Correlations of drop size and velocity in a spray from the disintegration of liquid jet and liquid film from an internal mixing twin-fluid atomizer, were determined by phase Doppler method. The distribution pattern of Sauter mean diameter(SMD) in a spray was changed by a behavior of liquid flow. As smaller droplets became faster and slower easily by the surrounding conditions, the correlation between drop size and mean velocity was found to be varied as next 3 steps; firstly smaller droplets have a higher mean velocity at the area near atomizer, droplets have almost the same mean velocity and finally larger droplets have a higher mean velocity at the area far from an atomizer.

Experiments have been performed to find out the effect of the mixing port length of Y-jet atomizers on the spray performance, using air and water as the test fluids. Water and air flow rates and drop sizes were measured at each injection pressure condition for different mixing port length. The air flow rate was almost unaffected by the change of the mixing port length. However, the water flow rate was relatively susceptible to the change of the mixing port length. The mixing point pressure was very much influenced by the mixing port length. Variations of spatial distribution of Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD, $D_{32}$) and the cross-section-averaged SMD ($D_{32,m}$) with different mixing port length and air/water mass flow rate ratio were examined. Generally, when the mixing port length was reduced, the mean drop size decreased and became spatially even.

The interaction between airflow and liquid phase LfG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) sprays was investigated in a steady flow system embodied in a wind tunnel to simulate the variety of flow inside intake port of LPG engines with liquid injection system. The spray developments in flowing fields with the mean velocities of 5.4, 21.5 and 42.4m/s were identified by spray visualization techniques such as Mie scattering and shadowgraph. The microscopic visualization using a telescopic lens system was performed to investigate the shape and size of liquid droplets in the spray. PDA measurement was used to get 1-dimensional velocity and diameter of liquid droplets. The fast co-flows make the spray field be compact and be lead upward to the injection direction. SMD of the spray was smaller at the fast flowing field. Spray width got bigger and SMD of the spray was smaller with higher injection pressure.

I investigated experomentally the spray characteristics to the operating conditions and the shapes of internal mixing twin fluid atomizer. The wide variations of air per liquid ratio are conducted to predit the influences of the Sauter mean diameter(SMD), spray angle, distribution of drop size, the flowing condition of gas and length, flowing, area of gas and liquid, and diameter, number and place of the orifice. In this experiment, air per liquid raio, mixing chamber length per diameter, orifice diameter, and the flowing area ratio of gas and fluid influences greatly on SMD, spray angle, distribution of drop size and intermittent fluctuation region.
Oil-in-water(o/w) nanoemulsions were prepared in the system of water/Span 80-Tween 80/long-chain paraffin oil via PIC method. With the increase of preparation temperature from 30 oC to 80 oC, the diameter of emulsion droplets decreased from 150 nm to 40 nm. By varying the HLB of mixed surfactants, we found that there was an optimum HLB around 13.0~14.0 corresponding to the minimum droplet size. The size of emulsion droplets increased upon increasing the ratio of oil/emulsifying agent. At $f{\leq}0.15$, the size of nanoemulsions could be kept constant more than 2 months. The increase in preparation temperature makes it possible for producing monodisperse nanoemulsions. Once the nanoemulsion is produced, the stability against Ostwald ripening is outstanding due to the extremely low solubility of the liquid paraffin oil in the continuous phase.

In the rocket preburner, oxidizer-rich combustion with liquid oxygen and kerosene is very challenging work. The key factor of stable flame is good mixing and that is controlled by the injector performance. We have studied spray characteristics of the oxidizer-rich rocket preburner injector in high pressure environments. The injector is composed of fuel orifices, oxidizer orifices and cooling skirt with liquid oxygen. By using this apparatus, we have taken photographs and measured Sauter mean diameter with changing ambient pressure from 0 to 30 kgf/cm2[g]. Droplet diameter is measured by the image processing technique. From the test results, we could understand spray characteristics of the oxidizer-rich preburner injector and this result could be applied to the development of the oxidizer rich preburner system.

Spray characteristics of liquid jets in crossflow, which can be observed in the liquid jet injection system of a gas turbine or ramjet engine, were experimentally investigated. By measuring liquid jet penetration in the case of single orifice and double orifice injectors, the experimental formula for jet penetration was modified to consider penetration distances greater than that considered in a previous study. The changes in spray characteristics resulting from changes in the liquid jet and crossflow pressure, including SMD and jet disintegration, were carefully studied. Specifically, the jet penetration was measured for different injector shapes, and in the case of a double orifice injector, the penetration of the rear orifice jet was found to be greater by approximately 20% ($L_h$ = 4 mm) compared to that in the case of a single orifice injector because of the influence of the front orifice.

In a coaxial porous injector, a gas propellant is injected through the porous cylinder surface to the liquid jet which is encircled by a porous cylinder. In this study, to observe the differences in disintegration mechanisms between a shear coaxial injector and a coaxial porous injector, cold-flow tests and 2-D axisymmetric numerical analysis have been carried out. The shadowgraph images and Sauter mean diameters were compared in similar experimental conditions, and the effects of velocity distributions at the inner injector region on the disintegration of liquid jet were investigated through the numerical calculations. As a result, in high air mass flow rate condition, the disintegration performance of coaxial porous injector is better than shear coaxial injector, in spite of a lower velocity at the inner injector region.

This study analyzed for hydrodynamic dispersion characteristics of multi-soil layer (Silt and clay, Find sand, Coarse sand), data of a field tracer test on the multi-soil layer and data of laboratory column experiments on the samples on each soil layers. Through the analysis of permeability and flow, MS (Silt and clay) and FS (Fine sand), which were low effective porosity, were higher average linear velocity while CS (Coarse sand), which was high effective porosity, was higher hydraulic conductivity. Hydraulic conductivity function based on average soil particle diameter was assumed Y=$3.49{\times}10^{-8}e^{15320x}$ and coefficient of determination was 0.90. Average linear velocity function based on average soil particle diameter was assumed Y=$1.88{\times}10^{-7}e^{11459x}$ and coefficient of determination was 0.81. Longitudinal dispersivity function based on average soil particle diameter was Y = 0.00256$e^{5971x}$ and coefficient of determination was 0.98. According to the linear regression analysis of average linear velocity and longitudinal dispersivity, assumed function was Y = 21.7527x + 0.0063, and coefficient of determination was 0.9979. The ratio of field scale/laboratory scale was 54.09, it exhibited scale-dependent effect of hydrodynamic dispersion. Field longitudinal dispersivity (1.39m) was 7.47 times as higher than longitudinal dispersivity estimated by the methods of Xu and Eckstein (1995). Hydrodynamic dispersion on CS layer was occurred mainly by diffusion flow in the test aquifer.
