This study was designed to investigate the effects on anti-oxidative activities and increasing extraction yield of Aralia elata Cortex by gamma irradiation. Electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis as physical techniques for irradiation identification of Aralia elata showed that a pair of peak appeared on a space of 6.0 mT at the left and right of symmetric unspecific central ESR spectrums, confirming that the plant was gamma-irradiated. The optimum extracting conditions for preparing gamma irradiated samples from Aralia elata Cortex were to extract with 50% ethanol for 15 hrs after 10 kGy irradiation. DPPH scavenging activity and ABTS radical cation inhibitory activity of the water and 50% ethanol extracts from non irradiated and irradiated Aralia elata Cortex was very high as over 80% and 98%, respectively, at tested low concentration of $50{\mu}g/mL$. Antioxidant protection factor (PF) as anti-oxidation indicator of lipophilic compounds showed a very high level of activity as 2.18~2.78 PF. As for TBARs, water and ethanol extracts showed high level. Increase of TBARs inhibitory activity of water extracts was not shown by gamma-ray irradiation but ethanol extracts showed slight increasement of TBARs inhibitory activity with 10 kGy gamma-ray irradiation. These results shown confirmed increasement of extraction yield for phenolic compounds and anti-oxidative activity from Aralia elata. Thus, the treatment of gamma-irradiation can be used a way to amplify a solubility for biological active compounds and anti-oxidative activity in plants.
Physicochemical changes in corn starch caused by irradiation were investigated, and irradiated samples were identified. Viscosity, TBA value, Hunter color, and total viable count were measured after irradiation of corn starch. Corn starches from Korea and China were irradiated at 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 15 kGy using a $Co^{60}$ irradiator and stored for 9 months at $0^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. Viscosity and specific parameter values decreased in all samples with increasing irradiation dosage at 50 rpm, showing a dose-dependent relationship $(above\;R^2=0.80)$ between non-irradiated and irradiated samples during storage. These results suggest that detection of irradiated corn starches is possible using viscometric method during storage. Total viable count, TBA value, and Hunter color were determined as supplemental indices for measuring viscosities of samples. Total viable count and TBA values showed dose-dependent relationship $(2.5{\sim}15 kGy)$. Differences in viscosity and total viable count, and TBA values among non-irradiated samples showed little changes with the lapse of post-irradiation time, but were still distinguishable for more than 6 months at $0^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ for corn starches from korea and China.
The effects of electron beam (e-beam) irradiation at up to 10 kGy on the microbiological and physicochemical properties of dried red pepper powders were studied. Samples from Korea, China, and Vietnam were included in this study. In untreated samples, the total number of microbes, such as total aerobic bacteria, yeasts and molds, was in the range of $10^6-10^7CFU/g$. E-beam irradiation at 5 kGy reduced the microbial load by 2-4 log cycles, thus improving the hygienic quality of the samples. Moisture and pH of the samples were unchanged after e-beam irradiation. Reducing sugar content decreased at 1 kGy, followed by a gradual increase at higher radiation doses. At 5 kGy, no significant changes in the content of capsaicinoids were observed between the irradiated and control samples, while a 10 kGy dose led to a significant decrease. The content of pigments did not exhibit apparent changes with increasing dose of irradiation.

