Morton's Neuroma (Interdigital Neuritis) (모턴씨 신경종(족지간 신경염))

  • Morton's neuroma is a common cause of forefoot pain, and is also known to be a entrapment neuropathy rather than a true tumor. Precise physical examination is necessary to differentiate from other diagnoses of similar symptoms. If proper conservative treatment modalities fail for this neuritis, neurectomy of interdigital nerve is generally performed, with the results of up to 80% of patient's satisfaction. However the failure rate of 2% to 35% should be improved by proper diagnosis and careful surgery.

The influence of Cognitive Coping on Sick Role Behavioral Compliance and Depression, Satisfaction with Life in Hemodialysis Patients (혈액투석환자의 인지적 대처전략에 따른 환자역할행위 이행 및 우울, 삶의 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the relationships between cognitive coping, sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction of hemodialysis patients based on the stress-coping model. The research is cross-sectional survey, 150 participants were recruited from 4 local clinics in Chungcheongbuk-do. As a results, the cognitive coping scores were significantly related to sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction. The coping strategies explained 20.5%, 10.5%, and 24.6% of the variances in sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction, respectively. The most powerful coping strategy was positive refocusing in sick role behavioral compliance, depression, and life satisfaction. The results of the study indicate that cognitive coping plays an essential role for psychological adaptation of hemodialysis patients. Therefore, the development and application of intervention program to improve adaption of hemodialysis patients are required.

Information Needs and Satisfaction among Family Members of Terminal Cancer Patients through Phone Cancer Information Services (말기 암 환자 가족의 전화상담을 통한 정보요구와 만족도 조사)

  • Purpose: This exploratory study was undertaken to analyze the information needs of family members of terminal cancer patients, collected through the telephone counselling service by National Cancer Information Center. Methods: The study included 113 family members of terminal cancer patients who had enrolled at the National Cancer Information Center for the period from June, 2007 through March, 2008 and had agreed to the survey. Results: The subjects (n=113) consisted of grown-up children (n=82) and spouses (n=8) of patients'. Those in their 40's (n=40) and 30's (n=36) accounted for the majority of the sample. The questions raised most were about the information on treatment methods (n=117), management of terminal cancer patients (n=46), terminal cancer patients' life (n=27), deathbed and prediction of remaining life (n=18), hospitalization (n=16), and financial support (n=15). Most of the subjects were satisfied with the telephone counseling services, and 69% of the subjects had come to know about the telephone counseling service via Internet, and 10.6% of them stated that the PR for the service was poor. Conclusion: It is deemed essential for the government to use the mass media for PR of the hospice services, since family members of terminal cancer patients' are less aware of the hospice conducive to enhancement of patients' remaining quality of life, being involued too deeply in their treatment.

A Study on the Spacial Environment Satisfaction for Evidence Based Design of Rehabilitative Health-Care Facilities -convergent approach for patient-centered rehabilitative healthcare service (근거중심 재활 공간 디자인을 위한 공간 환경 만족도 연구 -환자 중심 재활의료서비스를 위한 융복합적 접근)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate patient satisfaction for the spacial environment of the rehabilitative facilities, and by this to examine areas of patients' needs to develop patient-friendly improvement in spacial environment. 308 patients were surveyed at physical therapy centers of 6 hospitals or rehabilitative institutions in Daejeon with patient satisfaction questionnaire. The spatial environment satisfaction was categorized into 7 constructs and the data were statistically analyzed and compared by t-test and ANOVA according to the patient characteristics. As a result, inter-floor transfer was found to be the area with the least satisfaction, especially in the in-patient group. Locating floor level was the second lowest satisfied construct. Comfort was relatively highly satisfied construct overall, but patients with neurological disease had less satisfaction than with musculoskeletal disease. Patients in 20's were less satisfied in wayfinding than 60's. Satisfaction for interior design was lower in subject in 50's than 70's. These findings can be used as evidences to improve spacial environment design for rehabilitative facilities to the better patient satisfaction.

  • The objective of this research is to find out how strategy development and deployment effect on patients satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and work process in Korean hospitals. Previous researches suggested when establish a strategy had to reflect internal ability which are work process, employee satisfaction and others and external ability which are patients satisfaction and others. As a results, strategy development positive influence on patients satisfaction, employee satisfaction and work process, and strategy deployment positive influence on patients satisfaction, employee satisfaction and work process as well. Patients satisfaction positive influence on hospital performance and work process influence on hospital performance but employee satisfaction is not.

