  • The study was aimed to identify the educational needs for gerontological nursing using the nursing diagnosis classification of hospital nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 245 nurses who had experience caring for older patients within 1-year at two nurse web cafes. As a result of the study, 43 nursing diagnoses were classified into 6 areas: acute care, daily life care, education and counseling, environment and resource management, health promotion, and geriatric disease management. Nursing educational needs differed according to the age, sex, marital status, education level, size of the hospital, and working experience of the nurse. In order to effectively perform nursing care for the elderly and geriatric patients, it may be necessary to investigate the needs of continuous education and develop a detailed education program.

  • In this study, an attempt was made to prepare an effective human rights sensitivity education plan for nursing students. This study was before and after a non-equal control group that identified human rights sensitivity and patient rights awareness. As a result of the study, the human rights sensitivity of the subjects averaged 40.22 out of 90 points. The effect on human rights sensitivity through case-based human rights sensitivity education showed that students who received training to improve case-based human rights sensitivity improved human rights sensitivity and patient rights awareness than those who did not(t=2.765,p=.006, t=-5.768,p=.000). As a result of this study, it is considered that the foundation of the curriculum to improve the human rights sensitivity of nursing students should be prepared. We propose a later study on the relationship between clinical practice and human rights sensitivity.

Methods: For the development of an audio-visual resource, a initial education material was produced in the form of simple and accessible Power Point handouts based on literature study. Then, the program was completed through five rounds of a process, including expert advice, revision, update and evaluation. Results: The final version of the program was filmed with cooperation of the medical literature information division. Using the program, patients and families were educated through five phases over three sessions for a total 26 minutes and 34 seconds. Conclusion: The significance of this study lies in the fact that it was conducted after the establishment of the palliative care ward, which made it easier for nurses provide the education. It is expected that the program may be used by hospice specialists as well as nurses as an education resource for hospice patients and their families.

  • This study was to identify the educational needs for mental health nursing among undergraduate nursing students, prioritizing the areas where require extensive convergence learning via simulation. One hundred and forty students completed the survey where data accrued from between March-May 2020. The educational needs for mental health nursing and nursing care schizophrenia patients were assessed using a self-reporting questionnaire, which included 19 and 15 items, respectively. Additional three essay questions were used to obtain information regarding previous simulation education experience. Higher educational needs in nursing care for schizophrenia were identified and the highest-priority need is communication skills. Factors, including realistic experience with standardized patients, teamwork, and feedback from the lecturers, affect positive experiences in mental health nursing simulation. The findings suggest that educational programs to improve communication skills are necessary for better mental health nursing competency. Well-designed and convergence based simulation programs providing real-like clinical experience would ensure optimal learning outcomes.