Multistep detection was peformed to identify irradiated dried anchovy. In thermoluminescence (TL) analysis, non-irradiated samples represented a lower peak at about 28$0^{\circ}C$, but irradiated samples showed a higher peak at around 20$0^{\circ}C$. The normalization with a re-irradiation step at 1 kGy could verify the identification results. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy for bones separated from irradiated anchovy revealed specific signals (g=2.002,1.998) derived from a hydroxyapatite radical, which intensities were in proportion to the irradiation doses and still detectable even after 6 months of storage at -2$0^{\circ}C$. Six kinds of hydrocarbons (HC) were observed in dried anchovy samples and 1,7-hexadecadiene and 1-hexadecene were only detected in irradiated anchovy at 1 kGy or more. Also among 3 kinds of radiation-induced 2-alkylcyclobutanones (2-ACB) observed, 2-dodecylcy-clobutanone and 2-tetradecylcyclobutanone were unique in irradiated anchovy. As a result, the concentration of radiation-induced HCs and 2-ACBs were dependent on the irradiation dose and detectable after 6 months of storage. However, TL and ESR analyses were found simpler than the other methods for identification of irradiated boiled-dried anchovy.
The optimum design of LED device for irradiation of 460 nm blue light on extruded rice cake using simulation and the effect of the blue light on the inactivation of Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) group on the rice cake were investigated. The irradiated light intensity patterns on the surface area of the sample were simulated with three different LED arrays (centered, cross, and evenly spaced) and at various distances (22, 32, 42 mm) between the LED modules and the sample. In addition, the uniformity was calculated as Petri factor. The evenly spaced array resulted the most uniform light intensity pattern in the simulation, and the Petri factor of 32 and 42 mm of the distances showed higher than 0.9, which represents the ideal uniformity of LED device. The bacterial population of the rice cake decreased to less than the initial bacterial population during exposure to LED blue light, whereas the bacterial population of the control sample increased. The bacterial count of the rice cake after blue light irradiation for 24 h was 1.21 log CFU/g lower than the control sample. Petri factor increased with increase of the distance between the light source and sample, however, the reduction rate of B. cereus group decreased. Therefore, the design of LED device, that represented the Petri factor higher than 0.9 and inactivated the population of B. cereus group, with evenly spaced and 32 mm of distance between the light source and sample was suitable for extending shelf-life of rice cake.

In 2020, the diversity of benthic macroinvertebrate communities was investigated in the Sohan stream, an ecological and landscape conservation area, and the results were compared with the previous research conducted in 2011. In total, 42 species (two phyla, three classes, and seven orders) were found in the Sohan stream. Species richness and abundance sharply decreased at all sampling sites because of Typhoons Haishen and Maysak in 2020, which had a direct impact on the stream. In the functional feeding group, the ratio of collector-gatherers was the highest at all sampling sites. However, during the autumn season, the shredder ratio increased from 13.4% to 42.4% in the uppermost stream site. Compared with the diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates surveyed in 2011, a total of 53 species (two phyla, three classes, and eight orders) were found. The percentage of species richness and abundance of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera was more than 50% both in 2011 and 2020. Only the richness of Ephemeroptera was significantly different between them (2011: 2.9 and 2020: 6.7). In this study, the abrupt changes of species richness and abundance in benthic macroinvertebrate were not observed before and after the designation of an ecological and landscape conservation area. However, it is necessary to monitor benthic macroinvertebrates in order to confirm that biodiversity is continuously maintained long after the designation of the ecological and landscape conservation area.

In this study, we offered the results of geophysical and geochemical survey on the municipal waste disposal area to delineate the size and extent of leachate contamination. Preliminary to intensive geochemical investigation, we performed two geophysical methods to characterize the survey area. Electromagnetic (EM) and magnetic method were used far site investigation. From the EM method, we can get the information of soil conductivity directly related to the leachate of the contaminations and from magnetic anomalies we can find the boundary of landfill which is not identified on the surface due to soil capping. The results of geophysical survey were well matched to those of geochemical method carried out inside and near the landfill. Electric conductivity (EC) of the groundwater sampled from low resistivity anomaly region of EM result was higher than background value and the border estimated from the magnetic survey showed good agreement with that estimated from the soil gas detection survey.
Portal Dosimetry was verified using EPID to secure the clinical application and reliability of the existing research dose evaluation. The dose distribution of Geant4 was compared with the measured value by 360° rotational irradiation with a 2.5 cm cone for stereotactic brain surgery. To confirm the dose distribution of patients with brain metastasis, the dose distribution investigated by inserting a Gafchromic EBT film into the parietal phantom and the dose distribution obtained from the parietal phantom using VMAT are compared and applied to actual patients. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the accuracy of the beam center and the center of the couch coincide accurately with an error within 1mm as a result of QA through a pin ball. In addition, it was confirmed that the EBT3 film has excellent linearity in the range of 0 to 10 Gy according to various dose irradiation. In the same setting as the two cervical phantoms, we confirm that the implementation and simulation results calculations of dose calculations based on Geant4 using photon beams match the experimental data within the treatment planning volume (PTV). Therefore, volume modulated arc treatment (VMAT) 360° rotational irradiation was performed, and the result of iso-dose distribution analysis by rotational irradiation confirmed that it is appropriate to include a virtual tumor.