The Effects of Nursing Work Environment and Emotional Labor on Job Satisfaction of Nurses in Provincial Medical Centers (공공병원 간호사의 간호근무환경과 감정노동이 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Identifying the factors between nursing work environment and emotional labor to job satisfaction for nurses in public hospitals, 176 nurses who worked at six medical centers in Gyeonggi-do as study subjects were selected. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test, post-test Scheffe's test, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN program(23.0). In the results to identify the factors that influence the job satisfaction, the better the nursing work environment(β=.797, p=.000) and the lower the degree of emotional labor(β=-.089, p=.045), the higher the job satisfaction. Additionally, job satisfaction increased when nurses cared the fewer number of patients. To increase job satisfaction for nurses, the policy should be considered to care fewer patients per a nurse, improve work environment and decrease emotional labor.

Study on the Life Satisfaction of Patients Receiving Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorders (치료를 받는 알코올사용장애 환자의 삶의 만족에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting life satisfaction in patients with alcohol use disorder. Participants were recruited at outpatient treatment facilities in two cites. Data were collected from October 1 to December 30, 2016, using self-report questionnaires. Abstinence self-efficacy, family support, and life satisfaction were investigated. 152 patients with alcohol use disorder participated in this study. Mean score for life satisfaction was 3.24. Life satisfaction had a positive correlation with abstinence self-efficacy and family support. Factors affecting life satisfaction in these men were abstinence self-efficacy. Findings indicate that abstinence self-efficacy and perceived mental health satisfaction are important variables influencing life satisfaction in patients with alcohol use disorder. Development and provision of intervention programs to increase abstinence self-efficacy and perceived mental health satisfaction will help to increase life satisfaction in patients with alcohol use disorder.

  • This study aims at providing an upgraded suggestion to improve satisfaction for the family caregiver. This study was conducted to find the relationship between satisfaction and family support and outcome indicator to investigate the factors that have influence on the satisfaction. The study population was 126 families of 5 elderly residing in institutionalized elderly homes in seoul and kyunggi. The data collection was measured satisfaction, family support, and outcome indicator instrument. The satisfaction showed meaning relationship with outcome indicator and family support. Explainary power of independent variables of product index was 23%. Factors influencing satisfaction for the family was economic level, family support and outcome indicator. This study was done to give suggestions to improve family caregiver satisfaction and to serve as a basis for policy strategies by examining the current conditions of the nursing facilities.

  • A diabetes self-management serious game, 'Roly Poly 160' is developed for Type II diabetes patients to decrease their blood Sugar level. For verifying the effectiveness of 'Roly Poly 160', we examined the satisfaction survey. Data were collected from the diabetes patients and public those who have used 'Roly Poly 160' through D Community health center and S Community health center in Gwangju, from November, 27, 2018 to December, 4, 2018. 67 people returned the survey through the 'Roly Poly 160' APP. The overall average satisfaction level was 3.7 out of 5.

Patient Satisfaction with Cancer Pain Management (암성통증관리 만족도)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the present status of patients' satisfaction and the reasons for any satisfaction or dissatisfaction in cancer pain management Methods : A cross-sectional survey was used to obtain the feedback about pain management. The results of the survey were collected from 59 in- or out-patient who had cancer treatment at two of the teaching hospitals in Seoul from July, 2002 to November, 2002. The data was obtained by a structured questionnaire based on the American Cancer Society Patient Outcome Questionnaire(APS-POQ) and other previous research. The clinical information for all patients were compiled by reviewing their medical records. Resuts : 1) The subjects' mean score of the worst pain was 6.77, the average pain score was 3.80, and the pain score after management was 2.93 for the past 24 hours. The mean score of total pain interference was $25.03{\pm}12.82$. Many of the subjects had false beliefs about pain such as 'the experience of pain is a sign that the illness has gotten worse', 'pain medicine should be 'saved' in case the pain gets worse' and 'people get addicted to pain medicine easily'. 2) 66.1% of the subjects were properly medicated with analgesics. 33.9% of the subjects reported use of various methods in controlling pain other than the prescribed medication. Only 33.9% of the subjects had a chance to be educated about pain management by doctors or nurses. 3) The mean score of patients' satisfaction with pain management was $4.19{\pm}1.14$. 72.9% of the subjects answered 'satisfied' with pain management. The reasons for dissatisfaction were 'the pain was not relieved even after the pain management', 'I was not quickly and promptly treated when I complained of pain', 'doctors and nurses didn't pay much attention to my complaints of pain.', and 'there was no appropriate information given on the methods of administration, effect duration and side effects of pain medicine.' The reasons for satisfaction were: 'the pain was relieved after the pain management.', 'doctors and nurses quickly and promptly controlled my pain.', 'doctors and nurses paid enough attention to my complaints of pain.' and 'trust in my physician'. 4) In pain severity or pain interference, no significant difference was found between the satisfied group and dissatisfied group. On the belief 'good patients avoid talking about pain', a significant difference was found between the satisfied group and dissatisfied group. Conclusions : The patients' satisfaction with cancer pain management has increased over the years but still about 30% of patients reported to be 'not satisfied' for various reasons. The results of this study suggest that patients' education should be done to improve satisfaction in the pain management program.
