses on its specific content, common and core logic, and the validity of the logic. The results show that: 1)the first Plan for Ageing Society and Population suggests a policy for improving poverty, 2)the second Plan for Ageing Society and Population suggests a policy for improving health, and 3)the third Plan for Ageing Society and Population suggests a policy for improving health and loneliness. All policies not only are commonly based on the logically limited concepts of successful ageing and active ageing, but also are characterized by narrow realm, insufficient content, and fragmented policy. The results result in the following policy implications: 1)the age-friendly industry activation policy should be developed with continuity, sufficiency, and diversity, 2)lessons from the limitation related with the de-contextualisation of successful ageing and its elective affinity with consumer capitalism, 3)lessons from the prevention-oriented perspective of active ageing, and 4)lessons from the social characteristics of (non-)psychological resources, limitation of the reablement related with social investment state. The analyses also provide a theoretical implication that a different perspective on the social construct of ageing is needed beyond the dichotomy of ageing based on modelling ageing. Lastly, the paper suggests not only the limitation of the research but also the preferred follow-up studies regarding age-friendly industry activation policy.
The present study aims to examine the mediating role of life satisfaction in the relationship between productive activities and future time perspective in later life. Drawn from the 7th wave of the Korea Longitudinal Study of Aging, our sample consists of a total of 6,756 older adults aged 55 and over. Complex samples analyses were conducted the relationship between productive activities, life satisfaction and future time perspective measured in two dimensions (i. e., life expectancy and job expectation). Results from complex samples analysis showed that productive activities were associated with life satisfaction and future time perspective. Employed older adults including unpaid family workers tended to have higher levels of life satisfaction and future time perspective (i.e., life expectancy and job expectation) than their counterparts. The relationship between productive activities and future time perspective was mediated by life satisfaction. Findings suggest that engaging in productive activities influences better satisfaction with life among older adults, which is eventually linked to an expansive view of the future. Policy implications were discussed that promoting productive activities in later life and age-friendly working environment should be encouraged.
