Controlled low strength material(CLSM) is produced by mixing portland cement, fine aggregates, water and chemical admixtures. Sand is the most commonly used as the fine aggregates in the conventional CLSM. It is getting more and more difficult to obtain sand in Korea so it is required that the alternative materials be developed as the replacement of sand. Since the engineering characteristics of coal ash are similar to the sand, it becomes necessary to examine the application of the coal ash as the alternative material for CLSM and as the environment-friendly material. When the results meet the optimum pH level that plants can live, it can be expanded the scale of application of the study on the plant as the important field. This study was subjected to present the method to reduce the pH range of CLSM to a suitable condition that plants can survive. To verify this method, the care of neutralization was conducted by immersing the specimen to Ammonium monohydrogen phosphate. Before curing and neutralization, the maximum pH of developmental CLSM is approximately 11. However, the pH value of developmental CLSM has under 9.5 after peaceful curing and neutralization management.
In this study, contents of limestone in cement manufactured by six domestic plants for Portland cement were investigated in terms of the strength and its relation to the $CO_2$ emission due to limestone material and its physical properties in cement manufacturing process. the relationship among CaO content, compressive strength, and $CO_2$ emission was surveyed for the limestone quantity in decomposition reaction and the loss of limestone quantity contained in each cement. As a result of $CO_2$ emission calculation for unit cement, it was found that the $CO_2$ emission due to decomposition of limestone was occupied 67% of total emission quantity. Furthermore, there was a difference in $CO_2$ emission quantity depending on the cement manufacturing process management. Also, it was shown that fossil fuel usage and material loss had a major influence as main factors of $CO_2$ emission. An increase in the CaO content in cement resulted in an increase in the compressive strength. On the contrary, CaO content and compressive strength were reduced with the growth of loss quantity of limestone. It was verified that the material and process management were more effective than CaO yield in cement manufacturing for $CO_2$ emission with the growth of $CO_2$ emission quantity. Pozzolanic materials such as PFA and GGBS in concrete mix affected the price, $CO_2$ emission and development of strength of concrete.

In a range of forms, such as latex, water-soluble polymer, liquid resin, and monomer, polymer dispersions have been widely used in the construction industry as cement modifiers because of their excellent properties, such as acid-resistance, water-proofness, and good ductility in mortar and concrete. Polymer cement slurry (polymer-modified slurry) is made of cement and polymer dispersions, with a high polymer-cement ratio of 50% or more. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the water permeability and drying shrinkage of polymer cement mortar (polymer-modified mortar) and cement concrete coated by polymer cement slurry. The polymer cement mortar and cement concrete are prepared with various polymer types, polymer-cement ratios and curing methods, and are tested for water permeability, drying shrinkage and strength. The test results showed thatthe weight of permeable water of polymer cement mortar decreases with an increase in the polymer-cement ratio, reaching a minimum at the polymer-cement ratio of 20%. In particular, the weight of permeable water of St/BA-modified mortar with a polymer-cement ratio of 20% coated with St/BA-modified slurry is about 1/55 that of unmodified mortar. The EVA- and St/BA-modified slurries coated on cement concrete have about 4 or 5 times higher drying shrinkage compared to cement concrete. The strength of polymer cement mortars tends to increase with a higher polymer-cement ratio, and is considerably higher than that of unmodified mortar. It is thus concluded that polymer cement mortars coated by polymer cement slurry are effective for industrial application, and have superior properties such as waterproofness and strengths, compared with conventional cement mortar.
This paper discusses a series of experiments including material improvement in order to ensure quality of grouting for the post-tensioned structure. In presstressed concrete, grouting refers to the construction procedure of filling empty space of duct enclosing the prestress tendons using cementitious material, To date, adequate quality control of the grouting has not been established in Korea because the relationship between the grouting and durability of post-tensioned structure is not well-recognized. The Korean standard does not consider the important material characteristic, wick effect, which is caused by tendons in the ducts, and furthermore current standard testing method does not quantify reasonable material segregation. As a result, the grout material, which satisfies the current material standards, may well exhibit excessive bleeding of water or shrinkage during construction. In this study, international codes and standards related to grouting were surveyed. The mix proportions of the constituents and novel admixtures were suggested to meet equivalently with these standards. Performance of this enhanced grout was compared with common domestic grouts using the international standard testing method. A series of mock-up specimens considering geometry of PC beam was constructed and grout flow pattern was observed as the grout was injected. It was observed that the grouting performance was highly influenced by material properties and filling characteristic can be varied depending on geometry of ducts.

The aim of the research is providing a fundamental idea of reducing viscosity of cement based materials by replacing powder based material. With developing concrete technology, high performance concrete with high solid volume fraction has been used widely. Under the conditions of the high solid volume fraction due to the low w/c and replacement of SCMs, decreased fluidity is one of the critical problem, and thus plasticizer has been used to improve fluidity of the mixture. However, in rheological aspect, the fluidity of cement based materials can be defined with yield stress and viscosity, and using plasticizer only decreases yield stress without least controlling on viscosity. Therefore, based on the idea of Krieger-Dougherty model, a feasibility of wasted limestone powder from cement manufacturing process was used to decrease the viscosity of the mixture by replacing cement powder. According to a series of experiment, by replacing wasted limestone powder solely, there was a possibility of reducing viscosity was observed. Thus, in this research scope, it is considered to contribute on providing a fundamental idea of reducing viscosity with powder replacement and it is expected to contribute on further research using various conditions of replacing powders for reducing viscosity of cementitious materials.

