A numerical study on effects of drag coefficient of vehicle on jet fans in case of fire in road tunnels (도로터널 화재시 차량의 항력계수가 제연용 제연팬에 미치는 영향에 대한 해석적 연구)

  • The road tunnel install a vent for the purpose of ventilation and smoke control. Ventilation equipment capacity(number of jet fans) depends on from the condition that of the pressure and ventilation resistance. Pressure and the resistance under operating vehicle have affected on the drag coefficient. The drag coefficient of the tunnel have affected by the blockage effect and slipstream effects. However, when calculating the ventilation fan, are not properly consider taking into account such effects. Therefore, ventilation force may have been slightly overestimated. This paper describes the drag coefficient through a numerical analysis to calculate the equivalent resistance area that reflects the vehicle distance, and examined the equivalent resistance area. The ventilation coefficient corresponding to the result heavy vehicle mixing ratio of the present study was not clear. Equivalent resistance area had reduced by about 86% compared to the road design handbook current standards. Also it had analyzed and reduced to 62.2% compared to Korea Highway Corporation ventilation design criteria ratio, which is the old standard.

A numerical study of the effects of the ventilation velocity on the thermal characteristics in underground utility tunnel (지하공동구 터널내 풍속 변화에 따른 열특성에 관한 수치 해석적 연구)

  • In this research, thermal design data such as heat transfer coefficient on the wall surface required for ventilation system design which is to prevent the temperature rise in the underground utility tunnel that three sides are adjoined with the ground was investigated in numerical analalysis. The numerical model has been devised including the tunnel lining of the underground utility tunnel in order to take account for the heat transfer in the tunnel walls. The air temperature in the tunnel, wall temperature, and the heating value through the wall based on heating value(117~468 kW/km) of the power cable installed in the tunnel and the wind speed in the tunnel(0.5~4.0 m/s) were calculated by CFD simulation. In addition, the wall heat transfer coefficient was computed from the results analysis, and the limit distance used to keep the air temperature in the tunnel stable was examined through the research. The convective heat transfer coefficient at the wall surface shows unstable pattern at the inlet area. However, it converges to a constant value beyond approximately 100 meter. The tunnel wall heat transfer coefficient is $3.1{\sim}9.16W/m^2^{\circ}C$ depending on the wind speed, and following is the dimensionless number:$Nu=1.081Re^{0.4927}({\mu}/{\mu}_w)^{0.14}$. This study has suggested the prediction model of temperature in the tunnel based on the thermal resistance analysis technique, and it is appraised that deviation can be used in the range of 3% estimation.

  • The convective heat transfer of a crossflow fin-tube heat exchanger was studied numerically. In order to investigate the dependence of the heat transfer performance on the fan position, several cases with different blowing and suction types were selected for the fan position. A staggered tube arrangement was used for the heat exchanger, and the temperatures of the tube wall and air were $50^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The three-dimensional flow structures were examined based on the results. In addition, the convective heat transfer coefficient and mean temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger were analyzed for the various fan positions, and the heat transfer performance was investigated

High-Efficiency Design of a Ventilation Axial-Flow Fan by Using Weighted Average Surrogate Models (가중평균대리모델을 이용한 환기용 축류송풍기의 고효율 최적설계)

  • An optimization procedure for the design of a ventilation axial-flow fan is presented in this paper. Flow analyses of the preliminary fan are performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations via a finite-volume solver with the shear-stress transport turbulence model as a turbulence closure. Three variables, the hub-to-tip ratio and the stagger angles at the mid and tip spans, are selected for the optimization. The Latin-hypercube sampling method as a design-of-experiments technique is used to generate twenty-five design points within the design space. and the weighted average surrogate models, WTA1, WTA2, and WTA3, are applied for find optimal designs. The results show that the efficiency is considerably enhanced.

Effects of Baffle Structure Variation on Heat Transfer Performance in a Shell-Tube Heat Exchanger (배플 구조변경이 Shell-Tube 열교환기의 열전달성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Shell-tube heat exchanger is widely applied in industrial field by easily manufacturing as to various size and flow patterns. In this study, by changing baffle's cut direction, tilt angle and rotational angle as well as by using SST (Shear Stress Transport) $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model in ANSYS FLUENT v.14, the heat transfer rate and pressure drop characteristics of inner shell will be analyzed to improve heat transfer ability. As a result of analysis, heat transfer performance according to cut direction of baffle has been improved with vertical model B and angle $45^{\circ}$ model C than horizontal model A. In addition, the tilt $10^{\circ}$ of the baffle and rotational angle $0^{\circ}-90^{\circ}-180^{\circ}-270^{\circ}$ of model D showed better result in heat transfer rate and pressure drop.

Analysis of a Double Pipe Heat Exchanger for Waste Solvent Recovery (폐용제 회수용 이중관형 열교환기 특성 해석)

  • This study describes to analyze the heat transfer characteristics of waste solvent recovery system using a double pipe heat exchanger heating solvent by the hot oil. The solvent recovery system consists of the feeding pump, the double pipe heat exchanger, the vacuum spray chamber, and the condenser. A double pipe heat exchanger consists of the first section to conduct the heating of solvent to the thermal saturated point and the second section to evaporate the saturated solvent. The heat transfer area for vaporization of water, benzene and alkylbenzene was predicted by the heat balance modelling and experimentally measured from the temperature distribution as a function of solvent flow rate and heating temperature. The required heat transfer area for vaporization was increased with increasing solvent flow rates and with decreasing heating temperatures due to decreased quantity of transferred heat per the unit area. Theoretical modelling of the heat transfer area for solvents vaporization in the pipe showed good agreement with experimental results. Results showed to be suitable for the waste solvent recovery using a double pipe heat exchanger.
