This study was performed to examine engineering properties for planting of porous concrete block containing rice straw ash. Tests for void ratio, compressive and flexural strength, pH by neutralization treatment time and curing method were peformed. As results, the void ratio tends to decrease with increasing rice straw ash content. But, the compressive and flexural strength tends to increase with Increasing rice straw ash content. When the neutralization was treated at the curing age 6 days, the greatest strength was showed. The pH of porous concrete without neutralization treatment in dry and water curing are shown in 10.32 ${\~}$ 10.55 and 9.41${\~}$9.59, respectively. The pH of porous concrete by neutralization treatment in dry and water curing were shown in 9.74${\~}$10.10 and 8.13${\~}$9.32, respectively. The porous concrete block size was 23 ${\times}$ 23 ${\times}$ 4 cm, and species of planting were Tall fescue, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Lespedeza cuneata. At the 6 months after seeding, germination ratio and grown-up length of Tall fescue, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Lespedeza cuneata were shown in 90, 60, $50\%$, and 40${\~}$50, 90${\~}$110, 65${\~}$75 cm, respectively. These porous concrete block containing rice straw ash could be used for planting.

It has been continuously noted that many sewage treatment concrete structures have deteriorated due to sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. There have been many reports on approaches to protecting concrete from this bacteria corrosion. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the inhibition of growth of a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium by a antifungal agent such as $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$, and the characteristics of polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent. First, we developed antifungal agents using metal nickel and $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$ to inhibit the growth of thiobacillus novellus, which is the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in concrete. Then, ordinary cement mortar and polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent with various polymer-cement ratios, and antifungal agent content were prepared, and were tested for the antifungal adding effect, compressive and flexural strengths, expansion and leaching of nickel ion. From the test results, it was confirmed that the adding of an antifungal agent has an inhibition effect on the growth of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria at antifungal agent contents of 20 mM or more. In addition, the strengths and expansion of polymer cement mortars are not significantly changed by the addition of an antifungal agent. Therefore, the nickel-type antifungal agent developed in this study can be used to improve the durability of reinforced concrete hume pipe in the construction industry.
Competitive ability, allelopathy, made the common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior ) one of the most dangerous weeds in Korea. The aim of this research was to evaluate the role of common ragweed as test species under laboratory bioassay and glasshouse conditions. Inhibition effect of the leaf extract was higher than that of stem and root parts extracts on germination and seedling growth of weeds. The 5% concentration of leaf extract of common ragweed inhibited the germination rate of Echinochloa crus-galli, Digitaria sanguinalis and Cyperus microiria by 68.3, 74.6 and 87.3%, respectively, as compared to the control. Generally, increasing incorporation concentration inhibited seedling growth of weeds. Incorporation of 5% common ragweed residue significantly reduced the plant length of E. crus-galli, D. sanguinalis and C. microiria by 48, 63 and 68%, respectively, as compared to the control. Also, the values of dry weight were 72, 78 and 71%, respectively. Contrarily, the emergence rate of soybean and corn was not affected by the incorporation of 5% concentration of common ragweed residue. However, the dry weight was inhibited by 37 and 28%, respectively. These results suggest that common ragweed had the ability to control some weed species using toxic compounds like natural herbicide.
Latex modified concrete(LMC) became to be applied as a new material for newly constructed bridge deck overlays in Korea due to its excellent bond strength, flexural strength and impermeability against water and chloride. However, it could not be adopted at repair job site because of its long curing time required. Thus, a research on latex modified concrete with rapid-setting cement(RSLMC) is necessary if it could develope the sufficient strength for early opening to traffic. This study focused on the durability of latex modified concrete with rapid-setting cement mainly on water permeable resistance and freeze-thaw resistance. The main experimental variables were latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) and antifoamer contents (0, 1.6, 3.2, 4.8 and 6.4%). Test results show that the permeability of RSLMC is very low indicating below 100 coulombs at 15% of latex contents at all antifoamer contents. The freeze-thaw resistance of RSLMC maintains above 90% of relative dynamic modulus at 3.2% of antifoamer content until 300 freezing-thawing cycles.
For this study, the semi-adiabatic temperature rising test is accomplished by using ternary system cement (OPC, BFS, FA) reducing temperature crack. Two tests are conducted; one is for the paste test, and the other is for the concrete test. As the results of paste tests, using fly ash is better to reduce hydration temperature than doing blast furnace slag. In the case of the paste mixed ternary system cement, the more fly ash is mixed and the less blast furnace slag is used, the lower the temperature is. The less the mixture ratio of blast furnace slag is and the more the mixture ratio of fly ash is, the later the temperature rising velocity and descending velocity are. Besides, the temperature is lower if water/binder ratio is high. The use of ternary system cement has the retardation effect of temperature rising because the time to reach the maximum temperature is in the order of OPC100, binary system cement, and ternary system cement. From the test, the maximum temperature of concrete used ternary system cement is $8{\sim}11^{\circ}C$ lower than that of concrete used OPC100. Moreover, temperatures rising velocity and descending velocity of ternary system cement range $47{\sim}51%$ and $37{\sim}42%$ compared with OPC100. The specimen of concrete shows remarkable low internal temperature and slow temperature rising velocity and descending velocity compared with the specimen of paste because it is that temperature loss of concrete is much more than paste specimen according to aggregates.

