  • Weight-bearing building materials are substantially weakened under high temperatures, and this is evident through the collapse of structures once engulfed by fire. Currently, there is no scientific or technological process of evaluating the real-time structural stability of a building whcih is engulfed by flame. There are many building design specifications which aim to reduce the risk of fire, but little consideration given to fire officer safety while operating in a dangerous building. This paper aims to provide direction within building policy in order to ensure the safe evacuation of fire-fighters in case of an impending building collapse. This paper suggests evaluation criteria for buildings which are damaged due to fire, autilizing current information on fire-resistant building design and a fire-resistant capacity.

  • 화재보험은 보험기간 내 보험목적에 화재가 발생할 경우 화재로 인해 손상된 직접 손해와 화재 진화과정에서 발생하는 소방 손해를 보상한다. 화재보험은 타 보험에 비해 비교적 보상범위가 넓지만, 그렇다고 보험금 사취목적의 방화를 보상하지는 않는다.

Evaluation of Fire-induced Damage to Structural Members in Tunnels (화재에 의한 터널구조물 시공재료의 손상 평가)

  • In this study, a series of fire tests was carried out to evaluate fire-induced damage to structural members in tunnels. From the tests, the loss amount of concrete materials under the RWS scenario was slightly bigger than under the RABT fire scenario. Especially under the RWS fire scenario where the maximum temperature is over $1,200^{\circ}C$, the loss of concrete materials was mainly induced by melting. Generally, the loss of materials in reinforced concrete was slightly smaller than that in unreinforced concrete. Depending upon an applied fire scenario, fire-induced damage to shotcrete was quite different. From the realtime investigation of a specimen surface by a digital camcorder, it was proved that the material loss under the RABT fire scenario was mainly induced by spalling. However, it was also revealed that although fire-induced damage in the initial heating stage under the RWS was so close to that under the RABT, the material loss under the RWS at the later stage after 50 minutes elapsed since fire initiation was induced not by spalling but by melting.

  • Fire intensity in tunnel fire is very severe, which might cause the spalling on the surface of shotcrete and concrete lining exposed to the heat as well as rapidly-reducing stress due to heat transfer by steel material such as anchor embedded in tunnel which plays the critical role in securing the stability of the tunnel. In this study, a fire test to identity the heat intensity(Modifired Hydrocarbon Curve) and the fire resistance of steel materials embedded as parameters, was carried out. And the evaluation to identify the thermal damage, which was based on critical temperature range for thermal damage of steel materials determined according to the road tunnel fire resistance standard established by ITA(International Tunneling Association).

  • 본 연구에서는 정확한 화재원인 분석 및 사기범죄 여부 확인을 위하여 극초단파를 직접 휴대전화에 조사하고, 이때 발생되는 휴대전화의 손상형태를 분석하였다. 극초단파 조사를 위하여 전자레인지를 이용하였으며, 전자레인지의 마그네트론에서 발생되는 2.45 GHz의 극초단파가 휴대전화에 인가될 때 휴대전화의 손상형태를 분석하였다. 실험 결과, 휴대전화에 극초단파를 조사하는 경우, 조사 시간이 길어짐에 따라 심하게 손상되는 경향을 나타내었으며, 특히, 폴더의 힌지 부분 및 인테나 부분과 같이 금속이 설치되는 부분이 심하게 열변형되는 결과를 나타내었다. 휴대전화의 배터리 부분은 외함이 열변형되는 것 이외에 배터리의 손상이나 폭발 등은 발생되지 않는 것으로 평가되었다.

An Experimental Study on Thermal Damage under Tunnel Fire Scenario to Concrete PC Pannel Lining (터널 화재시나리오에 따른 콘크리트 PC패널라이닝의 열적손상에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In tunnel, though the frequency of fire occurrence is relatively lower than other structures, the characteristics of sealed space tends to cause the temperature to rapidly rise to more than $1000^{\circ}C$ within 5 minutes after fire, which might eventually lead to a large fire that usually results in a loss of lives and the damage to the properties, not to mention a huge cost necessary for repair and maintenance after fire. Referring to foreign tunnel fire scenarios, it clarified the heat transfer characteristics of concrete PC panel lining depending on fire intensity (ISO, MHC, RWS), and to identify the range of thermal damage, the evaluation was carried out using ITA standard. As a result, 39mm under ISO fire condition, 50mm under MHC and 100mm under RWS were measured. And when it comes to spalling, 30mm was measured under RWS. When PC panel was designed to serve the support, a fire resistance to the minimum depth of 100mm of the concrete that might be damaged under the fire shall be maintained, and in case of a non-support structure, PC lining shall have at least 100mm thickness.

  • Fires in tunnels are characterized by higher temperature rise and higher maximum temperatures compared to ground fires. For this reason, countries such as the Netherlands and Germany have developed separate temperature-time curves for use in tunnel fires. Fires in tunnels cause damage to the tunnel lining, such as loss of section and deterioration of the material properties. This study reviewed the design concept of fire stability of structures, section loss due to spalling, changes in physicochemical and mechanical properties of tunnel lining materials, fireproofing materials for structure safety, and fire damage prediction models. In order to secure the stability of a structure against fire, it is necessary to identify the type of structure and the possible fire load at the design stage, identify the expected section loss and damage range, and prepare for such damage through fireproofing materials. In this study, we have summarized the matters that can be referred to in performing such a series of tasks and presented our opinions on them.

  • 본 논문에서는 원자력발전소의 스위치기어실 화재로 인한 케이블 손상시간과 케이블 온도를 평가하기 위해 화재모델링 입력모수 불확실성 분석을 수행하였다. 화재모델링은 FDS 5.5를 사용하였으며 입력모수 샘플링은 Wilks 식에 따라 93회를 수행하였다. 단순히 입력모수 평균 값을 사용한 화재모델링 분석결과는 화재모델링 불확실성 분석결과보다, 케이블 손상시간은 최대 1.6배 늦게, 케이블 온도는 최대 0.45배 낮게 평가될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.
