An experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of a tube row, a fin pitch and an inlet humidity on air-side heat and mass transfer performance of louvered fin-tube heat exchangers under wet conditions. Experimental conditions were varied by three fin pitches, two rows, two inlet relative humidities. Experimental results showed that the heat transfer performance decreased and the friction increased with the decrease of fin pitch, for 2 row heat exchanger. The effect of fin pitch on heat transfer performance was negligible with 3 row heat exchanger. The changes in relative humidity was not affected heat transfer and friction. However, the mass transfer performance was slightly decreased with the increase of relative humidity and with the decrease of fin pitch. The mass transfer performance of the louvered fin-tube heat exchanger decreased with the decrease of the fin pitch and was different according to the number of tube row.

Generally, the total ventilation resistance coefficient in a tunnel consists of inlet/outlet loss coefficient, wall friction coefficient, and other loss coefficient caused by sudden expansion and contraction of cross-section, etc. For the tunnel before opening, when the running ventilation fan is stopped, the wind speed in the tunnel is reduced by the total ventilation resistance drag. The velocity decay method is comparatively stable and easy to estimate the wall friction coefficient in the pre-opening tunnel. However, the existing study reported that when the converging wind speed is a negative value after the ventilation fan stops, it is difficult to estimate the wall friction coefficient according to the velocity decay method. On the other hand, for the operating tunnel in which the piston effect acts, a more complex process is performed; however, a reasonable wall friction coefficient can be estimated. This paper aims at suggesting a method to minimize the measurement variables of the piston effect and reviewing a method that can be applied to the operating tunnel. Also, in this study, a new method has been developed, which enables to calculate an variation of the piston effect if the piston effect is constant with a sudden change of external natural wind occurring while the wind speed in the tunnel decreases after the ventilation fan stops, and a programming logic has been also developed, which enables dynamic simulation analysis in order to estimate the wall friction coefficient in a tunnel.

Drag coefficient is one of the critical design factors to quantify the piston effect in vehicle tunnels. Several problems are raised on the drag coefficient currently applied for the ventilation system design; unverified adoption of the projected frontal area of the vehicle from the foreign study in the past, and lack of consideration for the slip-streaming effect. This study aims at better estimation of the traffic-induced ventilation force in the local tunnels. Values for the projected frontal area of the vehicles running on the local roads at present are proposed and results of an extensive CFD study are studied on the slip-streaming effects in various traffic conditions to quantify $K_{blockage}$ and the drag coefficient in the domestic tunnels.
In this study, the emission rate of pollutant was modified according to the published standards, and the distribution of pollutant concentration was analyzed for each vehicle velocity. This modified emission rate was applied to a model tunnel and it was proved that the required air quantity was reduced to 49%, compared to the PIARC method. From the simulation result, it was proved by using statistics that the most sensitive factor among them is the friction coefficient and it was modified to the value in the range of 0.018 to 0.021. It is also expected that the required air quantity can be decreased form 14.4% to 19.2% according as the coefficient is applied to the domestic model tunnels. In conclusion, it is proposed that the number of jet fans can be reduced and the annual operating cost can be curtailed as well.

실험에서는 나선형 6fin/in, 8fin/1n, 10fin/in 열교환기와 판형 8fin/in 열교환기를 사용하였으며, 풍속을 0.486m/s와 2.214m/s로, 수속을 1m/s~4m/s로 하여 실험을 행하였다.

We investigate the heat-transfer and pressure-drop characteristics of fin-and-tube heat exchangers with a copper plate or copper spiral fins. Twenty-four samples with different fin pitches and tube rows were tested. For both configurations, the effect of the fin pitch on the j factor is negligible, and the f factor increases with the fin pitch. The effect of the tube row depends on the configuration. For plate fin-and-tube heat exchangers, the j factor decreases as the row number increases; the reverse is true for spiral exchangers. We explain this by considering the flow pattern. The j factor for plate fin-and-tube heat exchangers is larger than that for spiral exchangers, and the difference decreases as the row number increases. The f factor of the plate fin-and-tube heat exchanger is also larger. We compare our results with existing predictions of correlations.
Ventilation rates, inside and outside weather data were measured in a arch-shape single-span plastic greenhouse growing tomatoes. On the roof of the experimental greenhouse, round windows which have a diameter of 0.6 m were installed at intervals of 8m. It showed that the number of air changes in this greenhouse were average 0.17 volumes per minute and in the range of 0.02 to 0.32 volumes per minute. These air changes are insufficient to meet the recommended ventilation rate for commercial greenhouses, and it is estimated that interval of 6 m is appropriate for spring or fall season. For summer season, it is necessary to narrow the space or to enlarge the open area of roof windows. Using the heat balance model, the evapotranspiration coefficients of greenhouse tomatoes were estimated from experimental ventilation data, overall heat transfer and solar radiation. It showed that the evapotranspiration coefficients were average 0.62 and in the 0.39 to 0.85 range. We suggest applying 0.6 as the evapotranspiration coefficient in design of ventilation for the single-span tomato greenhouses.

The objective of this study is to investigate the air-side heat transfer characteristics of a spirally-coiled circular fin-tube heat exchanger for various geometric parameters under non-frosting conditions. The heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchanger were analyzed with respect to heat exchanger geometries, and then, the characteristics were compared with those of rectangular-plate fin-tube heat exchangers with discrete fins. The heat transfer coefficient increased with a decrease in the number of tube rows and an increase in the fin pitch. The optimum length of the L-foot was 2.7 mm. In addition, the heat transfer rate increased with a decrease in the tube pitch and the tube thickness. The heat transfer coefficient of the spirally-coiled circular fin-tube heat exchanger was 24.3% higher than that of the rectangular-plate fin-tube heat exchanger.

The amount of ventilation required in making the tunnel ventilation plan is an important factor for determining the capacity of the ventilation system. The amount of pollutant emission for each type of vehicle (basic emission amount for the design of ventilation volume) for estimating the required ventilation amount is based on the 'Standard for Allowing the Emission for the car manufacturing', proposed by Ministry of Environment. However, in 2013, the Ministry of Environment announced the 'Regulations on the calculation method of total emissions from vehicles' as a regulation for calculating the pollutants emitted from vehicles. In this regulation, there are the 'Emission factors for each type of vehicle'. Therefore, it is necessary to review the application of the Regulation to the estimation of the required ventilation volume for the road tunnel. In this study, the influence of the strengthened emission regulation in 2015 caused by the case of manipulation of emission volume for the diesel vehicle on the calculation of the required ventilation volume in the road tunnel has been checked. In addition, in this study, the required ventilation volume calculated according to the Standard for Allowing the Emission for the car manufacturing revised by Ministry of Environment and "Emission factors for each type of vehicle" and that calculated according to the EURO emission standard were compared for analysis. This study has implications that it provides the basic design data for calculating the reasonable ventilation capacity of the ventilation system based on the ground for calculating the required ventilation volume.
