Explosions of vapor cloud formed due to the leakage from installations with flammable fuels have often occurred in Korea and foreign countries. In this study, TNT equivalency method and Multi-Energy method for vapor cloud explosion blast modelling are described and demonstrated in a case study. As TNT equivalency method is simple and direct, it has been widely used for modelling a vapor cloud explosion blast. But TNT equivalency method found to be difficult to select a proper correlation between the amount of combustion energy produced from the vapor cloud explosion and the equivalent amount of TNT to model its blast effects. Multi-Energy method assumes that the strength of vapor cloud explosion blast depends on the layout of the space where the vapor cloud is spreading. Strictly speaking, the explosive potential of a vapor cloud is dependent upon the density of the obstructed regions. In this study, Flixborough accident are analyzed as a case study to assess the applicability of TNT equivalency method and Multi-Energy method. TNT equivalency method and Multi-Energy method found to be applicable if coefficient of TNT equivalency and coefficient of strength of explosion blast are selected properly.
The concrete creep deformation of a hybrid composite section can cause additional deformation of the composite section and the stress relaxation of pre-compressive stress on the concrete section due to partial restraint of the deformation. In this study, the stress relaxation coefficient method (SRCM) is derived for simple analysis of complicate hybrid or composite sections for engineering purpose. Also, an equation of the stress relaxation coefficient (SRC) required for the SRCM is proposed. The SRCM is derived with the parameters of a creep coefficient, section and loading properties using the same method as the constant-creep step-by-step method (CC-SSM). The errors of the SRCM is improved by using the proposed SRC equation than the average SRC's which were estimated from the CC-SSM. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the SRCM with the proposed SRC equation for concrete with creep coefficient less than 3 was less than 1.2% to the creep deformation at the free condition and was 3.3% for the 99% reliability. The proposed SRC equation reflects the internal restraint of composite sections, and the effective modulus of elasticity computed with the proposed SRC can be used effectively to estimate the rigidity of a composite section in a numerical analysis which can be applied in analysis of the external restrain effect of boundary conditions.

The role of the torquer in dynamically tuned gyroscope (DTG) is to erect the slanted rotor straight. This IBper presents the design method of the torquer. The torquer must satisfy the desired maximum angular velocity condition. The performance of magnet-residual flux density, maximum energy product, and so on-is limited by the material characteristics. So we should design the torquer with the limited condition that magnet performance is given. If the mechanical size of DTG is deter-mined, the dimension of the torquer is calculated and the space of the torquer becomes constant. Therefore, if we determine the diameter of the torquer coil, the number of coil turns is calculated automatically. Using these dimensions, we can calculate the torque and the scale factor. The maximum angular velocity is computed if we know the maximum current density. The analysis of the torquer was carried out by the 3-dimensional finite element method. The proposed algorithm of the torquer design was valid in comparison with the experimental data obtained from fabricated DTG.
A new simple method to estimate the earth quantity which is basic data for making the plan of mountain forest road is tried to develop as one of ways to reduce time cost of plan making. The zero-line surveying method, the concept of 2/3 road width in cut-away part and of same quantity between cut-away and fill-up earth which are the backgrounds to develop this method is introduced and explaned also it's theoritical propriety. Under the precondition which have to apply above concepts for constructing the mountain forest road the exchange table for estimating the earth quantity is made like table 3 and 4 through being calculated by a trigonometric function. Table 3 can be used to estimate the earth quantity on the cut-away road-width according to slope of terrain and different road-width, and table 4 can be applied to calculate the quantity of cut-away earth when to know the road-width of cut-away. When using these tables the performance of field surveying and office work for road plan will be highly increased.

In designing a resonant circuit of the inverter which puts induction heating with high frequency to the load, an inductance L of the circuit, the coupling coefficient of a transformer transfering the output power to load, and the coupling coefficient of load circuit heating with coil affect to the output power of a resonant circuit, the circuit Q and the frequency. Those characteristics of the circuit are analyzed through Thevenan's equivalent circuit of the coupling coefficient type which is derived from the T-type equivalent circuit of a transformer. On this equivalent circuit, the impedance of a transformer referred to its primary side is not only proportional the square of turn ratio, nZ, but also the square of coupling coefficient, K2 This paper proposed a more accurate fundamental method to design a resonant circuit of the inverter by using the Thevenan's equivalent circuit.
In this paper, the existing formulas of the step-by-step method were generalized for effective estimation of responses of complicated composite sections due to long-term deformation of concrete. The initial transformed section properties of the composite section were derived from material and section properties of concrete section and sections which confine the longterm deformation of concrete. The transformed section properties at each step were derived from the effective modulus of elasticity considered the creep coefficient variation. Improved formulas of the step-by-step method for generalized responses were derived by introducing 5 generalized parameters. The formulas can be more simplified by applying constant increment of creep coefficient at each step. The constant increment of creep coefficient at each step can also reduce computing time and make equal computing error of each step. The generalized responses for axial elastic strain of concrete section were most sensitive to the area rate of concrete section, and the ratio of the second moment of the confining section area was more sensitive than that of the concrete section. Those for elastic curvature of concrete section were most sensitive to the ratio of the second moment of concrete section area.

The technique for calibrating standard particles larger than 1 $\mu$m by using an optical array sizing method has been established. The system consists of an optical microscope with transmission light source, a CCD camera, and a computer equipped with a frame grabber. The center distance between two spheres located at both ends of a row which consists of N spheres is measured in terms of pixel numbers, and divided by (N-1) to obtain the average pixel numbers per particle. This value is multiplied by length conversion constant, which has been determined in advance, to obtain the mean diameter of polystylene spheres. The length conversion constant is found from the microscopic image of calibrated standard stage micrometer plate. In order to reduce error in finding center positions of the scale and particles in the image, a software filter which dilates bright (or dark) object has been used. Spheres having nominal size of 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10$\mu$m were measured, and the maximum deviation of the measured mean diameter valus from their certified values was 0.7%. Standard particles which is larger than 1 $\mu$m can be calibrated by this method with measuredment uncertainy (k=2) lees than 1.53%.

In this paper, the nonlinear parameter estimation method using the estimated hysteresis of each structural members was studied for the purpose of efficient seismic damage prediction and estimation of MDOF nonlinear structural model in the shaking table test. The hysteresis of each structural members can be obtained by the conversion of measured response histories into relative motions of each structural members and member forces. These hysteresis can be used to evaluate various kinds of damage indices of each structural members. The MDOF nonlinear structural model for further analysis(re-analysis) can be easily reconstructed using estimated nonlinear structural parameters of each structural members. To demonstrate the proposed techniques, several numerical and experimental example analyses are carried out. The results indicate that the proposed method can be very useful to assess local seismic damages of structures.