Steel fibers are recently well recognized for good composite/strengthening materials because of their ductile behavior and good performance on crack control and shear behavior compared to concrete materials. Especially, the great improvement in shear strength by steel fibers led researchers to be involved in many experimental studies. However, our understanding on the complex shear behavior of the steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) members are still very limited, and the fundamental test data are also not enough. In this study, therefore, 4 SFRC specimens were fabricated and tested, from which the effectiveness of steel fibers as shear reinforcement were evaluated. The test results shows that the shear strength of SFRC members increases as the amount of steel fibers increases.
Dehydrogenation of methanol to produce formaldehyde was carried out over various silica-alumina catalysts doped with alkali metals in a continuous flow system. The reaction was rather dependent on Lewis acid than Br${\ddot{o}}$nsted acid suggesting that dehydrogenation of methanol was an electronic reaction. The Br${\ddot{o}}$nsted acid sites on silica-alumina were neutralized by doping with alkali metals, and the neutralization effect of Br${\ddot{o}}$nsted acid was dependent on the electron-donating capacity of the dopant metals. Activation energy for dehydrogenation of methanol decreased when Br${\ddot{o}}$nsted acid was neutralized by doping with K.
The permeable polymer-modified concrete has a lot of internal voids, which has more excellent performance in permeability and durability than asphalt and cement concrete. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to ascertain the strength properties of water-permeable polymer concretes with SBR latex and redispersible polymer powder. The water-permeable polymer concretes using SBR latex and redispersible polymer powder with water-binder ratio of 29 %, polymer-cement ratios of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 % are prepared, and tested for compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, water permeablility. From the test results, improvements in the strength properties of the water-permeable polymer concretes due to the addition of the SBR latex and redispersible polymer powder are discussed.

The fly ash has been widely used in the latest to complement the performance and economical efficiency of the concrete which uses only a normal portland cement, the pulp ash gained through the incineration of paper sludge is possible to be used as the material of concrete because it contains the properties similar to the previous fly ash in ingredients and physical characteristics. Therefore, this research has tested physical characteristics by replacing 20% of fly ash used with the paper ash to solve the problem which lowers the early strength caused when the fly ash was used. As a result, it showed that the fluidity becomes lower and the compressive strength becomes increased by using paper ash. In addition, after mixing the paper ash with the fly ash, it showed that time and heating amount of the 2nd peak of the minor heat of hydration affecting the revelation of strength was equivalent to the combination for normal portland cement, and also indicated that the compressive strength for 3 days is superior to the combination of the fly ash. Therefore, if the paper ash having a regular fineness is used, it was effective in improving the early strength of concrete used the fly ash.

There have been numerous studies to develop eco-friendly concrete. The attempt to reduce the amount of cement used is suggested as one of the solutions for eco-friendly concrete. To decrease the usage of cement, the pozzolan reaction materials are used as a mineral admixture. Hwang-toh, which is broadly deposited in Korea is a well known environment friendly material and the activated hwang-toh, which has the property of pozzolan reaction, is alternatively used as a mineral admixture of concrete. The purpose of this study is to investigate the drying shrinkage of hwang-toh concrete mixed with recycled PET fiber. Therefore, drying shrinkage experiments are performed to analyze mechanical property of hwang-toh concrete mixed with recycled PET fiber. Test results showed that the drying shrinkage is controlled by hwang-toh admixture and PET fiber.