Polypropylene (PP)/bamboo fiber (BF) composites were fabricated by twin screw extruder in order to investigate effects of the compatibilizer on physical properties of PP/BF composites. The content of BF changed from 10 to 25 wt% and that of the compatibilizer was fixed at 3 wt%. Maleic anhydride grafted PP (PP-g-MAH) was used to increase the compatibility between PP and BF as a compatibilizer. Chemical structures of the composites were confirmed by the existence of carbonyl group (C=O) stretching peak at $1,700cm^{-1}$ in FT-IR spectrum. Considering the degradation and mechanical properties, the optimum extrusion conditions were selected to be $210^{\circ}C$ and 100 rpm, respectively. There was no distinct changes in melting temperature of the composites, but the crystallization temperature increased by $10-20^{\circ}C$ owing to the heterogeneous nuclei of BF. It was checked that the optimum BF content was in the range of 15-20 wt% from the results of tensile and flexural properties of the composites. The effect of the compatibilizer on mechanical properties was confirmed by SEM images of fractured surface and contact angles.

Fluosilicic acid(H2SiF6) is recovered as an aqueous solution which absorbs $SiF_4$ produced from the manufacturing of industrial-graded H3PO4 or HF. Generally, fluosilicates are the salts produced by the reaction of H2SiF6 and metal salts. Addition of fluosilicates to cement endows odd properties through unique chemical reaction with the fresh and hardened cement. This study was performed to know mechanical properties and watertightness using fluosilicates based composite made from fluosilicates and other compounds. Mix proportions for experiments were modulated at 0.45 of water to cement ratio and $0.0-2.0\%$ of adding ratio of fluosilicates based composite. Evaluation for mechanical properties of concrete was conducted to know fresh state of concrete, hardening state of concrete, and watertightness. Evaluation for watertightness of concrete was carried out permeability, absorption test and porosity analysis. In addition. Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray(EDX) used for investigating micro-structure and atomic component distributed in hardened concrete. It is ascertained that characteristics of mechanical properties and watertightness was more improved than non-added because of packing role of fluosilicates based composite and pozzolanic reaction of soluble $SiO_2$. Also, concrete added fluosilicates based composite had a tendency to delay setting time and only $0.5\%$ addition of fluosilicates based composite delayed 150 minutes compared with non-added.

Repair methods of aging concrete pavement are generally used composite structure pavements, such a composite structure is subjected to a large impact on the mechanical behavior and ensure long-term commonality integrated under vehicle loads, environmental loads of the public in accordance with the bond strength between old and new concrete. A common of bonded concrete overlays that are currently available is Interface arrangements using a variety of equipment to ensure the excellent bond strength between old and new concrete than standard concrete, mixed with a material such as a polymer in order to improve the adhesion with the material itself. However, these method of constructions are being applied, depending on the developer site presents no special specifications apply when a specific application criteria objectively, this is due to the situation of each individual method, which is based on the difficulty in quality control of the site manager. In this study by performing a field test for polymer content via the variables that contribute most significantly to ensure bond strength and the field element core of the interface processing method and materials to ensure bond strength between the old and the new concrete, it was to derive the construction site construction method that can improve the performance of the bond strength through a review of the construction around the correlations and the bond strength according to the effective performance analysis of the conventional surface treatment process and variation of polymer volume fraction.
This study analyzed a comprehensive database including 6331 ready-mixed concrete plant mixtures to quantitatively assess the environmental impact of concrete under mixture proportions variable according to the domestic region and season. The environmental impact indicator includes global warming, photochemical oxidant creation, abiotic resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication and human toxicity, which are determined from categorization, characterization, normalization and weighting process based on Korea lifecycle inventories. The determined environmental impact indicator was also normalized by concrete compressive strength ($f_{ck}$), which is defined as impact index, to calculate the environmental impact per unit strength of 1 MPa. The most common compressive strength of concrete used in the country is estimated to be 24 MPa and 27 MPa. For $f_{ct}$ of 24 MPa, the lowest environmental impact indicator is observed in Ulsan, whereas the highest region is Gwangju and Daegu. This difference according to domestic region is primarily resulted from by the replacement of different supplementary cementitious materials. Furthermore, the impact index of concrete with $f_{ck}$ of 24 MPa is higher by approximately 5% at wintertime than at summertime and standard season. The impact index gradually decreases with the increase of $f_{ck}$ up to 35 MPa, beyond which it remains constant.
Today the application of antiwashout underwater concrete to the construction sites is increasing steadily, while its reliability is in issue. Particularly, antiwashout underwater concrete is known to have very weak durability on frost attack, and hence Japan society of civil engineers(JSCE) regulated that not to use of antiwashout underwater concrete where the freezing and thawing is suspected. This study aims the improvement of the freezing and thawing resistance for antiwashout underwater concrete. From the results of fundamental test, FA20 and SG50 showed good performance in fluidity and long term compressive strength than control concrete. Meanwhile, MK10 marked the highest compressive strength through the whole curing age but a defect on fluidity was discovered. The results from the repeated freezing and thawing test show that the large volumes of air entrapped by cellulose based antiwashout underwater admixture gave bad effects to frost durability and hence not much benefits were confirmed from the use of mineral admixtures. However there were some increasing effects on frost durability of MK10 and SG50 by securing $6{\pm}0.5\%$ of entraining air. In the meantime, there was a increasing tendency of frost durability by increasing blame's fineness of ground granulated blast furnace slag.
