  • Barley, garlic, and soybean were cultivated in the silt loam, sandy loam, and loam, respectively, and the absorbing patterns of N, P, and K during growing of the crops were determined. While, the leaching of N, P, and K applied in the above soils in four levels of topsoil depths and in four leachate levels of excess precipitation was measured through the column. The depths of the soil were devised to 20, 35, 50, and 65cm, and the levels of excess water were classified to each leachate of 20, 40, 60, and 80mm precipitation, and nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium in each fraction of the leachate were analyzed. By the analyses of the chemical components during growth of the crops, their absorbing patterns of N, P, and K were investigated. The order of N-leachings in the soils was sandy loam > loam > silt loam, and the leaching of $K_2O$ was very similar to N. The leaching of $P_2O_5$ was slight in all kinds of the soils. By the combination of the absorbing patterns of the crops in three kinds of soils and the leaching of the nitrogen in four levels of soil depth and four levels of excess precipitation, the method to replace the nitrogen lost by leaching was presented.

  • In this study, science teachers' and students' perceptions were searched on lectures and experiment of law of definite proportion in middle school science classes. For this study, the three teachers' lessons were observed and recorded, following interviews related to teachers' perceptions on the lessons and experiments. Also, We analyzed students' science scores, cognitive levels, science attitude, experimental reports, etc. According to the results, the three teachers had different focuses in the lectures. Chemistry teachers accentuated calculation of proportions and application rather than basic conceptions. But the students could not understand basic conceptions properly. The teachers spend long time to explain experimental procedures by assuming a low performance level of students in experimental classes. And the teachers had negative perceptions about error of results. The students could not understand the experiment results well, tried to manipulate data artificially, and had negative perceptions about error of results like the teachers. We suggested that these problems might be solved by changing teachers' perceptions on school science lectures and experiments.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects on the growth of soybean and carrot, and these uptake of inorganic components, after the application of sewage sludge disgested anaerobically at wastewater treatment plant for about 25 days. With the application of the sludge, some chemical properties of soil was improved and heavy metals, as Pb, Cd, Cr, As and Hg, in finally harvested crops were not detected. With an increase in the application of the sludge, the uptake of N, P, K, and Ca in carrot was increased and also in the yield of two crops. In related to the quality of carrot, however, application of unmatured sewage sludge showed to deteriorate the visual quality with an irregularity of carrot's surface, despite of the increase of ${\beta}$-carotene concentration with an increased application of the sludge. The results suggest that for a land application of sewage sludge it should be necessarily stabilized by means such as composting.

  • The Korean fresh pork loins in vacuum packaged were obtained from three different Korean export companies and investigated for their proximate composition and physico-chemical characteristics. The fresh pork loins were stored at 2$^{\circ}C$ for 50 days and analyzed with an interval of 5∼10 days. In proximate analyses, the moisture contents of pork loins from the company I were higher, the protein contents from the company II were higher, and fat contents from the companies II and III were higher compared to those from the other companies. The pH of loins increased as storage period increased. The shear value of loins from company II showed significantly lower level and tended to decrease during storage. However, the water holding capacity and the purge loss of loins from company II increased during storage periods.

  • Flammable liquids residues in fire debris and pyrolysis products of flammable materials were analyzed by using Gas detecting tube, Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometers (GC/MS), and Pyrolyzer. Comparison studies between chemical components detected in debris fired with and without Flammable liquids were performed. Though Flammable liquids were not present in debris, Gas detecting tube colors were also changed. Chemical components produced from conventional combustions were different from those produced from pyrolysis. Due to the difference of the reaction conditions between combustions and pyrolysis, different chemical products were produced. Petrochemical products of PVC wood-linoleum block could produce ignitable chemicals, such as toluene, ethylbenzene, undecane, and dodecane. So, for better fire investigation more consideration of those chemicals will be porformed.

  • The northeastern shore of the Anmyondo consists mainly of tuff, basalt, andesite and dacite. The K-Ar ages of the two mugearites are $89.4{\pm}2.4$ Ma and $91.9{\pm}2.3$ Ma which correspond to the middle Cretaceous age. Petrochemical reviews on the volanic rocks of the Cretaceous, Tertiary and Quaternary ages in the Korean Peninsula show that marked differences exist in chemical compositions according to the age of eruption.
